Default San Diego

Hi All,
I will be going to San Diego next week with hubby and while he works I will be playing. So, can anyone tell me some great stamp/scrapbooking stores to go to. Also some good places to go in general and places to eat. Thanks in advance.

We spent some time there a couple of Christmases ago. Since DH was with me the whole time, I didn't check out any stamping/scrapping shops.

Here's a rough list of our highlights: Coronado Island (Hotel Del Coronado), Point Loma (tidal pools, beaches, historic sites and national cemetery), San Diego Zoo (excellent! loved the koalas and pandas), Birch Aquarium, Balboa Park (so much to see and do; fabulous cactus garden, among others).

Fantastic breakfast tacos at Taco Surf. We were treated with a gift certificate at Lamont Street Grill which was great. And, for a chain, Buca di Beppo was fun on Christmas day.

Enjoy your trip!

I've bumped the "Huge LSS and nothing in stock" thread here in General Stamping Talk- there is a good list in that thread of the stamping stores here in San Diego.....

As far as places to eat, it depends on what part of town you will be in....

Post back what part of town you'll be in and there's quite a few of us San Diego girls on this site who can make suggestions...

The weather should be beautiful!!

I was just in SD last month. I didn't have time to go to any Scrapbook stores. (Darn )

But we found some wonderful places to go:

Balboa Park | A landscape of Arts and Culture

My Nephew and new niece live close to Hotel circle. So we did a lot in that area.

Lot's of Good place to eat!!!

Hi Cindy, "bump" is making a comment so that this thread moves to the top of all the threads in this category so others will see it sooner. People may also say "btt" which is "bump to the top."

You must try both of the things that has made San Diego cuisine famous -- fish tacos and craft beer. There are wonderful craft breweries in every neighborhood and they serve wonderful beers, pizzas and pub food. Two of the best are Karl Strauss and Pizza Port.
Try to hit Old Town for some history and shopping and Mexican food.

June - thanks for putting in the link so Cindy could see the stores!

Cindy - I've heard of the Residence Inn but I don't know anymore about it. There's lots to see and walk to from Pacific Highway.

And yes, check out the fish tacos! Yummy!

I love Balboa Park. Wear very comfortable shoes. You can easily get there by bus from downtown and a cab wouldn't cost much either. There is also a commercial little trolley car that goes to all the popular tourist places that you can jump off and on easily. Be sure to get a full map of Balboa Park that includes the Spanish Village & zoo areas in addition to all the museums. Here's the one I recommend to friends:

http://friendsofbalboapark.org/wp-co...lboparkMAP.pdf

I love the Spanish Village - it is a collection of artist studios where you can watch the artists at work. They are very friendly and will answer questions. I can usually find some inexpensive gifts there. I love the El Prado restaurant, probably because I had my wedding reception at it's predecessor back in 1973. The first free Sunday afternoon organ concert of the season starts on 5/27 at 2:00 pm. There are a couple musicals alternating this week at the Old Globe Theater.

If you go to the zoo and want to save on walking (areas can be very hilly) you will want to check out the express bus that stops in the area of each major exhibit and saves on the shoe leather - especially if it is hot.

If you can make it, Cabrillo Point on Pt Loma has the most wonderful view of Coronado all the way out to Coronado Islands off of Mexico. It's breathtaking on a clear day.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me - I've lived here for over 50 years and love to tell people about my beautiful home city.

@ june- thank you for taking the time to explain things to me.

@ linda- thank you so much. I have put the address of the taco surf in my gps and we will definetially try them.

@ marybeth- thanks for the info, and will try both places. i have heard of old town and will probably go there while hubby is working.

@skippet- thank you for the link of the map of balboa park and area. that will come in handy for me as i go sightseeing and shopping while hubby is working. but we together will go to cabrillo point since a friend of hubby's told him he would enjoy it.

@ reeses_piecez- carne asada (anything)/tacos and dessert- my two favorite things in the world. thank you.

thank you to all who responded. i hope that you all see the replies. don't know how to send them to each of you personally, but i am willing to learn, if you want to tell me how.;)

Definitely go to Coronado Island. It is gorgeous. When our son graduated from boot camp in San Diego, the first thing he wanted to do was go to the island and touch the Pacific Ocean.

So much for my prediction of beautiful weather for your visit....

It's Friday and it's gloomy and rainy :(

Tomorrow should be better with Sunday and Monday forecasted to be sunny.

You will love San Diego. In my opinion it has the best weather year around than anywhere I have ever been. I grew up in the LA area and had family in SD. I also highly reccomend the Del Coronado. Go have a drink on the deck and watch the ocean or have a drink and watch the sunset. Beautiful!! You will have a great time.
