Default Cling stamp mount that is wood and acrylic???

I saw a post on social media the other day where someone was showing off the new mounting block for cling stamps that they had purchased and "love". It was an acrylic block glued to the bottom of a wood block ...

?what? ... ?why?
I just sat there looking at my screen shaking my head. Could someone enlighten me as to what purpose/advantage something like that could have because for the the life of me I'm stumped.

Do you have a link to the post or to the person who posted it? That does sound a bit strange...

I agree. That does not make sense. Can you link us? I cant see what the purpose of that is. The acrylic is all you need unless they like the thicker "tool" in the hand. But you lose the see-thru advantage as well.

That is why I was asking here. I kept thinking "how weird" all day and decided to come to the experts of all things stamping. Unfortunately it was one of those random IG "think you'll like this" posts by a junk journaler. I know the poster said she got it on Etsy, I'll take another look again later to see if I can find it.

that IS weird, was it fully wood? I know that Unity used to (or still does) sell the block that is wood side, like the "handle" and clear through the middle

I haven't seen one, but I could see the advantage.  A wood block is usually much more comfortable to use than an acrylic block.  By attaching an acrylic block to the wood, you get the comfort of the wood block, but the cling capabilities of the acrylic block.

AliceinMD that in not the one I saw, same basic concept but at least the ones you pictured you can still see what/where you are stamping.  The one I was talking about was a full on block so you would lose that ability to see what/where you are placing the image.

The only reasoning I could come up with was something similar to what you said Lacyquilter, someone wants the feel of wood mounted stamps with their unmounteds because that is what they prefer.  I have been stamping since before unmounted stamps was a thing and I still love the mounted stamps I have but prefer unmounted for the reason already stated.  To each their own though, that is the true gift of craftiness isn't it.  The ability for each of us to do things our way.

For anyone who is interested I did find them btw, they are sold by Makistamps(?) on Etsy.

I found the MAKIblock that Stacy is referring to...
https://www.makistamps.com/en/shop-e...mps-190000-26/
They are no longer available.

The Unity wood block has some kind of finish on it that cling foam (and I would assume photopolymer as well) will stick to.

I think both of these were created for those who like wood blocks but need a way to use photopolymer or cling stamps.

The only issue is that you can get really nice acrylic blocks that are thick, and have the grooves all the way around for a nice wood-block-feel in your hands. And you don't lose the advantages of being able to see thru the block with them.

You could probably make them.  The Tim Holtz acrylic blocks are really thin; hot glue them to wood blocks.  If you don't have any extra wood blocks, ask in the buy/sell forum.  So many stampers are unmounting their wood stamps, and don't know what to do with the blocks.
