Good morning, ladies. Gracie, thank you for the compliment on my Easter journal. I filled it with vintage rabbit, bunny, bird and flower ephemera (oh yes, and chicks and eggs too.). For me, putting journals together leads me to Etsy for digital downloads, and that leads to $$$$$, so much that my bank, bless their heart, sent me an email asking if I recognized the user who was ordering constantly from Etsy, lol. Oh yes I do!
Thank you, Debbie, Jan and SuZ!
Jan... WOWSER on your wax card! Holy cow is it beautiful!!!
Jayne, yes I have waxed paper, thanks for the inspiration!
Teresa, so many ladies on here and on the Alpha thread (you should check it out) who have made wonderful journals!
Today I’m attempting to start one using an old cigar box for the front and back covers and the spine. This should be interesting.

I finally had a chance to watch some of the videos using wax. I've had the Gamblin cold wax for a few months. I bought it to apply over finished pages. It makes the colors more vibrant and protects your work. Learned that from ArtyMaze on YouTube. I had no idea you do all those other techniques with it. I can't wait to try it mixed with some alcohol inks. I bought them a few years ago and barely used them. Now I have another use for them.
I tried to buy cold wax and couldn’t find any in our shops. Good job really as I need to keep focused on the projects and challenges I want to try first lol. Have fun everyone and see you over on the MMJ chat thread.
Don’t forget to post your creations over on the chat thread so we all can see them. The next challenge to be posted on here will be Nancy’s on corrugated cardboard. Now I know you all have that as who doesn’t shop lol.
happy week and creating. Hope you get messy.

You all know how much I love using corrugated cardboard for projects so, of course, my idea is to use it the next two weeks. Normally, I would have a sample all ready but for some reason i didn't realize the 15th was today - seems I have been a week behind at home (not work - work is another story...).
Here as some fun videos to inspire you:

Hope you will play with me in the next few weeks or whenever you can catch up (I am behind myself to TOTALLY understand!

I made a junk journal a few months ago and used a piece of card board from a box to make the cover. I tore the paper off one side and grunged and painted it before decorating it. I will pull it out and take a photo to share here. I'll try to get make something new in the next week. Cardboard is a fun canvas to use.
Hi everyone, I'm behind one challenge (journaling with dp) but I have been turning over some ideas in my head. I don't use dp a lot (do I buy it? Yes!) and I don't journal, but I still have an idea or two. I got my second vaccine on Saturday and the only real issues I had was some fatigue and a headache that lasted longer than usual. I kept waiting for more issues but never happened. I slept 12 hours on Saturday night, even with losing an hour.
I used to have some corrugated cardstock, not sure I still have it. But I do have cardboard boxes. I think Melody said you could wet the cardboard and pull off the top layer. I do have a card in my gallery that used a piece of corrugated that I had used to add texture with paint and I liked it so well, I used that piece of cardboard as a background, just the way it was. Grunge personified! So I'm excited to work on this, Nancy!
We got snow last night, enough to cover the grass. It's heavy and wet so will be a little slippery. It's all a part of spring around here. Were you all careful yesterday, since it was the Ides of March?!

Jean, you can mist the cardboard and then pull the top layer off. If it doesn’t come off well you will see that there are tiny holes perforated down the top/side. It helps to pull it off by inserting a knitting needle or something into there. I always use cardboard boxes. It gives great texture even with some of the paper left on. I think on the first video the lady shows how to get the paper off.
Glad your second vaccine went well. I was careful lol.

I use pieces from boxes and I don't use water to help remove the paper from one side. I just rip some off. I don't like pulling it all off.
Here is a the cover of a junk journal I made a while ago using cardboard from a box as the base. Cardboard Junk Journal Cover by javagirl984 at Splitcoaststampers
I will definitely make another project soon with cardboard and share it here.

Just a reminder everyone and to myself...oops........Challenges only to be posted on this thread. Thank you. I know it’s confusing and ideas on how to improve are appreciated. I like how the Alpha challenge does it...challenges listed and where you post your creation with a separate chat thread. I think we started doing that and then we went back to the other thread lol. Suggestions please....remember I’m just the admin person *wink*

Hello, happy April 1st and also April Fool’s Day! It was definitely that this morning - it was snowing! Tomorrow and the next 3 days are to be in the 70s. Joke is on us, lol!
As promised, here are videos on Mail Art. Mail Art is an art in itself, like mixed media, artist trading cards and so on. So much fun to not only send a card (or even just a letter) but also decorate the envelope as well! And I can’t think that the mail clerks in the post office don’t enjoy seeing them as much as we enjoy mailing them and he receiver receives!
Hello everyone, it’s the 15th..just..gosh it comes around quickly. It’s also my challenge on masking.
You can either use masking fluid, create your own mask using magazines, or if all else fails, use masking tape mask (see Lydia’s video), or mask when stamping. There’s lots of options. Please don’t go out and purchase masking fluid...these are just ideas to inspire you and if you get one idea out of one of the videos, that’s great.
I don’t have samples..sorry..like some of you I’m very behind, but I did do the masking technique using a magazine for one of my DT theme projects a few months ago.
The important thing is to have fun. The last video is long, so skip ahead although the lady does have a soothing voice.
Looking forward to seeing what you create. Happy day.
These videos should give you ideas galore! Enjoy, and I look forward to seeing your projects/posts on the MMJ chat thread. Happy creating.

May is here! How did that happen? We had a nephew get married yesterday, and I was gone all day, so popping in to post the next challenge!
So, for the May 1st challenge, we will be using Gilding flakes. As I had previously mentioned, if you do not have any, drop me a PM and I can mail you a sample to create with .
There are a variety of ways to create using flakes, and I have posted some You Tube video's (below) using a number of ways to adhere them. If you have any other technique, please do share!Gilding flakes:
She uses glue stamp pad and a stamp; flake and glitter glue; she adds watercolor over the flakes:

I fast forwarded thru a bit of this, the last bit of the video she shows card samples
Add paper to a base of fabric and you end up with a product that, although mostly paper, can be treated like fabric. You can add pattern paper, magazine pages, book pages, headlines, pictures, whatever you like.
Happy Thursday and 1st of the month everyone….this means a new MMJ challenge, and I’m your host today. If you enjoy journals, like junk, you might want to check this out. I’m sure that the techniques can be also used on cards and tags. I hope you join in and play.
Making art journals using magazines
There’s also a lady called Dede Wellingham who makes a lot of magazine art journals. Her videos can be long but you can find her on YouTube if you want to see how she makes a journal start to finish.
Hope you get messy and inky.

Nancy here posting this a bit late - life was tough this week at work and somehow I lost a few days! LOL!
I am addicted to ATCs after doing a global swap with a group of friends - I should be getting some ATCs from Greece and Germany and I am super excited about getting them from some people who are more experienced at them than I am. I am learning though and have devoured a number of videos! Here are a few of them I really liked:
<p

<p
This has tons of information on why ATCs are so fun:

Can't wait to see what you make!!!!! Remember 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches and texture - those are the only guidelines! Hugz

Pinch punch it is 1st of the month. How did that happen. Here we are in August and it is time for another messy mixed and joyful challenge. Today we are going to look at collage. Here are some videos to inspire you.
Artsy Fartsy Life’s video is long but she follows the Dyan Reaveley process from the same class that I also took, so if you like weird I would recommend sticking with it. She does amazing work..
I’ve tried to provide a few different collage styles in the videos. Which one is yours? Hope you find some inspiration. The important thing is just to have fun.
Happy weekend and I hope that you get messy.

Here goes nothing. Welcome to the first challenge of September 2021. The challenge is to use envelopes in different ways. This is NOT mail art, where you simply decorate an envelope.. This is about thinking about envelopes in a new way. Some of the videos are about creating a different kind of envelope, like the origami one, which then you will make mixed media using your favorite techniques. Other videos are more specific about that. Feel free to come up with your own videos and ideas. I probably found three or four more videos, but didn't want to overwhelm:
Video #1: Creating an Envelope Accordion Flip Book
Hi everyone, it’s the first of the month which means a new challenge. For this month it’s going to be your choice of whatever you want to do to make a mixed media project.
Choose one of the videos already posted since this thread commenced, or if you have come across a video on YouTube on a technique or MM project, use that as your inspiration. Perhaps you might incorporate two or more techniques. If you’ve learnt a new technique share it with us.
Your project can be an ATC, card, journal page, canvas….whatever takes your fancy. Anything goes this month….can’t wait to see your creations.
Happy October everyone. I hope that you get messy.

Obviously, I'm very slow at getting a challenge posted! I found this interesting YouTube tutorial on Exposed Spine Binding. I hope to try it after all the holidays.

Hi everyone, I thought I would share this with you and make it our December challenge. As some of you already know, I’m trying to get into art journalling…..unsuccessfully…mainly because life has been busy and I’m currently still fighting a chest infection. I have, however (and I’m not the only one *wink*) signed up to take some art journalling courses next year. I intend to finally break the blank pages in my journals as well as incorporate what I learn in my travel journals. I have followed this lady for a while but came across this video, and others, recently.
Those of you who have lost their mojo or wish to dip their toes into art journalling, this is a great way to start. Happy MM and I hope that you get inky. Keep well everyone.

Fun video, Jayne! Lots of great ideas! Once my craft sales are done, I'm going to try focus on more multi media and watercolor. Just playing because I can! Take care friend and keep on keeping on! Hope you feel much better soon! Hugs!
