You know I never have understood why they have those sections of colors, brights, regals, subtles, etc??? they must have some thought or plan is to how they're supposed to be used or why they put them in those groups but I don't know what it is.

Hi!

When can we hope for the latest in-colors?

Thanks!

Meanwhile, pages 160-161 have the following:

Rococo comes after Melon Mambo
Terra Cotta comes after Calypso Coral
Peacock comes after Spruce
Blueberry - Seaside - Posy

I won't have my papers for another few weeks. Can't order until after Memorial Day. Will put them in color order right after that. I know! I'm on pins and needles too!

If you'd like my really wild guesses and/or my impressions:

Rococo Rose is VERY grayed. The tint looks like Mauve Mist/Marvelous Magenta in the amount of red and blue, but add a healthy amount of light gray. Or you could say it's a bit redder than Sweet Sugarplum. It might go nice with Blushing Bride.

Terracotta Tile is grayed as well, and it looks to me like it might be lighter than Dusty Durango in color, maybe a touch more orange.

Pretty Peacock looks very similar to Island Indigo or Not Quite Navy to me. We'll see.

Seaside Spray looks a lot like Bashful Blue. Maybe a bit lighter. And grayer. Not sure about this one

Purple Posy might be really close to Highland Heather only significantly lighter or it might be bluer like the old Lovely Lilac...it definitely looks cleaner (less gray) and less blue than Almost Amethyst.

I'm thinking the Posy and the Sea Foam might make great card bases with just those touches of color. But that's just me.

Well, I was right about Rococo Rose being really grayed. But looking at colors on a screen is not too accurate. I have placed it between Primrose Petals and Blushing Bride. And looking at at my sheets now I might separate it off from Primrose. But it is absolutely beautiful with Blushing Bride.

Terracotta Tile is mighty close to both Dusty Durango and Calypso Coral. I put it between the two, but I think it belongs in the group with the Coral. It is slightly grayed compared to the Coral.

Pretty Peacock is lovely! But it doesn't have a color grouping with it. It's a tad greener than Island Indigo...and darker.

Seaside Spray is slightly grayed. In my blues page the gray definitely shows up. But it's nowhere near as gray as Bordering Blue was. I have placed it between Brocade Blue and Brilliant Blue...also all by itself.

That brings us to Purple Posy. I do love that color too! Very pale purple that is neither bluish or reddish. I don't see any gray in it. It goes nicely with the Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather, but it is closer in color to Lavender Lace. It could fit well in either place.

SU color history and colors by ROYGBIV are both updated in the files above.

THANK YOU, Diane, for your efforts and for your fantastic descriptions! It is immensely helpful to me and your description of two of the new colors has allowed me to take them off my "wish list" with a sign of relief (we can't afford it all! LOL).

THANK YOU again!

Blessings,
Chrissy

I've updated the color groups by ROYGBIV and the SU color history lists to include colors as of June 2020.

Coming soon will be a listing of all SU colors by Hue/Saturation/Lightness. This will list all colors by their hues on a 360 degree circle. These are tested with a color sensor. The listing will be an alternative way of showing the papers by color.

Thank you, Dianne! I do the colors because of my obsessiveness about color in general. So I really do it for me...and then I can't help but share.

It does make for an interesting life when I say to someone that their lovely sweater is a beautiful Bermuda Bay color. LOL!

Your chart sounds very helpful and look forward to how you have done this throughout SU history. That is amazing, and I have so many of those  older SU colors and reinkers that I am curious to see how close these colors run to the newer ones. I am now on more of a fixed budget when it comes to getting new supplies and when I have hundreds of ink pads as it is, it would certainly help my finances. LOL

Attached is the PDF for SU colors in hue degree order. These are tested numbers, so they should be pretty accurate. (if you really want to know, I think it is the CIELAB2 degree order)

However, you will likely find some "weird" things...they're reality but something you never thought of before. Like brown is just darker orange. Or blacks and grays being blended from colors with or without white.

Have fun with this file. If you like your colors in rainbow order, you might want to use the ROYGBIV file instead.

Will the Prisma Colors Matched to SU colors chart be updated? I use that chart frequently and really appreciate all the time and effort placed in making is such a great resource. I would like to see the comparisons to the in-colors updated if possible. Thank you for all of your efforts and for sharing with everyone!

I'm still working on updating my files. I have a new computer (and I changed platforms) so still dealing with the learning curve. And I'm teaching right now, so my time is a little bit limited. I will move these up the priority list and get the revised versions posted soon.

Thanks For the info!
Love seeing the RGB codes on this chart, what does the s stand for in sRGB?
Am I presuming right that the RGB code will always be the same,
even when using ROYBGIV order?

I should probably change my files to rainbow colours, but for some reason years ago I started with the yellows, think maybe SU had it that way in the book way back then or I could see a break between yellow and greens, of course through the years now colours were added that tend to go either yellow or green, lol.

Yes, RGB is how the computer creates a color with proportions of pixels. It stays the same, regardless of how you arrange it.

sRGB means standard RGB. It is the current standard, and has been for multitudes of years. My using it is to indicate that this value is based on those standards. RGB, technically, is Adobe RGB, used back when (like 199 for the proportions of pixels used in Adobe programs. It is no longer used.

Today RGB is often used generically. That's why I indicate the sRGB so it is known that I am using an industry standard.

And you can arrange colors any way you like...whether by visual look, by sRGB, by HSL...there's all kinds of standards.

2Tibetans....I think that I have updated on my computer...but I thought I had posted those. Obviously not! I have to lay part of my slowness on a non-functioning colorimeter app, two new computers in the household, and my laptop is a big change to Mac. Also to me not double-checking. I'll make sure those are all done, and get them up! Thanks for the reminder.

I agree. I am anxiously waiting for Diane’s updated list. I am working on updating my craft room and I love her ROYGBIV list.

Thank you Diane. I still search for this thread at least once a year and I am grateful for the most recent updates. It is easy enough to fold in the few new In Colors if they are not yet listed. Super grateful. I just sent this to a customer because she bought all new Stamp n Storage units

Kind regards, Lela

Hi Diane, I'm just wondering if you have shared the updated ROYGBIV list since June 2020 and I have missed it?

I haven't updated on here...shame on me. I will get both 2021 and 2022 done this week or next (I have some lesson plans that are telling me I better get working on them so that has to come first).

Thanks for the reminder.
