Basicially, you design a card that will take 10 minutes or less to create. Then, you will make a card kit that consists of all the materials to make said card. You will cut your card stock for each kit and put the card stock and any embellishments into a sandwhich baggie for each kit. You'll need 40 such kits.
Rules have always been to use quality card stock (i.e. Stampin' Up!, MFT, Papertrey Ink, etc.), quality stamps (no dollar spot stamps - see FAQ documentment attached to this post for guidelines), and quality ink.
If you need some examples, use the Advance Search in the gallery and search by 'north texas card swap' and you'll find some from our past swaps.
I hope this helps!
One other requirement is fast drying ink (i.e. no pigment/craft ink, Versafine, etc...) If you do want to use those inks, you can pre-stamp them at home and include the pre-stamped pieces in the kit. Same goes with things that take a while to dry like Stickles.
Actually, pre-doing part of your card is a great way to make sure it is truly a 10 minute or less card. To make sure my card is fast, I follow a rule that it can only have one of these elements (otherwise I have to have already done them for the kits) - cutting, stamping, or lots of layers. I am a very fast worker, so if I can't put my card together in under 5 minutes, I modify it. After all, I'm used to the card and not hitting it fresh and under a time crunch. I try to make sure any stamper can get it done in 10 minutes or less.
Also, if you use clear or unmounted stamps, you'll need to include a block as most people don't bring those. And, most importantly - label everything that's yours. Supplies do get moved so you want to be able to figure out what's yours and what's someone else's!
Some people include directions with their cards. Some put them in the baggies and some just put them on display at the table (one of those clear acrylic frames works great for this). Others don't include directions. I've done both in the past and really it depends on how hard your card is to make and if it needs directions. That's an individual call.
Regardless, this is for fun, so the most important thing is to have fun!

Also - no embossing! That may have already been said, but I am just throwing that out there! If you want embossing on your card, please do it before hand!!

Hey Ladies. I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your weekend. I have a remedial stamp question: the bubble lady stamps - we've seen the mermaid and the angel in our last couple of swaps - who makes those? I love them and I can't find them! Thank you for your help!!!!!

Hey Celina!
Are you referring to Anyas from The Greeting Farm?
Zowie - that was fast! I have to say, I love living in a mail center. Things get out of here so quickly. It also helps that the P.O. nearest to my house is a big one.

This will be my first shoebox swap and I'm really looking forward to it. I realize that envelopes are not provided and if we want envelopes to match the cards (stamping, etc) then we bring our own.
As far as the inside of the cards, do we provide that also? Have half my card kits done, waiting on SU order to complete the rest and wondering, wondering, wondering what to do for a door prize.

I took a picture of all the door prizes that were made for one of the swaps. If you go to SWAP DOOR PRIZES you will see all of them displayed on shelves. Hope this helps.
Hey Sooz? What is the final total for the swap? Just wanted a number so I can cut the cardstock and get the kits ready. (And noooooo, I still haven't even decided on a sample!!! LOL)

The total right now is 35. Jen del Muro isn't going to particpate, but her and Susan Liles are going to come up for lunch. I would certainly plan for 35 and a few extra. I wouldn't prepare more than 40 kits.
Don't forget that you need a sample for the table and one for the display board.
I have sent out the following PM: Please respond no later than 6/5. If you know Debbie Wilson and/or Danille W, please forward the message. Thank you!
Hello!
I'm going to be ordering box lunches for everyone from McAllister's Deli in Denton. Each boxed lunch will come with potato salad, cookie, mayo & mustard packets, and lettuce & tomato (on the side). We'll also have several gallons of iced tea.
I need you to email me back here or via my personal email address ([email protected]) your sandwich and iced tea preference.
Sandwiches - Roast Beef, Ham, or Turkey
Bread - White or Wheat hoagie
Tea - sweet or unsweet
Please respond to me no later than June 5th. If I don't hear from you, I will make the decision for you.
If you know Debbie Wilson and/or Danille W, please forward this message to them, as I don't know what their SCS name is.
For those who want to meet up for dinner on Friday evening before the swap, we're going to have a little TexMex at the Blue Mesa in Frisco, TX. If you're interested, please PM me and I'll start a list up.

ugh - I would so love to come, but we have a Rough Riders game that we have to go to. Madison gets to "perform" gymnastics with her team mates sometime before or during the game.
