S2S Challenge 2015

Well, I've got two years under the belt as convener of this challenge, 2014 has been a fun year, with lots of chatter going on and a new challenge every week. I feel very honoured to carry on the job that Kelly (ScrappinCEO) started several years ago.
She got us off to a great start, with trying to get our supplies organized. I want to build on that in the coming year, not only for myself, but also to encourage you to do so. The challenge is not only to spend less, but also to use more. There are several forums other than this one, that are dedicated to pretty well the same idea. 'AOCC' and '100 in 100' are just two of them.
A big part of using more of our stash is to get it organized. I am committed to organizing and cleaning up my stamping space in the coming year (again!) and I will be encouraging you to do the same.
We're starting off a new year with a new perspective. Let's declutter, decide what we want to keep, donate the rest and clear the deck for all new STAMPING/ SCRAPPING/ CREATIVE FUN!

REMEMBER: There are NO SET RULES. This is all about helping you be more aware of your spend -to-use ratio.

THE CONCEPT:
Determine how much you want to PAY yourself for the following:
(These are just examples. Brainstorm what works for you)

How much will you pay yourself for:
1 double pg LO
5 cards (basic matting/ embossing/ embellishment)
5 ATCs
1 Altered Item
1 Premium Item (think explosion cards or intricate items)
1 Challenge (there are a lot of great threads on this Forum)
1 VSN event
1 Meet-Up event
1 Updated Creative Blog Post
1 Gallery Upload (this is one DAY - not Item. You upload Mon - Fri. you
get 5 credits.)
Participating/ completing a swap or RAK


Some people also pay themselves for non-stamping items (things they need a little extra incentive for)

1) working out
2) losing a pound
3) eliminating a bad habit (credit per day)
4) for each book read


How will you keep track? Some people (like me) have used an account book.
Others have designed Excel sheets to keep track on their computer.
It's up to you whether you carry the totals over from last year or not.
Every week, I will be posting a challenge to get you inspired and get your creative juices flowing.
Let's keep the RED out of our check register and on our projects for 2015!

How do you count money spent when using a gift card? I would guess that's freebies! I got $125 in gift cards to Michaels for Christmas!

I went up today but didn't even spend $25. I don't want to spend it just because I have it. I want to use it on stuff I want!

I've always counted them as 'freebies' because they did not come from your pocket. However, if you want your balance to look good... add it in and save it for something special Like the Sal A Bration sale beginning on Jan. 6th

Love that die! Well I just ordered three LOTV stamps, because they have a special till 9th I think three stamps for 10 lbs or about 15.00 and free shipping as always! . This is the spend challenge, isn't it?

I found you, I found you. To start the year off I am going to tell you what I bought with my gift card at Michaels.

I bought Artist Loft - Water Colour wax crayons. I love love love them. They were 21.99 before coupon for 24 crayons. I used them to make a background on a Canvas. You can see the canvas by following the link below. I also used them on three cards. I will post pictures tomorrow in my gallery.

What I can tell you about them is that they are very similar to the gelatos, much cheaper, and I find they cover better, blend the same and last longer.

They work best if the paper is covered with gesso first. (There are a few videos out their that show the difference between gesso'd and ungesso'd when working with sprays or colours) BIG DIFFERENCE.

It does not matter if you are working on water colour paper, canvas or cardstock. The gesso allows you to blend them with your finger or to add water and spread the colour.

Well it is cold here! 16 degrees, don't know what the wind chill is, but colder! Snow on the ground, as it snowed all day yesterday.

Happy new year everyone, we had a quiet evening last night, just the two of us for a change, didn't both staying up for midnight in the end as we both felt tired then we were woken up by the fireworks at midnight. We've just been out for our morning walk and had breakfast on the seafront, it was quite cloudy first thing so they lit the patio heater for us although we didn't think it was that cold, now we are home sitting in the conservatory where it's warmer as the sun has just come out.

I'm not looking at the Misti video again, I was tempted last time I looked!

Sharon, I love your calendars, hope you paid yourself plenty for making them.
