I just found some new recipes for lemon blueberry tea cake and some organic buttermilk cupcakes! White chocolate, cream cheese frosting... I have to try them. Yum!
Dell: Do you put the cast iron pot right on your stove? Gas or electric?
I have seen them but wondered about how they would do, and also, do you have to oil it between when you aren't using it to keep it from rusting?
I know they say they are good for you because the iron also 'leaches' into the water and you can absorb it that way from drinking the tea.
I'm half-Japanese but I never really drank tea growing up and didn't like it, even now have very few ones I like, mostly fruity ones, or I do like Yogi Kombucha Green Tea because it is so mild. I have never cared for black teas unless they have a very fruity taste. I bought some from a shop in Steamboat Springs, CO, and have enjoyed them.

I made banana bread yesterday with dark chocolate chips and walnuts. I used to make homemade biscotti too and love those with tea... especially pistachio/cranberry ones dipped in white chocolate.

Me too!! Well, banana bread with semi-sweet chocolate chips and no nuts. One loaf didn't turn out. Not sure why.
Mine were dryer for some reason, I may have cooked too long as I used the convection oven feature and am still getting used to it. I used Janet's Best Banana Bread recipe off the web... it has sour cream in it and normally turns out very rich!
Susan,
Please put me down for the virtual tea. I used to have a handmade teapot but it was broken long ago. I recently purchased a small one on ebay that I love. It has soft red roses painted all over it. I love having Panera's orange scones with tea.
I am looking forward to the Virtual tea. I have pink gloves so I ordered a pink dress, hat , fan and boa from ebay so I could have tea with you all in style! Hoping my cousin can make it too!

I have an electric stove, but have used gas too. I place that puppy right on those burners. Works beautifully! You can oil them on the outside with a bit of cooking oil if you like. I have had mine for quite some and never had to do it yet. The inside is smooth so no problem there.
Any you want to create. I have to admit I have one already done that I plan to use... its the card I think I sent to you when I first was your SS!

You go, girl! You are most definitely ready!!! I love the idea!
I had a fun hat somewhere, may have to search for it before then. Definitely hope you'll share pics then too!
I must have a boa or similar scarf somewhere...

I drink different teas in different ways. Sometimes just plain with nothing. If I want something sweet I love to use brown sugar. Green tea and honey.... Depends on the day.
I will be using my Numi tea pot to make a "flowering" tea on the day of our Virtual tea party. My DD and SIL gave it to me for Christmas and I haven't used it yet. So, this is going to be a new experience for me and I can't wait!!
Iced tea will be just fine, especially with the heat coming on of late! I have been eyeballing those big glass dispenser jars myself to put on the counter top... the girls and DH love unsweetened tea... but I don't know that it would be cold enough to keep them happy, though I love the looks of them. I have a friend who makes one full of fresh squeezed lemonade and keeps it full on the counter with ice and lemons, etc. Yum.
Do you all make sun tea at all?
Christina - I was looking over herb plants at the store the other day and trying to remember which you use for teas... I have a book somewhere in the house on herbals and should get it out. I was thinking I would like to plant chamomilles in the flower beds anyhow, I lvoe how pretty they are, same with echinacea so may add those two but haven't ever made teas from them, have you?
My son has one of these... they are absolutely stunning to watch and the tea is great too! We may have to have you post pics of that too! I have been eyeballing them....

Just read through everything to catch up - honestly, in April and May I just pack the suitcase, make sure I have LOTS of books and knitting available, and hit the road. April and May are crazy busy in adult education! That's why I'm behind on my threads.
This thread is sounding like everyone needs a 'tea recipe" swap. Any of you experienced hostesses interested? :-) I hosted a swap once and let's just say it clearly is not my forte. But I am always willing to hep in any way if I can do something from here!
Good morning all! I've not checked in for awhile so haven't read back into the posts.
But, to answer the sweetner question....usually don't add anything. Once in a while I'll add honey. My former MIL (who has passed away) grew up in England and she would put honey and milk in her tea.
I do like mainly flavored teas; have never made my own teas; usually just use tea bags.
Love reading about the pink gloves and boa for the teaparty!
You are not alone. I spent so much time getting a festive atmosphere in my studio for the tea party that I haven't started my project yet either. I did go to hobby lobby and get my paper so that is as far as I have gotten. Looking forward to seeing your project (along with own) on Saturday!
We made a quick trip to MA this past weekend so I was offline a couple of days. Beautiful area, but the roads were not very well marked, I think I spent more time trying to find my way via GPS than actually sight-seeing!
DH and the girls went for a walk one afternoon and took a picture of a big bear paw in the mud (a fresh one!) across the road from our building. I'm just thankful it was only the paw print (most likely it was a print from a cub even).
While we were there I did go to an old-fashioned candy and odds/ends store that had a few fun tea goodies too so I have a few prizes to offer up during our tea party too!!!!
We found a big bear paw print in the mud behind our tent when we were camping up there a while back. Ack!
Looking forward to the tea party! Although, I've already lost that recipe for the lemon tea bread.... I can't think straight. It's here somewhere, lol.

Oh I love those glass dispenser jars! It's just one of those things that would look so refreshing and invitIng on the kitchen counter. We do sun tea here. Hubby always puts a jar out. I don't have chamomile yet but plan to. I kept trying to buy seeds or plants locally but some things I can't find I just will have to order. I actually want to try growing a tea plant and harvest my own. I have always just snipped fresh herbs and steeped them. Thinking about drying some this year. I love sliced lemon and fresh mint or basil.
We have a local farmers market here but they are only on Thursday afternoons from 2-5pm, and then on Sundays from 10am - 2pm. Ugh. Of course. I work during the week, then church on Sundays isn't often out until after noon...
I may have to figure out how to get there this week though because I know they had a lot of herb plants last year that were harder to find elsewhere. I want the chamomille, echinacea, marjoram, and lemon balm for certain, will have to see what else I can find there. Maybe I should pick up a couple for you too, then it will really give us a great excuse to HAVE to meet up midway! Hahaha
