I also thought of putting a clear acrylic coat on top to help seal it. I used the spray kind. NOT a good idea! It made the paper want to curl up.

I did the same thing and had the same problem. VERY frustrating! Then when I took a class, she didn't modge podge at all, but just used spray on adhesive, but I wasn't as satisfied with the results...
