I'm here too. Just taking it easy in the back. Ina, has your grandson been diagnosed? I did foster care for years and had a couple of non-verbal kids. It's so hard. Next week, I will be giving the challenge. I'm looking forward to that. It will be an easy one. Sharon, please keep the heater on. It's a bit chilly this morning. Blessings everyone!

CarollAnne, it's a long story. His older brother, who is 9 1/2 was diagnosed as being on the spectrum at the age of 3 1/2. He is doing very well, BTW. Because of his diagnosis, my DD took Neil to a specialist when he exhibited a few small signs, but the specialist told her, all is well. At that time, Neil was very verbal, talking a mile a minute, very clearly and intelligently, and singing, playing, etc. Then, exactly one year ago, over a period of about a week, he slowly became non verbal. He spent over a week in a neuro unit in a big teaching hospital. He tested negative for covid, so that was not investigated. Had numerous tests, scans, ultrasound, MRIs, and they were unable to diagnose him. When my DD told the original autism specialist about these happenings, he said, "Well, yes, I did diagnose him with autism." My DD said that she wasn't told, and he said he wanted to wait until Neil started school, to see how he did. That is totally not ethical. Now my DD is way behind in getting gov't funding for special treatment and schooling.
About 3 months ago, they saw another specialist, and he strongly felt that Neil had experienced a cytokine storm, possibly related to having had asymptomatic Covid. There it is, my long story.
The speech center in the brain is separate from the music center, and he is still very musical, humming a lot, and occassiinally using some words of the songs. Last evening he sang some words of the Raffi song, 'Down by the bay'.

Ina, I'm praying for that little boy. I had a girl that was severely autistic, and even though she was non-verbal, she enjoyed my singing to her often. My youngest three children were adopted. The youngest one was non-verbal too. He had extensive speech therapy and finally started talking. I sang to him a lot. He had many other issues too. Anyway, we are all perfect in God's eyes, so we have to learn to live with it and just keep praying. He's 27 now and is living with his father and stepmom in Georgia. He's doing pretty well, but I think he's getting homesick. He needs to stay there for a while because his dad is helping him get his driver's license. He finally passed the written test so he should be able to do well on the behind-the-wheel test. It's just another hurdle. Thanks for sharing your story about your little grandson.

Hi gang...had a windy birthday with gusts of 60+ mph but a nice day basically...My younger grands got me a t-shirt that has animal silhouettes above the words ZOO CREW.... I am a docent at our zoo on a volunteer basis. so the shirt suits. Saturday I drove in wind and rain to Sharon's town to help with a 4-H event at Botanica...the rainy weather played a part in low attendance but those who came had fun and learned a great deal. Sunday I went to a 4-H livestock show to watch my only granddaughter and one of my young grandsons show sheep and goats and pigs. It was chilly in the building but at least there were walls and a roof.....I haven't made a card in almost two weeks due to over scheduling of "things to do" and evening end of school concerts. with grands in 4 school buildings and all in choir of some type there are lots of concerts. The junior here is in choir, jazz band, vocal jazz, and concert band so he has two concerts by himself. Then there is the end of the year for the drama department and awards and such.....so another evening away from home. Hoping things settle down soon....Concert tomorrow takes care of 3 of the grands and should be fun.

Pansy! You were here? Shoot! Missed you again! LOL rain? We didn’t get any on this side of town. So dry! You sound busier than ever! Glad you had a happy birthday!
Ina, I remember your prayer requests for your grandson, and prayed for him, but hadn’t heard the latest on him. I didn’t realize that he was still having problems. I think it is terrible that the doctor did not give your daughter the diagnosis from the start. Like you said unethical!.
CarrollAnn, I remember you saying that your son had some to live with his Dad. Will he be coming home after he gets his drivers license?
I haven’t done any crafting except for putting card kits together for a seniors group that I help make cards once a month.
tomorrow , maybe I will craft. Oh, almost 80 on Sunday, and fifty and windy today! Crazy , crazy weather!
it is so hard to keep the bus on the road when it is so windy! Hang on back there! LOL
We're hanging on back here, Sharon! Thanks for asking about my son. He calls me almost daily and I can tell he's getting homesick. I hope he stays with his dad for a while though. He is doing so well there. I think it's good for his dad too. He worries about me though due to my age and a couple of health issues. Congratulate me. I sold my van! It was a big 12 passenger van I bought for foster care. Boy, Pansy is one busy lady! I admire that. My next project is a yard sale. I have boxes of games and toys all over my great room. It's just been too cold on the weekends. When it warms up, I hope one of my daughter's can come and help me. We have been in a severe drought here. Pray for rain! I'm hanging on and enjoying the ride!

Hi everyone, gosh that was a long sleep on the bus and I'm about to hop off again soon. I'm afraid I will be very behind with the challenges and may not even get them done. So sorry. Life and sleeping has got in the way. Had our flu shots yesterday and all good so far. We have to book in for our 4th vaccine soon.
Ina, I can't believe that it's a year either since little Neil lost his voice. Singing is beautiful and helps so many in therapy. It may be the start to him finding his vocal chords again one day. I hope so.
Thinking of your DGD Sharon. I so hope she is going to be ok.
Time for me to carry on and catch up with chores, etc. It's cool and a slight drizzle here. Where is the sun although I am rugged up and don't want those high temps back. Have fun everyone and Sharon, am I able to be let off next week and before Mothers Day please? I may not be back for a long time but will keep an eye on the bus as it passes. Have fun.

Hi everyone! Congratulations, CarrollAnn for selling your van! Must feel good to get it sold if you no longer need it.
Jan, how is Steve?
Jayne, they are still doing tests, and still don’t know what s wrong with our DGD. It is very frustrating for her parents, not knowing what it is, or how to treat it. She will be home from college soon. I am going there to see middle grand graduate from college. Looking forward to that.
Hi Pansy, Ina and Jan (hearsong47), Jill, TerryJ, Shelly, and Rebekah!
Sharon, thank you for mentioning my selling my van. I'm no longer doing foster care so I did not need it. Now I will have enough money to get sliding glass doors to replace the atrium doors that are almost 22 years old and just aren't doing their job. I've been thinking about our May challenge and I think I have decided what it will be. Fun, fun, fun!

I'm ready for a new challenge...what do you have for May?
Sharon his ankle is still swollen but at least we can now do part of our morning walk, slowly
So sorry to hear they haven’t found out what’s wrong with your DGD, I can imagine how worried you all are. You must be excited to be going to see your family and celebrate your other DGD graduate, I remember seeing our eldest graduate from Uni,, mind you it was about 25 years ago, haha we had our photo taken, the three of us, I still have it hanging on the wall in the hall.
cant believe it’s almost May, our Youngest DGS was six yesterday, it seems to have gone so fast since he was born.
Hello, hello. I'll hop back on as I recover from ankle surgery and be glad for the ride around!!! The last month or so I got off and was so scattered with all that had to be done for life!
Ina, that is so sad that Neil's dr wasn't upfront with them. But to hear him sing a little would be so sweet. My friend has two boys with Autism. She and her husband do an amazing job. Our town is working hard and getting a new Inclusive Playground built and I am beyond happy for her and so many other families out there that need this.
Hey, Riders! Are you ready for another challenge?! OK, May is my month. I asked for it because it's my birthday month. I will be 75 on May 17th! So, I challenge all the Twisted Sisters to make a birthday card. You can make a fancy fold if you like, but that's not required. You must use some lavender or pink on your card. Also, you MUST include a sticker of some kind on your creation. Fun, right? Enjoy!

Love the May challenge- I did not get the April challenge done- I will try- we will be gone about 1/2 of May or have family here visiting!
My DD1 was here overnight- a 12th grade student at her school- and mom is a teacher with her- has had issues with depression on/off- and snuck out of school and threw himself in front of a train Friday. So glad she went to a Group grief crisis meeting and then came home to be with us- and I hope her being here was comforting to her, but going back to school Monday is going to be hard for so many teachers and kids too! She said they were all feeling the weight of did we do everything we could to avert this tragedy! Yes, a bit heavy!
Heard from Sharon too after the storms went through an area pretty close to her- I was so on edge waiting to hear all was OK!
On a Happy note, the Baltimore Orioles have returned to our area- we started putting out feeders, then the neighbors did as well. So- today, both neighbors saw them at feeders, and I was so sad- but finally saw one in our tree! Awesome! It makes me so excited to see them and watch them all summer! Next- hummingbirds : )
OH Shelly, please tell your DD that as a former teacher I understand the pain. We don't always have to assume the guilt when something like this happens. One year ago in March, at my cross the street neighbors house, the 15 year old shot his mother, called 911 to report it, and went back inside and shot her again. She did not survive. The boy spent a year in local juvenile detention facility and after all the lawyers worked together he is now in a State juvenile facility where he will remain until he turns 18 when he will be transferred to an adult prison. Father, younger sister and younger brother still live across the street. The 15 year old and my grandson also 15 at the time were casual friends at school and both in the band. It impacted my grandson heavily.

Shelly and Pansy, you both have heart wrenching stories. So sad and distressing. And I think we all have been impacted by similar events. As we heard on the news about Naomi Judd, so many struggle with mental(emotional) ilness. My own DD has struggled with it since she was 11. And I am so thankful that she is coping so well. I think the need to advocate for her 2 autistic sons has given her a special kind of strength. And she has a mother who will listen to her without judgement and does not offer advice unless she asks for it.

Great challenge CarrollAnn. And it comes at a really good time, as I have 7 birthday cards to make this month. The first one is for my brother's , which is today!! The time got away on me, so he will get a phone call and a belated bd card. BTW, how did it get to be May already? I'm not complaining, because I live the promise if warmer weather and all the spring flowers bloomimg.
Shelly, I love Baltimore orioles, but we don't see them very much around here. Only one sighting last year.
Cool and rainy here today. It's a day for transplanting a couple of houseplants and planting a few mosquito plants that I propagated in water. And making cards of course.

Yes, Shelly, we were 4 miles from where the EF 3 tornado hit. I feel for all the ones that lost their homes. 150 homes hit, a third of them completely gone. The worst that happened to us was we were without power from 8:30 pm until midnight. I can live with that. The tornado was on the ground 21 minutes and crossed the city in a almost 13 mile path.
Sharon that was a close call with the tornado, pleased to hear you are both ok.
picked out my papers for the challenge and I’ve cut all the pieces, just need to find a sticker, I only have a few that were freebies as it’s not something I buy.
Jan, you can make your own sticker! In junk journaling, if someone doesn’t have a sticker, the challenge hostess says make one. . Just put sticky on the back of something that looks like it could be a sticker.
Sharon, I wondered how close you were to the tornado....My niece lives on the west side of Wichita(think 119th street) and she said it was scary there as well. This one was almost exactly 30 years after the last big one hit.
I had turned my furnace off on Saturday thinking that May would be warmer than April....for two days it was....My house said it was 62 this morning so I wimped out and turned it back on so my bathroom would warm up before shower time.
The May challenge will be a challenge.....pink is my most unfavorite color with purple riding its coat tails. BUT I will "get 'er done".......I promise.
It is of course time for end of school "concerts and affairs and on a night when we were looking forward to our "special needs" boy being in his first concert (Covid cancelled the last two) his high school brother comes home with announcement that the Thespian group is having officer installation and awards tonight. And of course the concert is a 6"30 and the thespian thing starts at 6. Oh well. we will cope. Schools are on opposite sides of town as well.

Pansy we cleaned out the log fire as we had a couple of weeks of warm evenings, it’s really not cold enough to need it but we are still using gas for hot water not solar, by now, we would have been using for a month or so, it’s been very wet here which is not normal as we can go without rain from March to November some years but we haven’t actually had the heater on to shower, we tend to shower in the evenings in winter and then put our dressing gowns on, haha
our son has that problem now our GSs go to different schools, they did attend the same one but they closed the younger ones part of the school so he had to move, now they have to drop one off early and double back to the one near home for the eldest, luckily they are still working mainly from home
Pansy, pink is certainly not my colour either, but I don't mind purple, especially if it is combined with blue. Orange us also an unfavourie colour for me. But as you say, we will get it done! That's why it's called a challenge.
Where we live is also a sort of tornado corridor. In the 40 some odd years since I have lived here we have had about 5 come within 15 miles of here. Last year the one that went 5 miles north of here, did not do too much damage. In August of 2005, a tornado cut a narrow swath, just half a mile frim me. Lots of trees uprooted, damage to farms and cottages, but no one was killed. It's scary when the high winds come.

Purple and all shades of it are my favourite, our youngest GS insisted they send me Purple flowers for my birthday as it's my favourite colour, some pinks I like but like Ina I would never use Orange unless forced!!
Supposed to be cloudy all day today...I am so ready for sunshine and warm!
My special needs boy and his concert came off great...they sang Take me out to the ballgame with actions, Do, Re, Mi with actions and You've got a friend in me as a first grade class. Then at the end combined with the second graders to sing while holding battery powered tea lights the song This little light of mine. Grandma was swooning!!!!!
Today one of my projects is working on the display board for middle grandson(have two older than him and 3 younger but two are his twin brothers) to use when giving his project talk at 4-H Monday night. Had to research Boer goats with him last night after school.
Got to get in the craft room today as I have a graduation card to make and the event is Saturday.
Keep the bus full Sharon and watch for cheaper rates on the fuel.....

Gas was 3.99 in Wichita, but cheaper here in Atlanta. Did I tell you I brought the bus here? Talk about warm and humid! I guess I will fill bus with gas here since it is cheaper.2.69. We are heading to SC tomorrow from here to see our younger grandson graduate from college. Won’t be back to my craft room til next week, Wednesday.
Glad to be on tge bus in Atlanta, as opposed to flying in. The Atlanta airport is so huge and confusing. When I had to make a connection there, I was so happy that I had detailed instructions from a friend who used to do business in Atlanta on a regular basis.
Sharon, enjoy your family and the festivities. Congratulations for your grandson graduating. And cheaper gas is always a bonus. Americans should look at Canadian gas prices before they complain. Our gas is now up to $1.90 per litre. I need to look at the litre to gallon conversion to tell you how that translates.

O.K., I figured it out. That would make our gas in Ontario $7.19 per gallin. Keep in mind that we have major amounts of tax on our gas. I am not sure what it is now, maybe about 30 %.

Hey Sharon,,,not to rock your boat--but gas prices increased by 30 cents per gallon in Wichita on Wednesday....hitting the $4 a gallon mark......but cheaper than what Ina is looking at....and she has a lot of distance to cover.....LOL!
Day is starting out sunny so hope it continues as my 4-H event tomorrow is out of doors......since it is held at the zoo that makes sense doesn't it. But would like good conditions! and a medium sized crowd.

Pansy, is your 4-H event a day touring the zoo, or are you having other activities there too? Hoping for good weather for you.
I'm glad the bus is stopped for awhile. That way we won't be burning gas. My oldest DD lives 110 minutes north east of me, and the gas is usually 5 to 7 cents per litre cheaper, so I always fill up there when I visit. I was planning to do that this past Sunday and was also planning to stay overnight in a hotel (not pre-booked). When I stopped to get gas, I realized I had forgotten my purse. No driver's license, no credit card. I did have $20 in my pocket, so got that much gas, in order to make it home, but no tankful, and no hotel room. Drove home that evening, which was not bad, as it stays light longer now. Did I mention that I do not enjoy driving in the dark?
My yougest grandson turns 6 today!
