if you want to paint, use some gesso first - its a primer used on artist canvas & works real well as a primer on other surfaces as well....no guarantee, but a much better chance of your paint not...

i recently had a "duh moment" with the blender pen/pencils combo - i'm prolly the last to figure this out: rather than color the pencil on the paper and then blend, rub the blender pen on the pencil...

modge podge should work just fine... is to cover the canvas with the stuff, lay your paper down, smooth w/say a brayer, and then cover the top w/more modge podge.

gel medium also works...
