Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot? The destination location? Something of the recipient? Or could it be from the challenge itself? Remember, sending your card to the listed guest of honor is 100% voluntary - it's not a requirement but will be very well appreciated. Just have fun!
This week's challenge hostess is: Jennifrann/Jen
CHALLENGE:
Our recipient this week lives in Rhode Island and enjoys visiting Block Island. I have many friends who love to vacation on Block Island and one of my favorite stories of their trips to Block Island is their hunt for Glass Floats on the island. Each year about 500 Glass Floats (glass orbs about the size of an orange) are hidden on Block Island. Floats are dated, numbered and stamped with the shape of Block Island. Most floats are clear glass except a certain number of special colored orbs. If you find a float you can register it on the website. Isn't that fun? My challenge for you is to be inspired by this tradition maybe a beach, hiking, or treasure hunt theme? Maybe you'll be inspired by some of the photos of the glass floats that people have found. Check out the link below. And I encourage you to click through to see everyone's photos of their glass floats. They get so excited when they find one! Glass Float Project
CARD TYPE/THEME: Encouragement, Hello, Hugs, Thinking of You
MaryJo (Icela52) has requested this week's Tea Party for her nephew, Brian. Brian just turned 50 and has been diagnosed with colon cancer. His prognosis is good with a 90% recovery rate. MaryJo says he loves the ocean and spends summer days on Block Island or in the pool in his yard. He has 6 brothers and sisters who are all extremely close and love each other deeply. His older brother is a Special Olympian, and Brian has been a big supporter of the Special Olympics. He has a black lab (Ella Mae) and a cream colored (Louie).

Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Send your request to Jennifrann via PM or e-mail [email protected]. Include SCS Teaparty Request in the subject line.
Oh my goodness! I just saw a story about this on CBS Sunday Morning a few weeks ago. I so want to go and find a float. I love glass and I have purchased through Etsy a few vintage glass floats, I think they were used in Japan or Korea. If interested, you could go to the CBSSundayMorning page and find the piece.

Jean, we saw that same piece on CBS Sunday Morning - it was fascinating!

Oh wow. I had no idea about that segment on CBS. I’ll have to check it out. The funny thing about that tiny state of Rhode Island is that when I skimmed through the list of people who had registered floats, I know several of them. And I don’t even live there! Just worked there for 20 years.
The coloured floats look amazing - they remind of a glass studio I visited a couple of times when I worked in Guernsey (Channel Islands). The one I have downstairs is plain dark green.
Jen, it was fun learning about the glass floats on Block Island. I visited there many years ago but didn't know about those. Hope Brian will have many opportunities to visit Block Island this summer.
God demonstrated His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us ... being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Romans 5:8 & 9
Jen, thanks for the challenge and the info on Block Island. New to me and I loved the pics too. It looks like a very fun and interesting place to visit. Maybe, someday.
Relaxing Beach
I went with a beach scene for the island idea and relaxing vibe for David. Wish I could have some Calypso music play with the card :-)

I'm coming back after surgery. My dr. has released me to cardiac rehab and driving. They are now pushing me to get back into my crafts. My card to Brian will be the first since my surgery. I will comment on all your cards before today is over. Its been a long 5 weeks. And more healing to occur but I've conquered the hard part. See you all soon.
Good to hear you're making progress MaryJo. Sounds like you're over the rough part. It'll be good to see you back in the gallery...whoever is advising you knows crafting is good for the soul.

Thanks Polly, yes the drs. Now want me to get back to what I love doing. For the last 5 weeks I was not allowed to raise both arms over my head at the same time, lift or push. Now it's full steam ahead. Today I am crafting all day while Nick is on the golf course.
I loved all the cards that Brian will be receiving. Ya'll did a fantastic job on your cards. I know these will cheer Brian up. He had a rough few months.
Thank you everyone for making him feel so special.
I have not heard from Brian yet. His partner told me on Monday Brian was was very sick and would keep me posted. He had a shoulder procedure and I'm sure this week is a bummer for both of them.
We did talk about the Orbs. They never found any but some of their friends have. How exciting.
hugs to all for sending Brian a card, it means a lot for me.
Hi Everyone,
Brian is receiving his cards. Miller said he was very touched by all of the cards he received so far with so many well wishes and wonderful messages. They are both struggling with getting well. Thank goodness their brothers and sisters are there to help them.
Big Hugs to all if you for lifting Brian's spirits.
Good morning everyone, what a beautiful day here.
Brian called yesterday, I was thrilled to finally hear his voice. The radiation and chemo has taken a tole on him and his working through it and on morphine. He is looking forward to brighter days when we can all be together as a family. He is hoping to be in Block Island in September at his favorite spot on earth.
Brian was so overcome by emotion when he started receiving cards. At first, he did not know who they were from until he got your card Sabrina from Ireland, then he knew I had something to do with it but still not fully sure. My father in law was from southern Island. We kept it a secret waiting for him to figure it out. Then he gets cards with your Aunt Mary, Then he knew for sure I was involved.
Brian said he appreciated the cards, on his darkest days your cards brought joy and lifted his spirts up. Thank you all so much for being so loving and caring.
many Hugs to you,
Oh goodness - I was deeply touched to get a personal note from Brian today.!
I know from experience with my son what a toll the chemo can take both on the spirit and the body. That rollercoaster ride can be exhausting to the patient. Brian's note today was upbeat and optimistic, and I hope he continues to have good days ahead.
