Happy June Monday morning to you all. It's a holiday here in Ireland, which I am looking forward to very much.
I was tossing up several old techniques which I wished to revisit - and this month, TLC438, Metal Foil Tape Art, is the one that came up the winner. Ever since Judy first introduced it, it's been a technique I've revisited on a regular (if not frequent) basis. I find it great for masculine cards, it works very well with tool-shaped die-cuts used on the base layer.
If you wish to go 3D, we have a great tutorial from Julia in our Resources section: Faux Metal Figures
Obviously, looking at the amount of foil tape I have on hand, I need to do it more or else stop buying the tape when it comes around on special offer! For my card today, instead of cutting custom die-cuts to suit a predetermined theme, I pulled random bits from one of the dishes on my desk, and then let the finished background inspire the rest of the card. But on the whole, I advise starting with a theme in mind!
I don't think I could do any better than Judy did in synopsising what's involved, so I'm just quoting directly from TLC438:
You will need some metal aluminum tape from the hardware store (self adhesive metallic tape), some plasterboard (drywall) tape or mesh, and some black acrylic paint.
Decide what you want on your project covered with the metal. It could be everything or just a portion. Add other elements to your project for dimension (such as mesh or drywall tape, or die-cuts cut from thin card/chipboard). Cut random-sized pieces of tape and attach to your project. Use different rollers, pens, and other tools to create textures and designs on your metal. Use a ball stylus to push the metal down around elements that are more 3D or prominent. Cover the entire metal project with black acrylic paint. Take a tissue or paper towel and rub the paint off until you get the look you want. Add other textures or colors as you desire.
(Sabrina's note) I used Inca and Craft-T rub-ons, and some Viva Rusty Patina on mine. Being foil, alcohol inks are something else you could use).
Using a stylus (gently) to emphasise the outlines of the die-cuts is something I strongly recommend. A sewing wheel, if you have one, is great for adding lines.
* If you don't have any foil tape, do feel free to cover a piece of thin card with aluminium foil, emboss it with an embossing folder and proceed as above. It won't be as customisable (I have more than once used letters to spell a name), but you can still play along.
Remember to use the keyword TLC850 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card, or in case we are experiencing a gallery bug as has been the case recently.
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Sabrina love the effect this gives. I don’t have the foil tape but will try with aluminium foil.

Here is another card I made for the Teapot Party and fits this challenge. Happy weekend.

This was such fun to try. I want to do it again but add more things to create texture. For the ship, I wanted it to look more like this does. More texture next time! Thanks for the challenge, Sabrina!
