Marker storage

Does anyone have an inexpensive storage for markers? I just picked up all of the spectrum noir markers and I know its best to lay them on there side but I need some ideas.

Cut down a few 1/2 gallon plastic milk jugs and stack and glue them together in a pyramid arrangement.
They are sort of square so they will lay flat.

I bought an old DVD holder at a thrift store for $2. I cut corrugated cardboard to fit in the slots and taped some cardstock to the back side to keep the Spectrum Noir pens from sliding out. It works well for holding the pens flat without other pens stacked on top. That way when I pull a pen out, I can see the slot it came from and put it back. If you stack them in milk jugs or other deep containers, one on top of another, when you pull one out the others that were on top collapse down.

I hope that description made sense.

I bought square vinyl pen holders at the dollar store and stacked and glued them together. Not as big as the half gallon containers but they still topple out if you don't hold the rest of the stack in while you pull one out.

I love the DVD rack idea!

I already have my toilet paper rolls; now i just need to cover them! you can prob glue them down on the bottom and then store the box on its side

I thought it might be helpful to post my $2.00 thrift store holder for Spectrum Noir markers (plus the few Copics I own). Yes, the holder is curved--I did not use a fish-eye lens on the camera. ;)

I used double layers of corrugated cardboard (cut up cardboard box) glued together just to give each "shelf" added strength. I glued (with Score Tape) a couple of pieces of white cardstock on the back of the holder to keep all the markers from sliding too far back and to make them all even in the front.

In one of the photos I took the top two rows of markers out just to better show what I meant about the cardboard shelves.

It may not be pretty, but it works great!

I have seen another done the same but using the thin cd cases as the "shelves". I really wanted to use the cases that have the egg crate florescent lighting cover so many Copic users are making but the Spectrum Noirs are too fat to fit in the holes of the lattice, : ( . I am still looking for another alternative that is similar that they will fit in to use.

Another SCS *enabler* put a link in another post for Consumer Crafts for storage unit for Embossing Folders. While there, I saw they had a Marker Storage Case (showing the Spectrum Noir) - holds 36. It was a cute Zipper Bag that holds them on their side and it was marked down to $3.97! Shipping was $1.97 for $25 and over.

I store mine in a couple of plastic boxes w/locking lids. Cause I take mine to crops.

I use a rectangular basket and inserted a grid made out of foam core board. I can get just the size I need and as a bonus, it's quite economical. You can probably get a basket on sale or with a coupon for less than $10 and the foam core board is only a dollar or two.

This does not work for the Spectrum Noir markers, they are a hair too big...

I bought this storage box at Wal-Mart for $7...I had the grid from another project...You can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's...You can cut it with kitchen sheers or tin snips...A piece of grid about and inch off the bottom and another piece about 2 inches from the top...

This looks awesome. What dept. in Lowe's is this grid? What is the actual use of it? I need one.

I have that grid and one of the deep artbin boxes and my copics are hard to get out. They go in sort of sideways and the lids come off coming out.

I just read on pinterest where a lady had her hubby cut gutter down spout into 5 1/2"
pieces sprayed them and glued them together. They look great! She had $12.50 in material.

I made this marker storage from an insert from a box of blood collection tubes from my clinic. Just had to find a box that was deep enough to hold the markers and the right size to hold the insert. Then I covered it with leopard wrapping paper to make it pretty I made two, which will be enough to fit all the spectrum noir markers, once I get them (each holds 100). Best of all, it didn't cost me anything!

So, if any of you know anyone that works in a hospital or doctor's office, you might be able to get your hands on a couple of these!

Does anyone drink "Crystal Light?" I drink the tea that comes 6 individual packets that makes 2 quarts. These plastic containers can be laid on the side & glued together & make great containers for markers. I think I saw this on Pinterst.

I originally posted this awhile back and I've added to it since then, so now there are 7 containers. Cover with patterned paper. Save the lids, cutting out the middles, to strengthen the openings. Use the Crop-A-Dile to rivet the containers together.

Close To My Heart boxes are terrific if you travel to crops with your pens. The boxes with handles that are intended for their envelopes of clear stamps.

I have over 100 Copics, which I use all the time. I finally bought a very inexpensive- maybe $3- set of 6 plastic drinking cups at Big Lots. I divided up the pens into color category, and I can grab one cup at a time when I'm working at the desk. And the cups are 5" tall, one inch shorter than the pens, so they stand up nicely but I can see the colors and numbers easily.

Here is the marker box I made a while back. It uses 2 20x30 sheets of foam core. It was from the SCS forum "Copic Marker Storage" Post #12 by 1chrystal.
BTW I have more markers now. (Not as many as I'd like. haha)

I tried several ways to store my copics, but wasnt happy with anything i tried.
I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond one day looking for something else and came across clear plastic containers that can be stack on top of each other.
They are wine bottle holders. $7.99 ea.
Each holder holds 35 copics.

I used empty Crystal Lite containers, laid them on their sides and used a glue gun to fuse them together. You can have a little cubby for each color group and make it as large as you like. I used a thick, striped ribbon and tied the "pile" in a bow. It was the perfect length for the markers to be able to grab them. (My markers are Stampin' Up!) Crystal Lite comes in two different heights if your markers are a different brand.

I don't have the Spectrum Noir markers but with my Copic markers we use the tubes that you buy Crystal Lite packs in, or any of the off brands can work too, but we fill each with the different color markers and then carry them all in a rubbermaid container if we want to take them with us. I'm thinking you get 8-10 markers in the tubes. We like the oval shaped ones best. The rectangle ones narrow at one end and you get less in them, but either will work. This has worked out well for us and we keep the special copic paper in the rubbermaid container too so it's all together in one space seperate from our regular white stamping paper we use without copics

My hubby made my marker holder using 2" PVC pipe cut to 5" lengths. We used an existing plexi-glas box that was made for another project (no longer being used) and added a 1/8" molding across the bottom-front to slightly angle the front upward, so the makers stay in place. Total cost about $2.00 and some sweat equity. Ten feet of pipe equals 24 marker holders. The 5" is the size of my Copic, but other lengths could be cut to match your markers.

This looks great and I just happen to have a rectangular basket. We just got some snow so this will be a good indoor project for today - thanks for sharing your solution!!

Currently I'm using the plastic storage units that Copic sells, but I don't like them because (1) my markers are stored vertically and I can't easily see the color names/numbers on the end caps and (2) I am too impatient to have to put each marker back into its own little slot and (3) I have to use three of the units to accomodate my markers and I really want all of my markers in one container.

im just wondering if it might work to put a matching grid on the bottom of the box or to glue one into the middle. you might also try gluing the top one along the sides so it wont slide around

I love using the Crystal lite containers for my Copic markers. I have each color family in one or two containers depending on how many I have. I've arranged them in a 3 tiered magazine rack that is angled perfectly so they are at a slant not straight up. If I need to take them to a class or crop, I've saved the lids in a plastic bag and just close them up and pop them in a carrying case. Easy peasy! Plus I'm recycling/repurposing as well! I also keep my Spica pens this way as well, so my markers are all together. It works for me! I may have posted this on my blog a year or so ago.

The one I have is 2 grids. One on top and one almost to the bottom and they are sandwiched in between 2 small pieces of pvc. Will get a pix up tomorrow. The problem is bringing them out. The holes are a bit tight for my liking.
