Default Can you help?

Hi!

I belong to a mothers of multiple births group and every year we decide on a theme and decorate a Christmas tree in our town's welcome center. This year we thought we would decorate the tree with mittens as the "ornaments" and possibly scarfs as the garland. We would then donate the mittens and scarfs to needy children. I am just not sure how we could decorate the mittens so they would look nice on the tree but still could be used later by the children. The decoration does not have to necessarily be on the mitten itself - just something to spruce up the mitten a little while it is on the tree.

Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA!

I've seen lots of these mitten trees done - usually people use such colourful yarn that they look very festive. One thought I have it to use jingle balls - you can get them relatively inexpensively at any craft store and if you are going to use a piece of yarn to "tie" the mitts together, you could just string on a bell or two. The kids receiving the mitts would probably get a kick out of them too!

I've also seen clothes pins decorated like reindeer - these could be used to attach the mitts and scarves to the tree. I think there is a tutorial on the Michaels website to make them.

Good luck - it sounds like a great project. I like to contribute mitts to our tree here too!

My Mother in law has recently knitted some mittens, and decorated them with buttons of various colors. Turned out very cute!!!
