Default Help before I get buried!

Hi everyone! In need of some suggestions.

First let me describe my situation: I travel with my husband. Right now we go from motel to motel but are in the process of getting an RV, can't wait, this packing and unpacking is driving me nuts! So I have pretty much come up with an easy system of packing and transporting and even storing in the RV and home. Sort of a grab and go system. Everything goes into the 12x12 boxes (some have dividers for tools, inks and such) which get stacked up one on top of the other and my daughter got me a collapsible hand cart to move them from point A-B (when I get this completed and set up again I'll post pictures). Now my only thing I'm trying to get figured out now is my paper stash. I'm thinking of cutting them down ahead of time and getting more into each box that way. Right now most of my stuff is 12x12 cardstock/paper. My question is this; good or bad idea and what "most used" sizes should I cut down to? Or do you have any other ideas for the paper. One last note, I'm sort of new to all of this (stampin up/papercraft) and have tons to learn! Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!

I'd guess that what you do with the paper will depend on what you mainly craft- card making or scrapping? As a card maker, 12 x12 paper would get cut down to a max of A5 size for me. That will cover the front of an A4 folder piece of cardstock, and I could trim down from there if needed. Also, it would depend on the design- is it suitable to use in smaller pieces? Some designs are too large to work well. Cardstock would get cut down & folded to an assortment of most used card sizes.

Guess that would help to tell you what I'm doing! ;) Told you I was still learn'n Anyway, card making mainly. What would you list as the main card sizes? I'm thinking of cutting them down to about 4 sizes maybe, then I can divide the 12x12 box better to store them in.

I do something similar with card-making supplies I carry to my grandkids' homes for stamping.

I have cut both colored cardstock and white cardstock down to card-base sizes, and scored them for folding. I do mostly A2 sizes...half sheet of 8.5 x 11 cut either way. I also have white and colored paper cut to quarter sheet sizes.

Then my patterned paper (originally 12 x 12) is cut to 6 x 6 size. It could be cut to 4 x 6 instead. Either one is a good size to cut for use on the front of your cards.

Just be sure to save space for scraps!

How do you "divide" the 12x12 boxes? Do you mean the plastic ones that fit 12x12 paper but are about 4-6" deep?

Oh thank you!! Just what I needed. I plan on using foam board to make dividers up for the 12x12 Iris Plastic boxes. I was going to download a picture but I don't know how, sorry

Ok I got it figured out. Here is an "idea" of what I'm planning on making the dividers. I just threw this together so I could post a picture. It will look "much" better when I do it right. ;)

Ok I don't have it figured out yet! Let me make that smaller! I didn't know it was going to be that big!

I mainly make cards with folded A4 card, so thats A5 size, 5x5 or 6x6 square(which you'd get from 12x12) and then roughly 5 1/2 x 4".

I like that idea of making compartments.

I posted on my blog a while ago about most commonly used card sizes: Inking with Brenda Lee: Most Commonly Used Card Sizes

If I were traveling and taking my supplies, I think it's a great idea to have card bases precut, but also remember the layers.

Go to youtube and search flash cards Connie Stewart or Simply Simple Stamping. She has 1.0 and 2.0 versions flash cards. She starts with card base and two pieces of cardstock and has many ideas using just that card stock. Amazing to me that so many ideas can come from those three simple pieces.

How big is your RV going to be? What sort of storage will you have available to you?

We are looking into getting a 34-38ft 5th wheel. I found one that has a bunk room in the back that would work PERFECT for a craft storage room, but the only draw back to that is we end up with a very small living area. Now that is based on what we have seen so far. We are going to an RV show this weekend so we can check out everything! We don't need it for about another month, month and a half so we have time to get some really good ideas as to what will work for what we will have going on.

For our american friends, uk a5 is approx twice the size of an american a2 card, so for you it would be a whole sheet of 8.5x11 folded in half to make a 8.5x5.5 card.

Our caravan had a triple bunk in the end of the living space. We took out the mattresses and use the middle one as a desk. Great for craft and study.

I am a camper and find my easiest route is to preplan my card making. Do you use 'pinterest' it has a ton of card making ideas; you can put the ideas into folders, print off that card design and take along what supplies are needed for each project. Takes a lot of guessing out of what to create when you are gone, also.

This was what I use, altho, I got mine at Walmart and paid MUCH less.
Amazon.com - Christmas Ornament Storage Box - Holiday Decoration Storage Containers

I also use a smaller size, and stack 9 high (3 sets). Snapware Snap 'N Stack 6-Inch by 9-Inch Storage Container : Amazon.com : Home & Kitchen
I have different necessities in each container. Sissors, pencils, small inks, bling, etc in each one, and it helps keep everything together and mobil.

I think you have a great idea going!

I use this for my embelishments and tools. Plano 1354 Tackle Box Tackle Storage System - Fishing Tackle Shop

In the top section I store scissors, tape, scalpel etc.
In the internal boxes I have embelishments, sorted by colour (these have now multiplied to 8 boxes which I alternate depending on what I want to take  ).

Perhaps for a longer trip this box might work. https://www.google.com.au/shopping/p...d=0CMYBEKkrMAg . I could see the inks going in the little door to the right and stamps being stacked in the top section directly above it, with heaps of room for other necessities.

Markers currently live in a large makeup case. The largest of these - http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...B,!~~60_35.JPG

Paper is a little more tricky. Easy to store but if you cut it to the wrong size...
I use the plastic sleeves to store 12x12 paper. The ones you used to get from Creative memories had pockets on the front for co-ordinating smaller pieces and were excellent for taking a variety of sizes. I'm sure there is something similar still available (perhaps Stampin Up?).

The paper, my small toolbox, cutter and a steel ruler all fit in my scrapping trolley with room for some inks and stamps around the tool box. The markers sit on top.

Hope that gives you some more ideas.

Well clearly the craft storage space is top priority. LoL

Years ago, we camped in an RV and I took things along with me. Of course, I didn't have nearly the amount of stuff I do now. I would pre-plan my projects and take them in poly envelopes I picked up at M's for about $1 each. Then I took a small tote of general things (adhesive, scissors) to work with. We did have a triple bunkhouse RV, so had space to store extra stuff on the top bunk. The bottom bunk was for the dogs.

OP - are you living full time in your RV? Or are you just looking to be more portable?
