Black Magic Card Techique????
Ok when I heard of this I was laughing cause I was thinking hmm this is going to be fun to google! lol and of course I found EVERYTHING BUT what I was looking for! So I ask does anyone know how to do this and what it really is???
Is it just using black cardstock as the base for the card?

First the disclaimer - I admit I've never heard of this technique, but it sounds interesting. Where did you hear about it? That would be the place to start.
Everything in stamping is either about how to get color onto the paper or how to creatively take it off the paper. I've noticed that some techniques go by several different names so it could be soot stamping. Maybe its the Coat of many colors technique or stamping with pastels on black or maybe bleach stamping on black. Did you see a sample - what did it look like?
Keep us posted if you find out more.

I actually got from a blog -KarenBarberStamps and she has 3 examples and all of them are with black cardstock base for the images that are stamped. I guess I should email her to explain huh! lol its just I get shy when it comes to stamping ( can u tell w/ my # of posts! lol) I am in awe of everything I see esp. here wow wow and wow!

OK so I found her bolg and she has some really beautiful cards. Also, if you scroll way down to the middle she tells how she makes the cards. Here's what she said (and my apologies to Karen because I edited her original text)
"a technique called Black Magic, which is where you stamp an image in White Craft Ink and then dry it with your heat tool and then color it with Pure colored pencils. If its a solid stamp . . . you color in the white ink part, but if it's an outline stamp . . . then you color in just the way you would with any outline stamp....and then I highlighted all of these with the white gel pen. . . . but the main thing to remember when you try this technique is this...... use the white gel pen to accent it.
Now I want to try it too. Thanks for asking cuz it made me look.

Ok so I'm very glad that I wasnt the only one who saw her cards and thought hmm how the heck..
I havent gone to her blog yet but am very interested in looking into it when i have the 5 minutes of down time to sit and concentrate~!

so is this the same as the chalkboard technique?? or is it different...I looked at the blog and it seems the same....just want to make sure I'm not missing anything....

Hi Shell,
What is the chalkboard technique? I never heard of this one. Do you stamp white on black like Karen Barber did? Would you mind explaining this technique or where I can find it? Thanks so much

Hey Shell, it sounds similar enough; I think the difference is that she is using the Pure Color Pencils over the white craft ink, and in some cases she is further highlighting with the White Gel Pen.
As an aside, Karen is my sideline, although I haven't seen her in several years. She is truly an amazing, sweet person and uber-talented artist. I don't think the lady has ever made a card that wasn't something short of a masterpiece! I was so happy to see that her blog is posted here, because I didn't even know she had one! __________________

This sounds just like the 'pencil over ink' technique, which was a TLChallenge at one time (#61 - I think)...anyway, if you do a search for that TLC you will get a boatload of samples. HTH.

The name "Black Magic" for this technique came from Stamp & Scrap University. A series of universities inspired by a demo in NY and expanded upon in a huge way by 3 demos in NJ. From there the techniques spread all over the country. The diorama card also gained popularity there, too!!!
BTW - Karen is a fabulous stamper and if you know her & her personality, it's a real treat reading her blog!!
