Default Covering coasters question

I tried making the coaster gift box today. From all the great ones uploaded to the gallery - I didn't see anyone else with this problem. I covered the coaster w/ mod podge and then pattern paper. But the coasters all warped slightly and dried not flat. So then of course I had a problem with the bottom coaster fitting. What did I do wrong? Too much glue? I didn't think I put that much on.. I used medium weight coasters....Thanks for any tips!

I'm guessing too much glue...I haven't had this happen, but I used Scotch Scrapbooker's glue (similar to Mono Multi). Maybe someone else has other suggestions??

I didn't have this problem either - but it had to be the glue. I used the snail glue and it worked great.

I started out using MP, but they did warp, and did NOT flatten out over time. So now, I use my ATG gun and have NOT had a problem since. I also put the bottome coaster on the inside of the 4 outter coasters and use my hot glue gun for that part of it.

I too flattened mine out with books and used a hot glue gun - then I decided on the next bunch to punch holes in the bottom piece and lace it to the side pieces - worked great

I also had my coasters warp a little and my paper rippled. I also used mp. I think I will try something different. I am hosting a card exchange party next month and we are going to make the boxes or picture frames and want to get it mastered before I have to show eveyone else how to make them. Thanks for the info.

Check this thread for more responses: Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I had the same problem with the coasters warping after using Mod Podge. Next time I'll try my Xyron or ATG gun.

Default Coaster thickness

Has everyone used the heavyweight (3/16) coasters? I'm wondering if I can use the medium (1/16) weight and still have them be sturdy enough.

I just use double sticky tape to adhere the paper to the box. It works great and no messes. So far the paper has not come off. Just a suggestion.

I forgot to mention that I used the Xyron on one of the coasters and w/in 1 day it had peeled off. So far my ATG has been the best adhesive for me!

I had the same trouble also....so now I'm running my paper thru my Xyron machine and then putting it on....works great no more warping chipboard coasters. then when I put on the bottom I use E6000 and let air dry overnite and doesn't smell.

Default Easy fix

My DH (who is a paper salesman) told me to just spray the back of the coasters slightly with water to even out the moisture from the MP. Worked great! When they dry they'll flatten right out.

Have any of you tried the spray on adhesive. I have done that and they held very well. I don't like the smell but I can never seem to wait for modge podge to dry - and that messes things up. I spray on the coaster and stick the paper to that (used it on CDs to for an album and it worked just fine). Stuck on very well. Mary
