Okay so, I have a gelli plate that has not been out of the package (yet) and some acrylic paints ( slow drying golden ones) with some golden stuff you add to regular acrylic paints to make them dry slower... so, I am reading tutorials. ( thinking I may have to do this in the kitchen to be closer to a sink.
anyways, someone is using "deli paper" and I found this on amazon. (did not order it) but, about 1/2 of the deli paper items that come up if you just search for that seem to be some variation of "wax paper"
so would regular wax paper from a kitchen work? or is this what I found something "special?"
My understanding is this is dry wax paper, like you'd get at a bakery, which is not the same as household wax paper. That's why the paint etc. sticks. I can't wait to try it! I think you will love playing on the Gelli plate once you get going! The Golden Open acrylics are fantastic on it.
We don't have Sam's clubs in Oregon as far as I know but, that is similar to Costco right? ( I will check there and the cash & carry next time thanks ladies!!
Good luck finding it, I have not been able to do so. Locally I have checked Walmart, Sam's, Costco, every grocery type store, Dollar stores and other discount stores and have not been able to find deli paper.
I actually wanted to use it for it's intended purpose as well as for crafting. We buy lunch meat at the bulk stores and then I break it down into smaller portions when we get home. I've been using regular was paper but the stacks still stick to each other.
I love the idea of being able to decorate it and when adhered to something in your journal it is somewhat transparent and what is underneath shows too but am beginning to think I am never going to find out if it really works that way.
I've used deli paper. It's different from regular waxed paper. It's thinner and less "waxy." It's the paper they wrap sandwiches in, and I don't think you can buy it in supermarkets.
I'm supposed to be in the area where my Costco is mid-week, weather permitting. I'll check again but so far I've only seen pre-cut foil or parchment paper at mine.

You know how much Costco likes to move stuff around. :rolleyes: I found it not by the foil and parchment paper but over near the paper bags and restaurant supplies.

Don't even have to be a member and shipping is free. I'm not a huge fan of Walmart/Sam's but on this item I probably would go ahead and get it for cost and shipping.
I bought a box of CostCo deli paper about 5 years ago to use as a funnel for embossing powders, glitter, etc. I'm down to my last few sheets. In my CostCo it has always been stored by the foil & plastic wrap. I better pick up another box and dig out the unused geli plate and go look up those tutorials. : )
Patti Tolley Parrish uses deli paper that is not folded/creased which is good if you're working on something large and you don't want that line in the deli paper which can affect your designs. I searched Patti's blog and YouTube quickly right now to see if I could get the source for the uncreased deli paper, but didn't find it. If you're interested and have the time, I know that Patti provided the source info for the deli paper that she uses either on her blog or YouTube channel or you can always email her.

Wow! Didn't know my deli paper was so hard to find. I got a whole bunch of it from a friend years ago and haven't used it up yet. I'll have to write and thank her for such a precious gift! Thanks to all who have suggested sources.
Also want to mention that deli paper can be used, but don't use regular waxed paper. It could stick to your Gelli plate and damage the surface. The Gelli plate is an amazing tool...love, love, love mine. Deli paper, when adhered with some kind of gel medium or Mod Podge is almost translucent. Have fun!
I have used DELI paper many times on my gelli plate. Used in a gelli plate class as well. I bought some at Costco, however, the paper is thin, and pulls prints but they are not as good as when I used Kabinet Wax deli paper.
I took a class online with Julie Fei Fan Balzer. Go to her web site and check out. It's not expensive and WELL worth it. That's were I learned about it. I think it's $10-$15 and you have lifetime classes. It's part of her Getting started series.
Kabinet Wax deli paper can be purchased at AMAZON. It's worth the money. It has more weight to it and I find that I can cut it apart and use it on anything. Art journals, card front, die cut it, it's much better. It may cost more but believe me, it's much better than buying a million boxes and Costco and not liking it.

Rubberinker, that is so very generous of you but since I don't actually have a Gelli Plate yet it wouldn't be fair to you. Now that winter is over hopefully I can get to the local paper crafts store to check them out and finally order one.
I did go by Costco yesterday and looked up and down every aisle, my CC simply does not carry deli paper. Maybe I'll get around to driving to another one to look for it at some point or maybe I just need to add one of the favorite brands mentioned here to my wish list at Amazon. I still need to order a new cutting track for my trimmer anyway and can't find it locally either.

this is the exact paper I found at my costco. it was two of these boxes cling wrapped together for the package and it was 11 something for both boxes. it was in the paperplates & napkins isle at mine. if this helps anyone else...
so, tonight I opened my second plate ( still have not taken the first out of its package) I bought a 6" one later in between the hunt for the deli paper.
and what I learned is... I could use a few more colors of paint... and ferns pressed and dried in 2003 are pretty dang flat so they don't leave as much texture to print from as the ones that must have been recently pressed I seen in a book :mrgreen:
(its a clear piece of flexible (something gelli) that you can put paint ( or what ever) on and make patterns into the wet paint and pull a print off of it with paper you press into the wet paint.

I found this at a local art store and am really happy with it: Bienfang Parchment 100 Fine Tracing Paper - BLICK art materials . It is parchment tracing paper and I love it.
It is thicker that deli paper and has NO wax in it, so takes various mediums well. Just be sure to read packaging info before buying parchment tracing paper. They are not all created equal, some brands are much less transparent than others. This one says 70% transparency in the description and when I lay it down on a bible page I can read every word underneath which is amazing since the type font in my journaling bible is pretty small.
It may not be as cheap as a package of deli paper but I am happy with it and think it's a better option for me.

Daddy Van's beeswax to increase deli paper transparency
I have not tried this yet myself (despite having both the Kabinetwax deli paper and the Daddy Van's beeswax LOL...........), however I have seen others do this and I am impressed by the increased transparency of their deli paper, so I will be checking this out for myself in the not-too-distant future.
I attended a class yesterday where we used deli paper and I wasn't amazed. It was okay but I think the velum I already have or the tracing paper I purchased are just as good if not better options for me. No folds in the sheet to contend with and no wax that would interfere with some media/techniques.
On a side note I decided to finish a tip in page I had started on velum a while back so I could put it in my bible. Wrote my lettering on graph paper and once it was "perfect" I traced it onto my picture and colored it in. THEN discovered my words were upside down, well crud .....
I use deli paper all the time. Julie Balzer got me hooked on it for collage. She has a video tutorial about it; even if you don't take the class, her video telling about the class is interesting Getting Started with Deli Paper | Balzer Designs Classroom
Just found out about it from a bunch of women who do mixed media, collage, Gelli plating. Patti Parrish talked about it on her live ustream webcast this past weekend. 12x12, under $14.00 for 1,000 sheets.
