Default MIX134 SMASH IT

Challenge Title: SMASH IT
Hostess: MARILYNN
Keyword: MIX134
Gallery for today's challenge: MIX134

I know that when it comes to mixed media, there are all sorts of excuses why not to try it. Now if one of your excuses is ...

"It is TOO expensive to buy mixed media products!"

Well, you won't be able to use that excuse. for today's challenge.

My challenge for you is to do a project using
smashed flower technique. (also called pounded flower technique.)
It was a Technique lovers challenge a long time ago. TLC279

Here is a video I made showing some of the flowers I smashed.

<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HGMlgBYyrXs?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="480"></iframe>

I can already hear some more excuses forming...
"I don't have flowers?" AND
"I don't have an embossing machine like a cuttlebug?"

Don't have flowers? Well then, smash anything organic. Grass, leaves etc...

Don't have an embossing machine? Well then try this variation.

<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8MtBF0HXvwQ?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="480"></iframe>

Remember for your project to be mixed media you need to have at least 2 different art media on your project. Counting the smashed flowers as one of your mediums, you need to add at least one more. That could be as easy as stamping a sentiment with ink.

See, no excuses not to try mixed media today.

Remember to use the correct keyword MIX134 when uploading your project.
Copying and pasting the keyword is suggested to avoid typos. I'm excited to see all your smashing creations!!

Marilynn, thank you for the challenge. Here is my card. Gomphrena bg.

I actually smashed these flowers on cs and watercolor paper last Fall. So it was fun that you had this challenge.

Wow! Cool technique!!! Can you believe I don't have any flowers? Gasp. I do have LOTS of leaves though. We are loaded with every kind of leaf. I can't wait to try this out.

Your video is so pretty and your wildflower samples gorgeous!!

Thanks for the challenge! This technique is addictive. I have numerous sheets for other cards and will try some more this weekend. Here's my card Flower Smash by Covington Crafter - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
I was able to fit this into this week's color and sketch challenge too.

Oh my goodness, I love this technique! Every available surface is covered in "smashed" card fronts. I'm waiting for things to dry while we have dinner, and then I'm going to see what I can make. Thanks for the prompt!

Default Is there a fixative I can use?

I made 2 yesterday, one with 2 little rose buds, and one with marigolds. I love roses, but the marigolds turned out the best. The dark seeds that were pressed are wonderful with the orange/yellow. I would like to keep the bits and pieces that stayed on the papers, is there something I can use to spray on them to keep them on the paper. I look off the large pieces. I tried a piece of parchment paper, but it wasn't clear enough. I was hoping there was a spay fixative I could use. Thanks so much for a great new to me method.
Hugs, Nancy

I finally finished this. I didn't have much luck with flowers, but I did get a good leaf image. Here's my card.

Here's a beautiful card from a first-time uploader - Stephanie. I've been helping her learn to navigate SCS. She joined two years ago and finally uploaded her first card for this challenge. I know you will all welcome her. She did a beautiful card! Thanks and hugs!

After learning that many of my "plant sandwiches" were way too juicy, I finally ended up with 3-4 usable backgrounds. Here is the one I posted on my blog today. A New Song: Super Impressed
