I got a RTA set of 4 drawers from the hardware and left the base out of the third drawer down. Then joined third and fourth drawers with some pine 1*1 offcuts at the corners. I left both sets of drawer runners on. I modified some hanging files by taking the hanger off one side of one and sticking it to half of another so they could take 12*12. There is a tutorial for this somewhere but I couldn't tell you where.
You need to look carefully at the construction and spacing of the drawers but with a bit of research you can pick them up pretty cheaply.

I guess I'm just cheap. I got a few of the medium sized priority boxes they have at the post office. I put them together and then cut one end so I can lift the lid up to see the paper. I then used paper to wrap them with so they look better and labeled them. i.e.; Christmas DSP, Birthday, etc. Not only to they work to hold the paper, keep it clean and light free, but there's enough room for me to put four fingers in to pull it off the shelf. Cheap but effective and not bad to look at.
Tammy that sounds really interesting. Could you possibly post pictures so we could see it in action? K. Benko those are amazing drools but out of my price range for now. Maybe someday as a really nice Christmas/Birthday present.
