The other day I yet again subbed to a thread. I usually do this for organization, product and technique threads.
I suddenly realized...I have like 1600 subs???? How did that happen? I have gone back to look at them at times but not enough to justify this. Although part of that is just time...not having the time to try something yet.
I need to purge! Extract whatever info I would really use.
I only subscribe to challenges I host and a couple other chat threads where I volunteer. so, yes I use mine and if I want to go back to a thread I posted a comment in I just go look for it.
I sub to threads that I initiate (so I don't miss if someone adds to the thread), and a few that I need to refer back to for one reason or another, but I'm very good at deleting the thread once the reason has run its course...
Mostly I sub to the challenges I host, and team threads behind the scenes. But I do occasionally sub to other threads that interest me. I usually choose the daily update option for those, so it comes up on my radar if anyone resurrects an older one. I'm reluctant to unsub from those because I do sometimes look back over them. The routine ones, like weekly favourites and gallery mod rosters, I do regularly clean out. So I think the answer is yes, I do actively use mine. I looked, and I have about 350, some going back 11 years. The oldest is a discussion on British English
Gee I seem to be the only one who subs for product discussions? I just know if I dont, I will never find it again. I learn a lot from everyone so I am loathe to let those go....
My second oldest one is how to tie ribbons, it had several useful links. Subs like that are definitely keepers because it is, as you say, much easier to look there than use the search function. But I guess product discussions are less on my radar for keeping, because of usually having to buy international mail order, and therefore being more frugal. There are product threads I read and enjoy, but unless I think I'm likely to buy, I wouldn't sub.
I have my subscriptions bookmarked, so that tab opens up every morning and I can catch up on any new discussion I missed. I've never cleaned them out - they just fade away when the conversation is over. I have searched through them for "ask the artist" questions though!
Before this post I had never heard of subs or subscribing, so I went to the home page and clicked on Subscriptions. I had 845 !!! Apparently they go on this list automatically if you start a thread or respond to a thread.

I set mine to default to being unsubscribed, so I only actively subscribe to threads I'm interested in or need to follow. There's a certain degree of customisation in your user profile.
The other options are available in Thread tools at the top of each thread. Depending on whether it's a site "admin" thread, like gallery modding, challenge hostess, or personal interest, I choose either instant updates or a daily digest. Those come through at just after midnight Pacific Time, so whenever I'm out of sync with US time (usually a couple of weeks each time the clock changes), it always catches me by surprise when they come in at a different time.
Well I checked as well and must have chosen to NOT get notices. Because I didn’t have any and I actually never do sub. I generally look through the threads every evening and see what’s happening. It’s part of my evening routine so I don’t feel the need to subscribe. Maybe if I wasn’t on here so often I would want to keep up that way!
I keep my main sub threads to 20 except during VSN or DTGD. But I usually unsubscribe the minute I finish that challenge. The only threads I get notices for are ones I start. Also, if there is a thread I want forever, I file it off my main ones. So , I have one for technique s I want to remember. I have a really old one from a DTGD many years ago. I have one file named “ one time threads”. Just ones I don’t want to loose, even though they are no longer active. When you choose one of your threads you have a choice to move it or delete it. That is when I move it over to another file some times instead of deleting. I only have a few. But mainly just 20 subscriptions on one page. Kind of a rule for myself! LOL. I go to subscriptions when I get on here. No email notices like I said unless it is my thread I am in charge of. Does this info confuse or help? LOL
This morning I commented on two threads mentioned in the newsletter, so I am now subscribed. It happens automatically when you comment. So, I will stay subscribed awhile to read new comments, but will eventually unsubscribe by either choosing from thread tools or by choosing from my thread list to delete. Just thought that was a good example of how I keep my threads down to 20.

I had no clue either. Guess it's time for me to clean house. I usually never go back to any of them except 1 or 2 lol
A thread I started back in 2020 was just posted on and I guess I forgot to delete the sub. And I see your thread is even older than mine. Interesting how people find Old, old threads and bring them back to life!

they do auto subscribe when you comment but there is a setting that you can change that and only sub when you want.
I change it up which way I do, but I do periodically go in and delete subs. ( like quarterly or yearly LOL)
