PKP006 Technique (03/21/18)
Challenge: embrace the black & white photo
Keyword: PKP006
Hostess: Melissa (mollymoo951)
Welcome to the wonderful world of pocket pages! An introduction to the challenge can be found here. <--click for details
The black & white photos of today are a far cry from the black & white photos from years gone by. With all the color, why choose to use black & white?
- As a design element. Black & white photos can be striking as a focal point. It is very elegant, clean and crisp.
- To create cohesiveness in a group of photos. Sometimes a black & white photo just goes better with the layout than a color photo. Maybe the color in the photo is not the right color for the group of photos or the product you wish to use; a change to black & white makes it go together much better.
- To improve photo quality. If the only picture you have is blurry, sometimes changing the photo from color to black & white improves the quality, making the blur less noticeable.
- To decrease the visual clutter. Sometimes changing a photo from color to black & white will decrease the visual clutter and make a distracting background less noticeable.
Your challenge this week is to embrace the black & white photo. You can do this by:
- Doing a mix of color and black & white photos in one weekly / monthly spread. OR
- Doing an entire weekly / monthly spread in black & white photos.
I've done both, with satisfactory results. Looking forward to seeing what you create.
Create your pocket pages and come back, share with us in the gallery. Post a link to your project in this thread so we will be sure to see it! Copy and paste the keywords above when posting your project to the gallery.
