Seattle/South Sound Shoebox Swap & CardsForHeroes.org Collection October 24th, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Kent, WA
Hey, South Sound Stampers! With some great shoebox swaps going on north of Seattle, Nikki (nikkis) and I (kelbelpcs) wanted to offer the same excitement south of the city.
We have room for 25 people (over 18 years of age) with each person bringing swap packets for 24 people to make. There is a $7 non-refundable fee per person for expenses, including lunch, coffee/water, and prizes, due no later than the 5:00 PM, October 15th cut-off. Please bring a small snack to supplement lunch and feed every woman's need for carbs, as well as a beverage, if coffee and water aren't your style!
Once you've indicated an interest in attending, I will PM you with the payment information.
Finally, Demonstrators, because of SCS rules, this cannot be a “party” type of event. But, what you do in the parking lot after the swap is your business. (Well, within reason!)
DETAILS:
• This will be a "No Holiday" themed Shoebox Swap: seasonal, general greeting, birthday, etc., are all good choices for this swap. Full cards, please. Envelopes aren’t required, but it's nice to include them so swappers can stamp them right then to match the card. 3-D items are also OK! • There are no vendor requirements for this swap.
THINGS TO BRING:
• Create packets - most people use some sort of baggie - of pre-cut, pre-punched materials for 24 swappers. • Make sure you provide all tools/supplies in your shoebox to make your swap item, including brads, glue dots, inks, etc. (Be sure to include a few extra of things in case someone makes an irredeemable mistake!) If your item requires multiple inks, it would be great if you could bring stamp cleaner and/or a cleaning pad to help minimize ink disasters! LABEL YOUR PRODUCTS. • Add written directions for your card in each packet. It's helpful if the directions include your name and a way to contact you if a question comes up after-the-fact. • Make two (2) samples of your item, one for the table with your shoebox and one for the contest. • Bring, or make at the swap, two cards to send to our troops via CardsForHereos.org. If you're feeling generous, we'll happily accept even more cards! (Please include envelopes with these cards. We will get them to the people who distribute them.) • Bring a small, portable tool kit with stamping necessities: adhesive, scissors, bone folder, etc., to have with you throughout the day. • We will provide generic nametags, but if you've already made a really cool one, feel free to use that instead. • There will be an optional gift exchange. If you choose to participate, please bring something with a value of $10.00. It does not need to be stamping related, and it's better if it is not wrapped/bagged.
DIRECTIONS:
The swap is being held at Kent Fire Station 73, which is close to I-5. Since we'll all be coming from different places, it's probably best to go to Mapquest for specific directions closer to the actual swap date.
Please DO NOT contact the fire station for information. I will send out a contact number the week of the swap to use in case anyone is/becomes directionally impaired!
The actual address is 26512 Military Road South, Kent, WA 98032

I am waiting to see if my Mother-In-Law is coming that week -- but if not, I would REALLY like to come. I will find out ASAP, but her plans are still up in the air. Could I sign up to save a spot and let you know just as soon as I find out? Is that possible --- ooohhhh... I really, really want to come!
Julie
This sounds like fun... what time will the event start?

Handy hint: The Get-It-Together forum is a long way down the list and not one of the places everyone checks regularly. If all of you gals who are attending would put a link to this thread in your signature, your posts in General Stamping and other forums would alert other gals to this fun event. It would help Nikki and Kelli to spread the word.
Thanks Garnet . . . you are so wonderful! I think I got my signature updated!! Yeah . . . now to go plaster it around! Have a great day - stay out of the rain!! Nikki

Nikki had emailed me a while back and I tried to find the thread...tonight I tried one more time and here y'all are!
My mom will be in town that day, and I don't think I can make her sit through a day of crafting...but I'm definitely going to try to at least stop by! I have a scrapbook filled with pictures and letters from our heroes and will bring it by if I come - I'd love to meet you ladies!!!
Sandy (pres of Operation Write Home - formerly known as Cards for Heroes!)
We had SO MUCH FUN today at the Shoebox Swap in Bellingham. Everyone who has even the slightest inkling of attending this one in Seattle/South Sound really MUST make it a priority.
Right now, I am very, very tired. But also very happy that everything went smoothly.
There's still spaces for the Seattle/South Sound Shoebox Swap
There's still plenty of room for this swap; please come and bring a friend along! Don't forget the cut-off date for payment is Thursday, October 15! I will e-mail everyone an update of numbers and contact information on Friday, October 16th, so you can prepare your swap packets.
Looking forward to stamping together!

Oh, where, oh where can it be?
It'll pay for food; it'll guarantee fun,
Oh, where, oh where, can it be?
:rolleyes:Need the address again?? Friday is the due date for payment.
Look for a PM from me on Friday with the final count details - we're looking forward to stamping with you!

I think I PM'd everyone on the list I haven't yet received payment from. The cut-off for receiving the check is Friday.
Please drop that puppy into the mail if you haven't done so already, so everyone can be assured a firm count from me Friday evening.
LOOKING FORWARD TO STAMPING WITH YOU -

Cards for Heroes (now known as Operation Write Home)
To all attending the Seattle/South Sound shoebox swap on October 24th, don't forget the card and envelope for this organization. The person who manages this organization will be stamping with us and can take the cards with her to be put to use right away!
Looking forward to stamping with you -

As I was designing my swap card today, I was thinking about embellishments and Operation Write Home. I went to their website (http://www.operationwritehome.org/) and found this information:
1. NO GLITTER: The rule of thumb is: does it flake or sprinkle off the card when touched? And not just touched lightly, but give it a good rubbing and see; if your hand is shimmery, do not send it.
2. GENERAL CARDS WORK WELL: General cards—both masculine and feminine designs—are most adaptable to any occasion; they are perfect for a hello or can be sent for get well, sympathy, weddings, anniversaries, babies, or lots of other letter-writing reasons. Miss You cards are frequently requested.
3. A2 CARDS BEST: The preferred size for cards for our boxes are A2 cards - 5.5" x 4.25". These are achieved simply by using a piece of cardstock cut in half and folded. (Either direction, a vertically-opening or horizontally-opening card, both shown at right).
4. HANDMADE CARDS ONLY
Check out the website for more information!
;)
