Default Clear Embossing a photo

Just had a client ask me about a technique she saw on a HGTV scrapbooking show. A photo was glued to a book, then VersaMarked and clear embossed. Any ideas about how to do this--adhesive used, whether photo needs to be a copy (I'm worried about the ink smearing). If you use a glossy photo, what's the point of clear embossing it, except maybe to embed it on a page. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

I guess a clear embossed photo might look cool if it were embossed with clear UTEE and then cracked with ink smeared n the cracks. Would make it look distressed.

Just a thought...
