It's the last Tuesday of the month so that means it's time for our Teapot Tuesday Tickle Challenge
This week's challenge is brought to you by guest hostess: Dr Sonja, Sonja. My apologies that I cannot add her avatar here as I normally would - the site issues aren't yet resolved.
CHALLENGE: The end of the year, amid various holidays, and especially challenging in 2020, health issues related to global pandemic, can be very stressful. I offer, for the November Tickle, an opportunity to relax, breathe, and find your zen. Many of you are already familiar with zentangle, others may be new to this meditative art form. We have a lovely tutorial, by our talented Lydia Fiedler, in the SCS archives: Zentangling Tutorial - Splitcoaststampers Another terrific resource is www.tanglepatterns.com which houses a repository of hundreds of tangle patterns and tutorials. Please include a bit, or a bunch, of zentangle in your Teapotter Tickle card. If creating with Zentangle doesn't fit for you, then make a card that takes inspiration from an Oriental zen garden.
My most sincere wish is that you not stress over this activity, but truly take the time to relax, breathe and find your zen. Even if it is only a few minutes, turn off the pressures of the world. Turn your mind to the touch of your pen to paper. Allow your experience to flow, non-judgmentally. Pour love and purpose into the creation you will send to your sister in art. Open your heart, release the hurt, soothe the mind, soften and flow
For extra cookies, make it a holiday card.
SEND CARDS TO: This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other!
Check out THIS NEW THREAD in the TEApot Tuesday Extras Forum. If you are participating in the card exchange please go to this thread and follow the instructions. Make sure to sign up by bedtime on Saturday 28th November 2020. Your destination recipient will be PMed to you.

Fantastic challenge Dr. Sonja! I can wait to do this! Love your gift idea and may have to make them for my 7 granddaughters! Thanks for the inspiration!

If you're afraid, start small. Stamp something with open spaces and put some dots and lines inside those spaces. Or stamp something and doodle around it. What's the worst that can happen? It's just paper, right? Thanks, Sonja.
Just to reinforce Sonja's encouragement and to clarify a few things, Zentangle and doodling or tangling are very different, although they do cross over, imho. For a tangle to be called Zentangle, I think it needs to be sanctioned by Rick and Maria's company and maybe a CZT needs to submit it. And yes, originally, black and white is the preferred color. But they have branched out into gray and tan tiles and different color Microns and chalk pencils for adding color. A while ago, I did their project pack with a spinner and they added watercolor to the spinner. It was quite the project, rather challenging. But there are others out there who do not just do certified Zentangle and they do some lovely work. I'm not a purist and some of the patterns on my card are not strictly Zentangle.
If I were just starting out, I would cut a shape, square, rectangle or circle, use a pencil to put down some light strings, meaning divide it into areas and start from there. Doesn't have to be Micron, just needs to be a fine black pen. Sharpies work too. My card started out as 01 Micron black but I certainly covered that up. I haven't done anything quite like what I did for this challenge, never used markers to color in areas. Many Zentanglers create step outs for the patterns, those are helpful. I also like Margaret Bremner (Enthusiastic Artist). Do not be intimidated by her work, it's pretty incredible. And please don't use a pencil and then cover that up with the black. Just the pencil for the strings. Really, it's much better than way. No erasing!

Here's my zentangle card. I loved doing this! Thanks Sonja! No need to apologize. I appreciate your enthusiasm to encourage us to try something different.
Sonja, I agree with Gracie - no need to apologise.
Yes, it's not everyone's thing, and I love your restaurant analogy, but I can say that it's only by sometimes taking challenges that have stretched me that I know I have grown as a cardmaker. Five or six years ago I would have been far more daunted, but taking part in the occasional doodling or tangling challenge over the years has made something like this easier, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed doodling my little cat while knowing it wasn't strictly Zentangle. Sometimes I have tried a challenge that didn't appeal to me and been surprised to find it becoming part of my go-to repertoire. Equally, sometimes I know it's just not for me ;-), but I only find out by trying.

Sonja, you are so gracious but I don't think anyone really felt pressured. I hope I didn't add to it by putting in my two cents. I just love the art form so much. I don't draw but Zentangle gave me hope that I could. I think everyone did a wonderful job, just finally finished commenting. Using a stencil was genius!!!!! Well done!!!! Keep on keeping on, it gets better with time. And such an inexpensive art form! Paper and pen!
