MMTPT649 ~ December 29, 2020 ~ Pandora's Box - The Triumph of Hope
Teapot Tuesday Challenge MMTPT649
Pandora's Box - the Triumph of Hope
Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot or from the challenge theme itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!
It's the last Tuesday of the month so that means it's time for our Teapot Tuesday Tickle Challenge. This month I am your hostess. The team and I would like to thank you so much for your participation throughout the year not just in the tickle but especially in the regular weekly challenges, sending hope, encouragement, comfort and cheer all round the world. CHALLENGE: I had a really good idea for the challenge back in October. And as I had been pretty busy in work and was quite tired, I promptly forgot it. So I offer you this, instead. We grew up on books - reading ourselves and with our mother reading bedtime stories to us. One of the guys in work was laughing when I said I had grown up with the Greek myths and legends - when he came to Ireland and thought he should read James Joyce's Ulysses, he had to buy a students' guide to help him understand all the references to Homer's Odyssey. One of the well-known legends is that of Pandora's Box. My husband thought it was purely along the lines of opening a can of worms - he didn't know the bit about how after all the terrible things came out, then came hope. That's what we all need after the end of this long year - hope that the future will be better and brighter.
I found this short (4 minutes) TED-Ed video if you are not familiar with the legend. Due to ongoing site issues, I may not be able to embed it, but I'll make sure it's a clickable link.
Along similar lines, I have always remembered this picture from Babar the King, by Jean de Brunhoff, when Babar had a nightmare after a bad day in Celesteville, and after all the things like despair and misery, there came hope and peace and so on... I have my dad's childhood copy of the book, so I am sharing a picture. Again due to site issues I can't embed the photo, but it's down with the thumbnail images of the teapot and cookies.
So - it's a pretty abstract theme and I very much hope you'll use the EPEC option below to tie in with the box them - but essentially we are all about positive, uplifting and encouraging cards to give us hope as we say goodbye to 2020 and look forward to better things and being able to share our lives with others again.
<span #000080"="">EPEC(extra points for extra cookies): Although in the Greek original, Pandora's box was actually a large storage jar, most images in popular culture are boxes or chests. My challenge is to make a pop-up box card - tutorial HERE. It's super-easy and folds flat for mailing.
As an option, the Triple Cube Card is also very boxy and I'd consider you'd earned extra cookies if you made one of those. They also fold flat for mailing, and I promise that they are amazingly much easier than they look.
SEND CARDS TO: This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other!
Check out the sign-up thread in the ;">TEApot Tuesday Extras Forum. With several links in this thread, I am not planning to risk losing them or any other formatting by editing this post after the sign-up thread is live, but it is the only thread with a green arrow beside it. If you are participating in the card exchange please go to this thread and follow the instructions. Make sure to sign up by bedtime on Saturday 2nd Jan 2021. Your destination recipient will be PM'd to you.

Send your request to jacqueline via PM or e-mail [email protected]. Include SCS Teaparty Request in the subject line.
Thank you Sabrina for this last MMTPT in 2020, thank you for your patience with all the difficulties to post a challenge we all wish 2021 will be better.
I've done a LOT of these pop up boxes and they usually come together pretty easily . . not so this one . . . I struggled for 2 days - possibly because it's STILL 2020 or possibly because I went into it with a "vision" ( a death knoll for me for sure!) I did finally pull it all together and I say good riddance to the past year!!
On a Happy note this is my one year anniversary with Teapotters!!!
This was a good challenge to end the year Sabrina. And I tried my first popup box card, which turned out to be easy to construct. Adding the inside bits was a little more of a challenge, and photographing it was the hardest part.
