Drier Sheets
Ok - prob the silliest question of the day --- when using drier sheets with die cuts, do you use them once they have been in the drier ?? I tried to use one today that was straight out the box and it just left sticky stuff all over my plates and just ripped. HELP -- Thanks Kim
Well, I had that question and searched it on Youtube. I have seen it used both ways on youtube. I imagine if you use it before dryer that you probably want to get unscented.
But, the answer to your question is I've seen it both ways. I can't wait to try this idea myself. I'm in the middle of a move and won't be able to experiment until most likely mid june.
Every video I've watched uses them right out of the box. I did make the mistake of getting scented ones... I was so anxious to use them that I bought them because Target didnt have unscented. I bet they were sold out because of the Die cutting ladies in my area bought them all LOL. Too smelly for my liking. I will give them away because I hate scented laundry products :-p

I'd like to know what unscented brand works the best. I bought unscented grocery store brand and they are sticky but not working that well. My dollar store didn't have them.
I used All unscented right out of the box. Not a problem here.

I love this technique! I use them right out of the box. I place the die on the stack (4 folded in half) of dryer sheets and run it thru first without the paper; that will help release the paper because it coats the die. Then I run the die through with the paper and die cut (don't use the dryer sheet for this part of the process) the paper. Then I put the dryer sheet on top of the cutting pad, then the die with the paper still in the die, face down on the dryer sheet stack and then the top plate and run it through. Everything sticks to the dryer sheet stack; I just pull off what I need and leave all the unwanted bits attached to the dryer sheet. Then I just fold that section to the back of the stack and I have a fresh sheet face up for the next time.
I haven't even seen "I heard..." type stories on this idea. I can't even get any to come up with various google searches. And I tried, believe me.
However, I did find this statement online: Dies are relatively durable and are not made of materials that can rust. (in an article about Sizzix wafer thin dies)
And I have seen two feedback reviews from people who had Spellbinders dies rust on the cutting edge in storage. Storage conditions are unknown.
Personally, I have had no difficulties using dryer sheets. The technique is "the cat's meow"! I don't hate my intricate dies anymore!
What about the theory that drier sheets rust your dies? I'm not risking it with my expensive dies!
This is just a rumor, there is no info out on the web that this actually happens.
If you have evidence please POST it.

This is definitely the silliest question of the year.
What do you use the die cut drier sheets for???
Here is Australia we have impregnated this foam sheets....My sil in the USA saves me sheets when we holiday with her - after they have been used in the dryer and I have used a few to add dimension to the rolled flowers but nothing else. Ideas please as we are coming over in August for a fresh supply.
I use a new not used dryer sheet. I reuse the dryer sheet for cutting dies. Then I throw the dryer sheet out.

I use "used" dryer sheets and they work fine with all my intricate dies. I have also used new out of the box and they seem to work the same for me. I have heard from a friend that the cheap dryer sheets at dollar stores, etc. don't work very well.
I use the dryer sheets right from the box and always use unscented. A friend of my used the scented type in her craft room and it filled the room with a huge floral scent. I guess it's ok if you like the scent but I have allergys and OMG I had to get out of that room it was so over powering. I think Ive used the same dryer sheet at least 20 times before I took out a new bunch. Have not tried Dollar store ones, not sure why they wouldn't work and since I need to go to my Dollar store today I think I'll pick up a box and give them a try.
A good use for those dye cut dryer sheets is to clean your bathroom. Rub the dryer sheets on your sink, faucets etc. (after cleaning) and then wipe down with a clean soft cloth like and old tee shirt. It keeps your bathroom cleaner longer. It seems to repel water and grime! Got the idea on Pinterest! I also used it on my stainless steel appliances!
I use dryer sheets with my dies....but there is a difference in them...I bought some at the dollar store...and the stuff they put on them was so thick that it came off on my dies and they were terrible...had to clean them off....I only have to use one dryer sheet with my butterfly thinlets and it works wonders with getting the small pieces out....they just fall out...grant it I had to pay a little more for my dryer sheets...but in the long run it was worth it and you can use them over and over....
I had never heard of dryer sheets being used with dies; every video I watched gave the tip for using waxed paper which I have always used since, works perfect every time with every die

This video uses 4 dyer sheets. I only have to use one. All die machines are different.

I have used the sheets from Walmart, I did exactly what the video showed and what a mess! Got my acrylics all full of the softener and didn't realize it was happening and flipping them over got my magnetic platform messy! No more! Got everything clean with hot water. I wish it worked for me, but that's life.

I had no problem. I use All Free-unscented dryer sheets.

I used a dollar store brand and had the same sticky mess before or after using them in the dryer.
Now I'm giving wax paper a try and will see how that works.
BTW, it does help if you can find a very stiff denture brush for those pieces that get stuck and if that fails I just relax and use a stick pen, after all it's just play time!
I havent seen any comments on the residue the dryer sheets leave on your paper. I hd this problem. It leaves a shiny type of sheen and it wont accept ink either. Anyone else notice this. I only used sheets that had already been in the dryer.
There are two ways to use dryer sheets with dies. First is to use the die cut on a card. They are most often used to make flowers or ruffles. For this you use used dryer sheets.
Second is to use the dryer sheets to get die cuts out of Intricate dies. For that you use fresh dryer sheets. They seem to have a waxy substance in them that the paper sticks to which allows it to come free of the die. I've also heard to run the die through without any paper to lubricate the die. I can't imagine this waxy substance causing rust. It's not wet so why would it? It's not the wet fabric softener after all. I had a die sit in water that spilled on my table and it was fine. It definitely didn't rust. The waxy stuff might even protect it in the same way microcrystalline wax protects things from water.

Sandwich I use is die, paper, dryer sheet. Dryer sheet is touching back of die cut, not front of die cut.
I never get residual on the front of the die cut, because dryer sheet is touching the back of the die cut.
Are you putting the dryer sheet on the die than paper??? This could be the problem.
Hope I helped.

Boy I'm a bit confused with all these posts being so different as to how to use the dryer sheets so I figured I might as well add my 2cents...LOL
I use the dies and sheets a bit differently. First I run my die the usual way with the die directly on the paper, then once I cranked it through I remove the die cut from the die and place sharp side of die face down on top of folded un-used dryer sheets, sandwiched between 2 cutting plates and crank it through my machine. All little pieces originally stuck in the die are now stuck onto the fabric sheet. This method leaves no sheen on your paper because your doing it separately. An un-used dryer sheet does not cut out your shape so you can use it time and time again. I have had some residual on my cutting plates but it quickly comes off in the sink with a little dish soap and hot water.
Ok that was my 2 cents...carry on...LOL

I use the sandwich I mentioned above. This way it is only one pass through and everything is done at one. Die is cut and pops right out. I am lazy, why crank the cuttlebug through two time;)

Not sure which one but for sure it was either the "99Ct" or "The Dollar Tree" where I bought my dryer sheets. They worked great and were slightly scented. Blue box labeled "Breezy" 50~Fresh Linen Fabric Softener Sheets".
