Question Coluzzle help

I personally have another cutter system but I have a customer that ordered the coluzzle system on her last order. I went to her house last week to help her out. I tried to help her with cutting out some ovals but was not real successful. The blade on the"knife" included in the set was really wobbly and would almost dissappear into the holder when you pressed on it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the cutter supposed to be that wiggly? I realize that it needs to swivel to easily navigate the curves but how about the compression issue?

Also, is the plastic foamy mat in the kit the cutting mat? My customer was disappointed and I told her I would ask for some help here. Thanks for anything you are able to contribute!!

Yes the foam mat is the cutting mat. I really like mine, but it does take practice to perfect the cutting technique.

Here is a link to their cutting instructions. http://www.coluzzle.com/products/col...ns&cl=coluzzle

Coluzzle Tips

The coluzzle is very easy to use. Some tips to make it easier for the beginner:

1. Lay the pad on a flat surface, with nothing underneath it.

2. Be sure and hold the swivel knife STRAIGHT up and down while moving it through the template opening. You do NOT hold it slanted like a regular knife!Sometimes standing up and looking down as you cut will help you keep the knife straight. Keeping the knife straight is the key to perfect Coluzzle cutting!

3. Do not pick the swivel knife up until you hit the plastic piece, then put it on the other side to continue to make the rest of the cut until you hit the other plastic piece.

4. Be sure and hold your paper in place, so that it does not move and ruin the cut.

5. When you open the templates, they have a plastice covering on them that you must remove. I try to get in the corner and peel it off from there. It is on both sides of the template.

6. Make sure your blade on your swivel knife is screwed in tightly. If it is not, you will be nicking your template like crazy.

This was my biggest downfall, not realizing that the plastic covering was on both sides - if your template is not totally clear, you still have more plastic to remove.

Now that I've discovered this, I *LOVE* my Coluzzle... Sadly, it collected dust for a few years ahead of this!

Another tip...

If you color each channel, one color for each size, you won't make the mistake of cutting with the wrong size and ruining you photo or mat.

just a quick note abt this... you might double check and make sure the blade holder is screwed all the way shut - that might be why you are having issues with it. it IS pretty wiggly but it shouldn't disappear into itself. HTH!
