Default Who has been to the Viva Las Vegas actual store?

So... who's been to their actual physical store? I am trying to figure out if I am going to be okay walking there by myself. If I am reading their site correctly, It is less than a mile from the Sahara monorail stop. I am not worried about distance, just whether or not that neck of the woods is okay (in broad daylight).

My usual experiences keep me near the south end of the strip (and ON the strip, where you're never more than 30 seconds from a cop, apparently) so I don't really know and there's no way for me to gauge beforehand unless I ask. I would LIKE to be able to walk it, but if that's ill-advised I don't mind a cab.

You might try emailing Stampo and asking. We always drive.

I've been there and I would advise you not to walk. There is a bus that will take you fairly close.
It seemed like a roughish neighborhood, just my opinion. While waiting for the bus after visiting the store I was approached by two guys wanting cigarettes and a few dollars. I made light of it and joked about how I'd just spent all my money at Viva Las Vegas. Luckily they shrugged and went on.

We were just there this past week and we drove. I am a squimish kind of person so I asked my DH for a better opinion. He said he would not walk there. His impression was that it is not a really bad area just not a place where he would feel comfortable if I were walking there by myself. They do keep the door locked and buzz you inside so that says something to me also.

Emily- when are you going? I totally forgot about this store and we are heading out there in August, we will have a car so will drive there but will need to research it. Any other scrapping or stamping stores you are going to?

Thank you for your assessments. Last time I was there I walked from Sahara to the Stratosphere (which is kind of in the same area, just north rather than east) and I was glad I was not walking alone, so I thought this might be the same, but wasn't sure. I did see the directions for the bus but will probably just take a cab if I head out that way.

I have driven there maybe three times. I would not feel comfortable walking from the strip by myself. I also don't know how easy it would be to hail a taxi in front of the store. There is plenty of traffic, but it is not like being in a downtown area.

However you get there, enjoy your visit. It's fun to browse, and I always end up with a few stamps not found anywhere else.

If you're going with a friend, I think the bus would be fine but otherwise I think you're right to plan on a cab.

This I know the answer to: on their website, it says they will be happy to call you a cab when you are finished shopping.

I was dropped off to shop by a local who advised me to stay inside as I waited for my cab. You have to be buzzed into the store. BUT, it's a trip when you get inside. A fun couple of hours. I hope you get there and enjoy yourself.

I am not afraid of a big city, nor am I a timid person and I was happy that I took a cab. The driver refused to leave me there. He waited, free of charge, for me. I felt rushed since I knew he was waiting, and I still bought plenty. It is not in a nice area. I too have done the walk to the Stratosphere and this is very different. Be safe.

If there were 3 or 4 of you, that might change my mind.

Yes it is in one of the worst parts of town. Even during the day dont go alone. If you are allergic to animals it may not be the place for you. Enjoy your stay.
Blessings

I guess I'm in the minority. We were there in 2008 and DH and I walked from the strip. It looked no rougher than the area I grew up in in Indy. I didn't feel scared but DH was a bit skittish but then he's from a small town in IA. DH hung out in the store for a while then walked over to the Starbucks and waited for me. We did take the bus back to the strip but that's only because it was hot and DH is a wimp about the heat.

Love the store and the selection but, as sprtchick mentioned, they do have their animals there which for me isn't a problem, but the day we were there, they obviously had not cleaned their litter boxes. Pee yew!

Every year I go to Vegas, I say I am going to go..then for some reason or another I never quite make it. I have my car in vegas usually so maybe this june I will go for sure. But please share your experience is it worth visiting? meaning lots of good deals on stamps that are "rare" and stuff you might not find on the internet?

I have been there a few times and have enjoyed it. I wouldn't say that I got any bargains, but they have different things above and beyond what you see at a craft store and other online sites. Past purchases:

* Elvis stamp and Thank You, Thank You Very Much stamp
* Still Crazy After All These Beers
* Irish Blessing
* Better Than Hallmark

I went there. My friends dropped me off and I even waited outside there when I was done until they picked me up. I was not afraid or worried. I really liked the store. I went 2 years ago and will go back when I make it back to Vegas. No problem. I spent more money there, than I did in the casinos. They do have animals, but I like animals so that was no problem.

You must go because it is an institution, stampers' mecca. There aren't bargains, just stamps you will not find anywhere else. I think years ago, in their other location before the fire, they made their own stamps and had quite a few that were most likely trademark infringements, or play on other brands. It's hard to describe. Anyway, it is a very different style and there are way too many to choose from....rows and rows...racks & racks. It is difficult to turn around without knocking something over. Stampo is great and knows everything. The cats (I've heard there are dogs but I only saw cats) are friendly and I didn't have any problems with odors, etc.

Chiming in to say how jealous I am! I've always wanted to go to Vegas and have heard so many great things about this store. What a fun trip!

I haven't been there in person - but love that they have so many 'strange' stamps...cause I'm a little 'off' myself. LOL. Love some of the humor and the adult stuff.

I agree with everyone in saying I would not be comfortable walking there even during the day. I had friends drive me and go inside with me to wait while I shopped. Allow yourself some time to look around. It's a small store but it's PACKED with stamps. They also have tons of card samples hung around the store. It's a neat place that's worth going to.

I live in Vegas too. The problem is that there are so many homeless and panhandlers these days. I would say things have gotten much worse since 2008. There are a lot of desperate people here so dont take any chances.
Blessings.

I agree about not walking there-it's been 10 years since I went. We had rented a car and my husband went to a nearby Internet cafe while I shopped. I was there about an hour-SO MANY STAMPS!!! And the sentiments-I laughed out loud-just my type of humor. Bought some of my favorite word stamps ever. It's a definite "must stop" for a stamper, in my opinion.

I have been there and would never recommend walking there. My SIL and I took a taxi. The driver couldn't find it. We ended up walking up and down the street ourselves. Finally found it down a side alley - off the street. Very shady area. The wonderful guy at the store would not let us out in the alley by ourselves until our taxi came. He told us it wasn't safe for two woman out in that alley.

To give you an idea of how safe the neighborhood is, there bars on the doors.

Quite the experience. I won't be returning but will order off the Internet.
