Default Any Silent Setter users....

I have the Provocraft Silent setter, and I am having a hard time using it. I have tried numerous ways to push down, but the eyelets always look "smooshed" after I set them. Anyone else have this problem, or maybe have a solution for me?
I have tried different brands of eyelets...made no difference. I really hate to give up on this tool, since my DH works 3rd shift, and pounding eyelets could be hazardous to our marriage.
Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and i am not sure I posted this in the right forum, so...my apologies if I messed up! Thanks!

I have the same tool, and love it. Works best with aluminum eyelets, not brass. When you say smooshed, are you referring to the pretty/painted side??? Or, the back flange side, which should split and splay out to grip the paper?

I have not had any issues with the pretty side becoming malformed at all, but I always set on the setting mat that came with the tool, and I stand up and press straight down.

I am referring to the color side....hmm...hard to explain....when you look at the eyelet after setting it, the hole looks smooshed, and not like a real circle.
It is like the back part doesn't want to split apart like it should...it just "smooshes" down.
Maybe I just need some therapy! :p

I think you may be using eyelets that are too hard to set. Like Julie mentioned, the soft aluminum eyelets work the best with this setter. If you're using Making Memories eyelets you may be getting the smooshed effect since it requires you to push so hard. I don't know, just a thought. I love my Silent Setter. I know Doodlebug makes eyelets that are very easy to set using the Silent Setter. Or the eyelets at www.eyeletoutlet.com are good too.

I used the Noxon better setter at a scrapping convention this summer and I was sold... I ordered a set of them, they are supposed to work like a dream on all types of eyelets, brass SU, MM any kind there is.

I am tired of banging and cursin!
