ribbon, where do you buy yours?
I look at the gallery and I see so much beautiful ribbon on cards. I have about 15 spools, but I have a hard time finding ribbon to match my cardstock. I use mostly SU cardstock. The thing is instead of buying ribbon for each separate cardstock, I wish I could find a collection of ribbon that is plain, different widths, and patterns. ( I love polka dots!) Any suggestions? signed, tied in knots

I'm fond of some of the ribbon at Hobby Lobby but, if I can't find what I want, I just get white and dye it to match. A few drops of re-inker in a bit of rubbing alcohol is my preferred method. I did a "tutorial" on my blog many moons ago...

Some SU! Demos offer ribbon shares, where they order many of the different ribbons in the catalog and portion it out. Thought I’d mention that in case that would be enough variety for you...

ohhhh Sue, I just looked at your tutorial, what a great idea!!! I have to make a trip to hobby lobby, a little bit of a trek for me as we only have one. Adriana, oh my goshhh I would love to know a SU rep that offers that! That sounds great also.

I often get ribbon on the SU clearance rack when it goes on sale. It matches the cardstock and can be fairly reasonable once on sale

I'm glad you liked the tutorial! You could also get ribbons from whatever store is close to if you're going to dye it anyway. WalMart even has some nice ones in their craft/sewing section... Mary Deatherage (SU Demo) does shares every time a new catalog comes out. You could contact her to see if she has anything to offer from her last go 'round...

I posted in the ISO forum for ribbon in specific SU colors and got lots of new and used spools from a few sellers for great prices.

I had gotten a couple packs of mixed color polka dots at TJMaxx some time ago (they go thru periods of having crafts stuff) and I went to check the mfg for you but too late-I had already converted them to Sue's storage method on HM cardboard spools to save space (which REALLY works btw) Besides I dont know if they would match SU. I think asking in the ISO thread is a great choice! try it!

Thank you, Dina. Yes, we surely do have ribbon of all types, sold by the yard, full spools and in handy sampler packages. Thanks so much for the mention! Quote: Originally Posted by dini |

Most of SU ribbons can be colored with the Stamin Markers, Blends and the inks. I often use the Metallic Edged ribbon and color it the color of the SU cardstock

I loved it when SU used to make 3 basic ribbons---grosgrain, organdy and satin---in the colors of inks, papers, markers. They were really lovely to tie and looked so beautiful. They still sell ribbon, but only in certain colors and rarely in organdy or grosgrain. I often buy from Joann, and while they have a wide variety, the ribbon is cheap and doesn't tie as nicely. Thanks for the ribbon source. I will check that out.

I was a designer for Really Reasonable Ribbon.com. I love Bonnie's ribbons for my cards and especially the huge selection of colors of May Art and seam binding ribbons.

I like May Arts Ribbon Design Company (formerly Ribbon Resource), which has great sales several times a year. May Arts Ribbon Design Company - Buy Ribbons Online Renaissance Ribbons has some gorgeous woven ribbons, not cheap, but you really don't need much to set off a card: https://renaissanceribbons.com

I love this if the markers really do a good job of coloring. Seam binding is very nice to work with and can be gender neutral. I'm going to do this even if I have to buy the packaged stuff from Joann's. Thanks for the great idea!

Someone gave me a couple of feet of ribbon made up of tiny, multicolored, individual squares held together with thread. Would anyone know what it might be called? I’ll post a photo later if that would help. Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but it seems that the ribbon people are here. Thanks!

You are more than welcome. I have some and use it often, but it took several searches before I got something other than carpeting, quilts and knitted granny squares. I put in "eyelash ribbon and other fancy ribbon" finally, so I didn't know the name right off.

Well you got there. Mine is very thin with tiny squares, the squares being little flat individual pieces of material, rather than looking knit, if that makes sense. Looking on line there are a variety of gauges, usually with the word “yarn” so mine might be a mini. I rarely use ribbon but will find a way to use this once I get more.

Yes, yours is exactly what I have. I don't have much, but do have several different color combos to use on cards. I use it just like any other ribbon---wrapped, knotted in bunches or even as a scarf on a "lady" stamp or as a hat band on a fancy hat stamp.

I had some about a decade ago but it didn't survive the purge when we moved across country. Mine was different than what I'm linking to, but is this close to what you're looking for? Broke Mary's Yarn on a Budget mini ladder yarn

Not sure I even purchased it myself, but, if I did it would have been at Joann's, as that is the only place I had to shop back then. However, mine looks like what gregzgirl linked to.

Hi there! I have been an SU ribbon addict since 2005 and my collection (aka hoard!) is out of control. I'd be happy to send you some, no charge. Do you have particular colors you're interested in or certain styles? I only buy sizes that will work on cards since that's what I make as well. Just PM if interested! - Catherine

wow I am just adding all these places to my supply list..I love looking at ribbons! Those woven ones on Renaissance...oooooooo.....
I can offer MJ Trim-they do ribbon, rhinestones, etc but watch for minimums. They are a brick and mortar in NYC if any one is ever visiting. Sigh. We are losing a lot of those kinds of stores. But we still have some in what's left of the garment district, and if you google ribbon stores manhattan NYC a bunch will come up. Never know what you will find in the clearance bins! They will be trimming places so they will have buttons etc too.

Oh, that brings back memories of when I visited the garment district when I was in NY City years ago. The floor to ceiling rolls of fabric took my breath away. I made all my own clothes at the time, so I was in heaven.

I used to go to Zarin's fabric store in the lower east side and hit their remnants...but then the wife went on The Real Housewives of NY (Jill Zarin) in the beginning and the store got upgraded and the prices went flying up so that was the end of that.

What Linda Said about the Hug Snug seam binding. It colors with reinkers really nicely. Other than that, I'm into only cord and twine.

SU sells seam binding ribbon which is easy to tie. You can color it with ink, alcohol markers etc. And you can probably find of at Michael's or Joanne's if you don't want the one SU has.
