Question Where to donate cards?

I know there is a place somewhere on Splitcoast that one can find places to donate homemade cards to- I am weeding through my supplies and also cards I have made through the years. Can anyone steer me to the right place or give me some ideas? TIA.

In the Challenges forum, check out the "Cards for a cause" area. There are featured organizations every month, but there are also "ongoing" (several groups who accept donated cards year-round).

If you're interested in avoiding postage costs, you might consider asking the activities director at local nursing homes. They will distribute the cards to residents for birthdays or holidays. If you have Thank You or patriotic cards you could contact your nearby American Legion, VFW, or Disabled American Veterans chapters. Your Senior Center might like to distribute them to those participating in their programs. Some folks receive no cards, and the organizations probably know who they are and can distribute your cards to those people.

I make cards for the local Meals on Wheels program. They need about 65 a month, so I create two months' worth at a time and drop them off at the kitchen. The cards are put in the lunch bags. No envelope is needed and I leave them unsigned so that the client can use it (I do sign the back to indicate it's handmade). The response has been extremely positive! The director told me she hopes I continue to have time to make the cards.

Last year they donated 20,000 cards to seniors in facilities. She sends you a receipt you can use for taxes and a list of facilities that they send to. One of them was a senior place that my mom, step mom and dad all lived in before they died in 1999. It was a great feeling to give back.
