Castaway Stamp Pad
I would dearly love to see what others have been able to do with the Castaway stamp pad.
I have been unable to get the "dappled" or "marbled" effect they talk about, but I would be very interested in what any of you have been able to do with it. Can you post some examples? Thanks. |

Hi, Carmellia! Nice to "see" you again! I colored a Christmas tree balloon last night and it is very cute. Wondering what paper you used, it is VERY thick--the Copics barely showed through on the back! Anyway, back to the OP! I've been wondering what that pad is for, myself, so I hope some people do post examples! |
Giraffes
Thank you for the giraffes and for the 3 cat images. I do not have any of those three. I especially love that little free-fallling kitty. I have a parachute stamp that will be great with it.
The paper I used for the balloons is from Tri M in Owatonna. I don't know what particular kind of paper it is other than it is cardstock. I had intended to stamp the kitties on vellum ( which I forgot to do). It is on the vellum that the images can be colored from the back and it then shows through looking very much like a balloon. I'll bet the color barely shows through on that card stock I used. It is very thick The idea I have for the giraffe involves using the Castaway pad on the background cardstock (caramel, I think). If it turns out the way it looks in my head, it will be wonderful. I would like to try some new techniques this year. I am in a rut. Have you ever tried that acetate/tissue technique? I sure like the finished results. |
Thanks for letting me know, interesting! The balloons will still be cute cut out and popped up!
I am not big into different techniques, for some reason. It either doesn't work as easily as it seems, or it looks like it will take too long (and it already takes me forever to make a simple card!). I have not tried the acetate one you mentioned... Hopefully someone can help with the castaway pad question, and then I'd love to see your results! If no one replies, maybe try posting in the Tool & Product Talk forum, that gets a little more traffic... |
ok you two i would like to see pick of these things you have made they sound neat
|
I don't know about Lynn, but I don't have mine done yet. I plan to get started on them this weekend. I will post here when they are done (whether they are fit to post or not. I don't mind showing the lessons I've learned through error.)

I don't have the pad yet, just wondering what it's all about! I did see a blog entry about this http://www.afrogladycreation.com/200...ive.html...she basically made it sound like you just have to keep trying different paper? I just happened upon this blog, it's funny how that works!
Love to see your creations, Carmellia! |
I couldn't get the Castaway pad to work for me and haven't heard from anyone who has! I'd be curious to know the particulars and see a photo if anyone has gotten it to work ;)
|
I have encountered the same problem...I think I wasted my money...also looking for some help:confused:
|
Got one, hate it and have never been able to do anything interesting at all with it. Maybe it's the paper I use? I'd be curious to see what everyone says.
Won't be the first or last time I bought something I "had" to have that collects dust :) |
What is a castaway stamp pad. Also the acetate/tissue. I love to learn about new techniques.

It seems that if a bleached effect is all a person wants, a Castaway pad might please you. It says right on the pad that it does not work on pigment paper (didn't know there was such a thing) or coated papers. I tried a black and a green on which the Castaway had no effect at all, not matter how long I heated it, so they were probably pigment or coated. But don't expect the dappled or marbled effect they talk about. It just doesn't happen.
For a good acetate/tissue description, click on "resources" then click on "techniques". Scroll down. The list is on the left alphabetically. I have't tried it yet, but the description is very good. I have just received my Stazon black pad and intend to try it. Does anyone know how to put a link for a photo in a posting? My first attempt with the Castaway turned out pretty good, although not what I was expecting. But I can't figure out how to post it. I tried to make an techniques album (I've given up trying to make a gallery) and it doesn't show up. I get a "pending" message. |
Please bear with me here. I added my first attempt with Castaway to the Bleach-Bleached out Images Gallery, but I can't find it there. I also tried making a Techniques album of my own. A thumbnail of the card is there but it will not enlarge. My gallery also shows a thumbnail of the one I thought I put on the Bleached out Images gallery. That one will enlarge if you click it. I am pathetic. I can't navigate this site at all.

If you want to add a link or image to this thread, you have to click on "Advanced" edit mode...once there, you will see a paperclip at the top next to the smiley face...click on that little menu arrow and it should allow you attach an image. You will have to Browse your own computer and click on it, and then click on "Upload" image...it can't be TOO large, or it won't work (the max sizes are given--I find that 600x400 pixels is fine). If you have it online somewhere and want to LINK to it, you would instead type in the link, or click on the globe-looking image with the little chain link on it (next to the x'd out chain link). Hope that makes sense?! I'd love to see your image! |
I did get my first attempt with the Castaway pad on my gallery. I used it for the bamboo on the red layering paper and for a chinese symbol to the left of the tiger. I then made a mistake in choosing my glue to attach the whole thing to my card stock. It bled through leaving dark blotches on the red layering paper.

I couldn't see it in your gallery yet, I'll have to try tomorrow...you mentioned the Advanced editor in your PM, you have to click down to the bottom of the Reply screen, and there is a button "Go Advanced," right next to "Post Quick Reply." If you don't see it, you probably haven't clicked far enough down yet...HTH!?
