Gracie I hear you. I haven’t created for days and doubt I will for a few more days now. So much to learn so much to do and where to start lol. Have fun.
Shirley, if you end up eventually getting a Dylusions journal go for the plain ones. I have the Jump Start one with ready made pages but I won’t use it as they are so pretty lol. I need to get over myself on that. I can understand your fear of journals having had that experience. I’m going to use one of my journals as a travel come mini scrapbook rather than writing about how I feel. A bit like a December Daily journal I guess. You could just get a cheap one and use for techniques. Happy shopping and video watching. Might be best to tell your hubby you will be MIA for a while once you start lol.
Today new adventures start for us so I need to keep a reminder for my travel journal. Whoohoo

Jayne mentioned Margarete Miller as the creator of the prompts, and a worldwide collection of folks enjoying her Collage Weekly Planner glue books that so many on YouTube are filming themselves doing before they go on to the main video. She also has an online group of collage-loving people, called the Margarete Miller Collective. Amateurs to professionals like to display their works on this site, and when they like your project the notice you get is that they “cheered you on”. It’s quite friendly. I joined and have been studying collages on Instagram to see the ones I like best and making notes until I could develop my own style. I’ve been posting my own creations on there for two weeks now and love how many “cheers” are received, no matter if it’s good or bad. Such a friendly group.
Would anyone mind if I posted them on here as well. Mine have bits of mixed media, not just papers.
Thanks in advance, take care.

Kandie, I'd love to see your projects. I tend not to watch videos that are 'project' oriented...I love to make backgrounds so I have stash to do projects.

Ladies, absolutely. This isn’t my thread. It belongs to all of us and for sharing ideas/tips/projects…anything MM related. Please, post your projects. Can’t wait to see them.
If it wasn’t for Kandie mentioning Margarete I wouldn’t have thought of buying her prompts. Great idea and takes away the stress of thinking for me lol.
I’m not creating at present as we are busy setting up the RV and doing house stuff. Had more work done yesterday. Crazy time here. It’s also very hot and we have about 5 solid days around 40 degrees…eek.
Kandie thinking of you and keep doing your art. Loving what you are making and sharing on FB. Please share them here.
I will be back when this crazy period is over. Sending hugs

I have been making a daily large (6x8 ) collage in one journal I have only for that size. I have 7 so far. This is not the Margarete Miller challenge, this is just me trying out different ideas.
Here is today. The sun is out even though it’s so cold, and it made me think of yellow flowers, bees and butterflies. The lady is a fun picture that Jayne sent me ages ago.

It’s so cold out, I got my flu and virus booster yesterday which is making me ache today, and my sinuses are being bad, so I decided today should be a soft color journal collage, and I went with a piece of printable vellum on which I had printed a lovely soft pink bg with slightly darker pink leaves for another project. I’ve had the feather for a bit but never had a place to use it.

OHHH I'm loving your journal pages Kandie and Gracie! Thanks for sharing these here. I can get easily lost in the abyss of this site and others looking for what I like and this is a nice thread to always find just that!
Got my first journal delivered. I bought the Classic Dylusions Journal that is about 8x11.5 or so. I also bought an 8x10 gelli plate. Found myself staring at both with an eek and what now feeling. Ha!
Been watching some videos online and on last years thread. My question is do you always pull prints from your gel plate that are single sheets and then adhere them into the journal if you use the whole sheet or do you somehow do this directly into the journal itself? And how long do you let them dry if you want to keep working into a collage or other mediums? Does it matter?
Thanks!
Amy

Shirley, that's the cool thing about mixed media! You can do it any way you'd like. Sometimes, I begin creating on the page, but most of the time I create on a separate piece of paper and then glue into my journal. Just do what you feel like and remember there are no mistakes in creating collages...you can always alter it, add more, etc. You can use bits and pieces of your gel prints or the whole piece for a background! Just have fun experimenting!

Thanks for the input. Just looked up this Margarete Miller collective you guys mentioned and watched a YouTube on one someone did. Very Cool! Amazed at all the vintagey papers and ephemera that is out there that people collect, find, buy, have, etc. I like the prompt idea as well and could see doing this for myself, but not in planner form. For me the planner thing represents things to do and responsibility. Art makes are freedom and that is kind of opposite in my mind. I use scrapbooking as more the memory keeping narrative, but can see blending these more in my future.
And, by the way, I am Amy. Shirley is my Mom. That is why I am ShirleysGirl.

Oops, yes, Amy! I don't think my "glue book," as Margarete calls them, will be able to fit all of the 52 pages I'll be creating. It's already getting thick, so I may end up with several. I have a 1" flap at the bottom that you can lift where I write the date, the 5 prompts, etc. I think it will be fun book to have and, in the future, look back at what I've done. I'm not much for writing in journals. I like the creativity of collages.

Amy, I follow the Margarete Miller planner book as well, however, Jayne lists several prompts at the first of each month and we are free to create any way we wish! So I do one structural, and one (or several) free form on whatever surface I feel like using, no restrictions!
Gracie, your planner pages are OUTSTANDING.

Kandie, thanks so much showing your beautiful pages and inspiring me to give Margarete's collage weekly challenges a try. Our styles are very different, but I'm like you, it is such a wonderful distraction from the "world of worries" and so much fun taking time to create ART. I love it! At first, I thought using the 5 prompts would limit me, but it actually is inspiring and helps me think "outside the box." Big hugs and happy creating!

I jumped in and got messy with my new gelli plate and made quite a nice stack of prints yesterday. Also, I got brave and did one directly as a double page spread in a 5x8 journal I forgot I had. Which led me to love that and decide to go ahead and join in on the Margarete Miller collage weekly challenge prompts. So off to Etsy I went to buy those prompts for the year and get started. I thought with those it would help me dive in more easily and I believe it did. So I did a journal title page and the week one challenge. On one I did last year's altered envelope challenge using a mini one I made. Added the tags for gelli plate and collage from last year's challenges as well. Also, did a scrapbook page using this month's challenge prompts by Jayne. I have always liked using lists to get things done, so this was a nice way to focus my creative process.
Amy so happy you joined in on Magarete's challenges, too! You are off to a wonderful start! I checked out your pages and made comments on each of them! What fun! You should add your pages to this thread too! Just got to advance and choose attachments, which will add the thumbnail photos. Whoo Hooo!

Here's the 4th page I made for Margarete's weekly collage planner #2022cwp4. Prompts were: *something fancy (fancy frame) *something that starts with an H (heart) *part of a recipe (yellow tag) *a tree with fruit or blossoms ) (cherry blossom tree branch) *something torn (trim piece on left edge) Bonus: something used in an office (paper clip.)

I've finished Weeks 2&3 for Margaret Miller's challenge. They are in my gallery. I will attempt to attach them as thumbnails here. We shall see how that goes...

And Gracie I love your week 4 collage! I just kept going back to it again and again. Love that little bird like he has a message to be read. Your fancy frame and the way you inserted the heart are perfect ways to add in two of the elements listed. Soooo lovely!

Crikey-my desk is full of bits n bobs that are just too cute to throw away. Does your workspace get a shambles, too? I thought I would check with the mixed media makers for some ideas. Now, off to see what I can use with the prompts.
Aye, who could guess that among that lot of flotsom there were only 2 bits with blue? My color wheel is cocked. So, I went with a blue background and created a busy garden scene with lots of B things in it. Many B's by TeriJ at Splitcoaststampers
While perusing my box of texture mediums, I was dismayed to find many of the Tonic mousse jars had turned to moon rocks. They don't appear to be salvageable unless crumbled and used for grit texture. Do you have similar problems with this item? Any suggestions? Tonic has lots of cute bottles for their products but one would think they could use a container that protects the goods? A tube might do a better job of keeping the pastes from drying out.
Teri, I don't know what those jars are, however, if you think they are not salvageable, I would at least try to see if I could soften them by adding some water and letting it sit for a while. If you would be tossing them anyway, it's worth a shot.
Teri glad you found us and joined in on the challenge. A new challenge will be posted on 1st February. I also have those jars and yes they dry out. I tried to add water but it didn’t make a difference. I do put cling wrap on top of the jar before I add the cap now and it helps. I was told by a lady on this site (unfortunately she’s no longer on here) to try and crumble the paste and use as texture. I found it was too rock hard to even do that so I tossed it and don’t buy them now.
Kandie, Gracie, Amy…fabulous collage pages. I didn’t buy this years prompts and daren’t look as I have way too many classes to finish lol. The prompts I did buy are Margrete’s from a couple of years ago and I mix them up as I wasn’t sure about copyright but I don’t think it matters. I’ll add a prompt in a couple of days for February.
Happy Messy Mix Media ladies. Keep having fun.

OMG-something heavy? I wonder what that will be and how much postage it will cost to mail it? LOL Thanks for the great, interesting, and stimulating prompts. Can't wait to see what this month brings.

LOL…think outside the box. A heavy paste, heavy CS, a heavy image, etc.

Amy awesome page. I think I need to use the MM prompts I purchased for some of the journal classes I’m doing. I seem to get stuck. Thanks for playing in this months challenge.
