Susan,
I am sorry but I cannot make either of the October dates. We have a wedding one weekend and a family gathering the other. We watch the thread for updates.

GOOD DEED REQUEST!!!! This came from the SCS RAK List. Let's see how many states we can get covered for this precious boy. It says cards, but I was thinking I'd pick up postcards since then it says what state its from too...
Noah has a very horrible disease (DIPG) which is a brain cancer for which there is no cure and little treatment - he is three years old.
It looks like Noah might not have much time left.
It would give this precious Kindergartner some happiness if he could collect cards from all 50 states!
Noah's Story (the link was not working, I'll see if I can find out but his info is from:
Window World Cares | The Official Charitable Foundation of Window World Inc.)
For those who might have problems with the Link the Address for Cards is:
Notecards for Noah
1849 Lithia Springs Road
Moravian Falls, NC 28654
I'm confused. Is the shoebox swap in Martinsburg on October 15 on or off? If it's on, Terrie and I can be there. If not, we'll just have to do some crafting on our own here in Rockville. Please let us know!

Hi Carol. It was cancelled at Michaels because I did not hear from anyone else, just 4 people, which didn't make sense to reserve and pay for the room then. Chris Nelson indicated she would host at her house in Stephens City, VA on Oct. 22nd (its about 30 min south of Martinsburg, and actually about 5 minutes south of Winchester, if that.
CHRIS: Please check in and post what date and time you want to host for certain -- completely up to you -- and I'll update from there and we'll stick with that.

Hi Everyone! I spoke with Chris last night and here's the info. We'll go forward with Saturday, Oct. 22, 11am - 3pm (or 4pm if we keep going like last time!). We'll do a potluck lunch and craft away for Autumn theme!
We'll do a shoebox swap still -- with Autumn theme.
I hope lots of you can make it.
Her house is just a few minutes outside of Winchester, VA.
Carol and Terrie -- Hope you can make it.
Ellen and VixenStamper -- We will miss you at this one but hopefully catch you at the next one!
Last year it seemed like we kept having weather issues with the winter months but let me know if you still want to have one in November, Dec, Jan and Feb! Does anyone else have a location they want to reserve or offer? I'm hoping to hear dates from Beth soon and book for March or April for a retreat.

Potluck finger foods/snacks!! Please bring something to share. We will start at Noon, so you can bring a 'lunch' or finger food type item. No refrigerator there, but there is a sink.
ShoeBox Swap: Make and bring enough of your craft to swap with each person in the meeting. Can be anything that involves stamping and/or papercraft! Ideas: jewelry, cards, hat pins, bookmarks, notepads, magnets, tags, boxes, card candy sets, etc!

Most of us know someone personally who has been through breast cancer. My sister is a survivor, and I've lost three relatives to it. I've too many friends to count who have also fought this battle, some have won, some did not. My stepdaughters lost their mother to the battle when they were only six.
My daughter Kristiana is doing the Race for the Cure this year in Antarctica, where she works. My sister started it in this location many years ago. Please join me in supporting her in this awesome cause, in hopes that we may find a cure.
Hint, Hint, Hint... As some of you know already... I'm hosting a series of swaps called the DO A GOOD DEED WITH ME swaps...
The first was the pillowcases/tags one for the One Million Pillowcase Challenge. It finished last month. Donated 70+ pillowcases for children in hospitals and seniors and shelters!
The second is for baby blankets with tags. Ducki is actually the official hostess of that one! Link is in my signature.
The third is for children's cancer caps. BethKinder is the official hostess for that one, link is also in my signature.
And GOOD DEED #4 will be: (drum roll please)
Can you sew a straight seam? Or Crochet or Knit? (Dumb question to ask YOU ladies, I know....)
THEN... you create an encouraging card or tag to go with each washcloth pocket/bag.
AND then OPTIONALLY, if you would like to, you can add any or all of the following to it (must all be new):
travel size shampoos, conditioners, soaps/body wash, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush (must be in a sealed package), brush, comb, chapstick, deodorant
Please put the items inside in a ziplock bag, just in case anything breaks open or such during shipping, then tuck it inside the washcloth bag and put the card with it. If you can bag each set individually, that helps, but if not, I'll do that when they arrive.
Think if you suddenly had to leave home and had nothing but the clothes on your back. What would be a nice basics kit that would at least help you for a day or so.
Battered and homeless women and children go through this. They often arrive at a shelter with nothing. That little washcloth bag may give them back a fresh clean start feeling, a bit of dignity, and a bit of encouragement that it can get better.
These will be donated to the Shenandoah Womens Center near me.
NOTE: They also have children arrive with these women sometime, so it would be fun if some of them are also made with children in mind who might get them.
They won't be due until end of March 2012, so you have plenty of time to work on them.
Hello ladies,
November could be difficult for me because I will be out of town the weekend of Nov. 11-13 and we will be visiting family Thanksgiving weekend. Would anyone want to get together the first weekend in December (Saturday, the 3rd?) After that I'm afraid we are all going to be in the throes of the Christmas season. I don't know how time flies by so quickly.
Ellen

Hi Chris and Annette -- looks like right now its just the 3 of us this weekend but I'm still game for it. I look forward to the relaxing time just chatting and sharing the ideas!
Yes, the Hobby Lobby is terrific!!! I have been there so much already. It is so busy, just crawling with people, but they have so employees working that you really do not have to wait in line too long to check out. They do have a meeting room and it looks nice too. Maybe we can have the gathering there next time.
I will see you both on Saturday. I will bring my coffee tins to make containers along with my spray glue so we can attach the paper to it. I will bring paper and some embelishments but if you would like to bring your own paper, somthing you know a friend/family memeber would like, to give as a gift it is up to you. With just the 3 of us it will be fun to make something a little more complicated. Will that be okay??
Sounds great to me!!! I have to put together my kits still... I know what I want to do but haven't cut all the pieces... it will also be a little more time consuming since we have the time.
CHRIS: Since its just the 3 of us, any suggestions on what you want to do about lunch? What would you like us to potluck so we can make it easy?
We all know how wonderful it can be to get a card... brings a smile.
And something tells me that every single one of you has a spare card somewhere at home just waiting to bring a smile to someone special...
Here's a little boy who could use a smile. He just started a bone marrow transplant process on 10/13 --- very painful --- and they are trying to collect 5000 cards to brighten his room. Help out please. Send a card, even if only a postcard!
Hi Susan, found this post from over a year ago and just wondering if any meets,or shoebox swaps are planned for the future, I live in York County, south of Harrisburg. Thanks Karen
It's OK.....Hey I heard of this place it's in Hebron, MD.....nice cropping place and well CHEAP $160 with 5 meals for the weekend and $100 with no food......ANYONE want to go??? I could do either prefer the no food but I do need to eat they have fast food and stuff in the area and in Salisbury, MD...www.croppingcafe.com We only need 8 or so people - maybe a nice Feb date would work???
Hebron is across the bay so I would wonder about weather in February, but the place looks great! I can't say right now if I will be able to do one in the winter months because of weather, and right now my job is in flux so waiting to see what happens there first too. But let me know if you do find several who can do it and I'll hopefully know more by then!
I worried to about the February weather as well but I guess I'm praying on being snowed in somewhere else, LOL! It's funny, when I was in school in Harford Co, MD we had a week off in Feb - conservation week - it just happened to be the warmest week of the winter....they cut that out after a few years of "cold spell" never hit on that EXACT week.
It just seemed like that was the only month that had nothing there.....maybe we could look at something in the fall once those dates are posted too.
If we go with the 100 rate I'm sure I wouldn't have any problems coming up with croppers, we could do the pot luck type meals - everyone bring something to contribute to the meals?
Found a more local crop in Middleburg, VA. It's only $150 for the weekend 2/22 -2/24. Pay $25 prior to Jan 5th get something (door prize tickets, LOL). Anyways, if your interested it's on Meetup - the group is Northern Virginia Meetup run by Amber Fries.
Still wouldn't mind a trip to Hebron - maybe the 3rd weekend in October 2013?
If you can't attend that, maybe you can attend my next one (for the Stampin' Up Holiday Mini catalog). I'll post the date for that as soon as its set. Or, maybe you can like one of my Meetup Groups where I post info about my 2-day weekend crops. Those meet ups are the "Northern VA scrapbook, card making and paper crafting" group and the "Falls Church/Alexandria Meetup group"
