My poor lonely mixed media supplies have been feeling neglected. You know, the pastes, gesso, and other fun stuff. So I've decided to really make an effort this year to incorporate some of them into other areas of creativity. Saturday I added some clear and pearl texture/embossing paste to a few cards I had made the day before, and they turned out great.
Does anyone else do this? Are there any other ideas that you plan on trying this year? Please share, and Happy New Year!
For most of my life, I considered "mixed media" an art form only for the artistic (something I am NOT). I was one of those kids who could not color within the lines and any watercolor project I attempted turned mostly muddy brown. Then I found YouTube!
I made my first (and only) mixed media art journal in 2016. It was great fun and wonderful way to learn what mediums work together and what don't. I still have several blank pages in that journal and I plan to fill them with projects focused on The Worst Year in modern history.
Three 12x12 canvases are collecting dust in a closet. I plan to turn them into lightly textured, spring-colored mixed media pieces that I can hang on my bedroom wall.
Other ideas include a heavily textured jewelry box and book cover (minus pages) to hold a few finished art journals.

I'm in, Dina!
Can't say I will take part in every challenge and won't guarantee that I'll post everything I do. But I will plan to take part in as many of the challenges as I can this year. I'm already thinking about the "snowy day" challenge. I just need to clean of a work spot and unbox a few more supplies.
Hi and Happy New Year Everyone! I made this list and posted a while back, but thought I would post it here again since it might be useful for mixed media newbies, or as a "jog the brain" tool for regulars. It doesn't include the basic materials, just the add-on stuff, junk, accessories, ephemera, etc.. I find it useful when I know I need to add something extra, instead of hunting around in my huge stash or getting lost on the internet looking for ideas when I want to be crafting.
I don't know why it doesn't show for you. You may have to download the PDF file to your computer to view it and print it if you wish. I will add a JPEG version and hope you can see that without having to download it. Let me know if there is still a problem.
Thank you so much for the pdf file! You have some wonderful ideas there. I want to make some mixed media tags, and just this week I was typing a list of things to use on my computer. The pleats caught my eye first thing - wish I'd thought of it!

I am so pleased somebody else is finding it useful. Thank you for letting me know. I was going to do up a list of "stuff" to use on masculine cards because I always struggle with those. I gravitate towards making the girly cards with flowers, lace and bling, etc.. Would anyone be interested in me uploading that when I get it done?
Scrapjanny were you able to see the list in JPeg form or download the PDF? Just wondering.
OK. Here is the list I compiled for masculine ideas. I should wait until tomorrow morning to post and check it one more time...I'm kind of blurry and cross-eyed from all the lines and columns and dashes. I have never been good at typing and I am still learning word processing on a computer. But at least it's neater than hand writing.

As far as mixed media goes, I'm hoping to remember to use my stencil pastes and not just ink blending when I stencil a card front. I'm also thinking I might try adding perfect pearls to some plain stencil paste to see what effect I get. Or sprinkling it on top of wet paste. Hmmm.
As far as guys, my husband who's bachelors degree from way-back-when is in botany, always says that guys do like flowers, too. Just maybe not with lots of pink and glitter and lace. Natural, botanical images are great, tho!

Me too! I'm also adding glitter and spray ink to my pastes to change the color a little.
