blender pen & aqua brush

ok this may be a silly ??? ;-) with the aqua brush i could see where you would only use a water kind of ink, but with the blender pen what kind of ink do you use...pigment or dye??? thanks for any and all help... thanks:p

I use both with my dye inks. Blender pen is also great to use with chalks because it sets it for you. However, it does seal up the chalk so only use it on a corner!

An aquabrush can be used for more than just water mediums . I have put OMS in it for my colored pencils to use for travel.You can put Blender solution to use with alcohol inks...that is fun and can give "painterly" effects..

I don't really have experience with a blender pen though.I do think they can be used with certain markers..? Isn't that a blender pen that SU! sells to use with their markers?

thanks so much...i thought the stampin up markers were like a water base marker and their ink pads were water base also...yes???

Yes, this is true for SU markers & classic stamp pads.
Blender pens offer more control over the ink and release it similar to a marker although you must "pick up" ink from he cover of an inkpad or as I do a spot scribbled on a clean acrylic block with the desired color. HTH.

Oh yea , aqua painters offer control similar to a wet watercolor brush.

Both perform differently with different base stamp ink types and paper types.

Recently I watched a video produced by Tim Holtz. He was talking about the aqua painters that Ranger makes when he said, don't ever put blending solution in an aqua brush. The plastic will erode over time with exposure to the chemicals and will make a hole in your aqua painter. Ranger makes a refillable marker pen that is safe for blending solution. Inky Antics sells OMS in a dauber bottle that is plastic, so perhaps that is safe for an aqua brush. Just thought I would let you know so you don't have an unpleasant surprise when you are traveling.

I have both blender pens and aqua brushes and use both with my dye-based and pigment inks (and watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons). Which brush I grab depends more on the visual result I want for my project and less about the type of ink I'm going to use. I find that the blender pen is great for coloring in small spaces or when you want precise control with where you are coloring. The aqua pen gives me a more "artistic" look and tends to bleed or diffuse more.

With both pens (and ink types) I try to always pick up the color from my ink pad cover and not directly from the pad itself.

Oh, and I find that I can use the blender pen on more paper types than the aqua pen because the aqua pen is more "wet" than the blender pen. But I love both and am glad I have both.

thank so much i think my main problems was i colorered on the paper with markers and tried to use the pen and aqua painter to blend...what do you think?

You can get blending and spreading when you color with markers first and then use the pen or aqua painter, but (especially if you aren't using watercolor paper) I don't think it will be as smooth of blending. You are probably better off to pick up the color with the pen/aqua pen and color with that and then build up and blend the colors from there.

thanks so much..i did re-try this and yes its easier to pick up the color and then put it on the paper...it did much better...i still need lots of practics....thanks
