Default Clip Boards

Ok, it appears as though most of you that do the altered clip boards use something like Mod Podge on them...yes? How do you get your paper to stay flat while it dries so that you don' t have air bubbles underneath?

Thanks,
Toni

if you use modge pogde which I don't.. you can poke holes in tiny bubbles with a pin and smooth them out or use your bone folder ( or a ruler perhaps)to smooth as you go.
You can modge podge the clipboard itself then the paper as well to protect it. I typically paint with basic acrylics or Making Memories paint then adhere paper where I want to with white school glue, it's cheap and it works :}
Good luck :}

I use photo mounting spray...it dries faster than modge podge with no air bubbles...then I sand the edges and it stays real nice.

I guess I'll just have to try it and see what happens. It looks as though when the mod podge dries, it's flattens itself out. Thanks for the help

A note on white glue -- it's far better to use than you think! I was apprenticed to a master bookbinder a couple years ago. I thought she'd be using some kind of secret, special glue for her incredible books, but she just bought gallons of Elmer's white glue. I was kind of disappointed, actually. It was just so mundane and anticlimactic.

PVA glue is archival, very long lasting, and remains pliable. That's what white glue is. You just want to make sure it's quality, like Elmer's, and not the knock-off of the season. You need the right consistency, and the cheaper ones will often water theirs down.

Paper reacts with water, hence the bubbles and such. Here's what I do. I take a small spritz bottle with water and spritz lightly the back of the image. It will curl and that is good. If you get it too damp. tap with a paper towel. Next I put a thin layer of Mod on the clipboard where the image will be placed. Put the image on the clipboard face up and smooth gently with a small bit of Mod. I've used both the foam brushes and a regular bristle glue brush. If you still get bubbles, I haven't, then do the pin prick trick. HTH

I've become an altering fool lately .... altering boxes, baskets, anything that is flat that I can stick paper to I am doing!! Anyhow, I use the Mod Podge and when I do get those bubbles, I notice they go away when it dries. Just make sure you have a good slathering of the stuff underneath when you put your paper on and work from one edge to the other smoothing it out.

Thanks everyone...I noticed that the bubble DO go away once it's dry...I was anxiously waiting for a clipboard to dry and getting nervous b/c of the bubbles and I ran out to go get more supplies and when I returned....the bubbles were gone What a relief!

Good luck with your clip board,I did some for a craft sale last fall and painted the whole board,front and back and stamped them,I used cream on 3 and used the "Very Vine" SU set stamped front and back then sprayed them with polly,I used matt finish. I also did some in black and used metalic rainbow pads they sold as well,they had to be imbossed then sealed,more work but looked good. Doing front and back was nice if they are used people hold them and others see the back,nice visual.

Can anyone tell me....in the tutorial it mentions using a penny to keep ther clip up while you paint. Where do you place the penny?

Thanks
