Default TLC896 - Yarn Blocking - 04/25/2022

April Showers...it hasn't rained much this month, but ironically, it's raining tonight as I finish up this post...listen to the rhythm of that falling rain...

Today we are going to use the Yarn Blocking technique to make it rain. You will need a block, some yarn (I used thick baker's twine), and some acrylic paint. A stamp pad will probably work if you want to avoid the paint, but the results will not be as dramatic. Use darker shades of cardstock with paint for the dramatic contrasts.

Here are two older samples from my gallery (using acrylic paint) showing how you can create weather--

Here is one with no paint--only ink pads: Rainy Day Friends Forever by ruby-heartedmom at Splitcoaststampers

This idea came from annsforte3's challenge for Falliday Fest in 2017. She was emphasizing winter weather then. Here is Ann's challenge. Summarizing Ann's directions: This technique is done by wrapping yarn (any type: string, twine, yarn) around a block, maybe your acrylic stamping block, or a wooden block. Wrap the yarn in different directions (or try all the same direction) and secure on the back with tape for ease of stamping. Apply the paint or ink to your yarn and begin to stamp!!

Yarn blocking is also great for fireworks and for printmaking with a regular pattern. Here is a great sample of printmaking.

Finally this is a great technique to share with your kids and grandkids. It works well for all ages if you don't mind the mess with the little ones. Fireworks and more by kids

Default Hi

This was such a fun technique- I added my inks in white, then in a Pigment white and embossed using SIlver EP to make X's for the Alpha challenge.

Stitchin'

Thanks for a fun tutorial!
