I was able to order the tree die (yay) and the fruitful market. Hoping to see some of the others I am waiting for like the butterfly and guy stuff. :-) Wish I knew which stamp sets go with dave's dies... some are obvious but others not so much. Will just keep checking.

Posts 2 and 25 have a link. It's not changing, but he closes down the site every so often to catch up. If you're waiting for something, check back every day and eventually he will be open with the die you're looking for!

Stampin' Up has a contract with Sizzix to make their dies. I doubt that would allow for using an additional vendor to make them as well.

Remember when SU! felt threatened by SCS making an index card for their stamp sets? Personally, I wish they would dial it down a notch and recognize when folk are helping their business, not taking away from it.

Since SU has a contract with Sizzix, then Sizzix probably has told/asked SU to put a stop to Dies by Dave.

But this doesn't make much sense - he is selling dies to match sets for which SU doesn't have matching dies. And he's not advertising them as Stampin' Up (even though we all know that's what they're matching).

SU owns the outline of their stamp images; dies are a copy of that outline which means he's copying their design. Still stinks they shut him down as, like he said, I've purchased MORE from them just because I could get the die from him. Guess I will save money (who am I kidding, I'll just spend it elsewhere, lol)

It makes sense if SU and Sizzix have an exclusive contract to design, manufacture and sell the dies. Doesn't matter if SU and Sizzix decide not to make dies to match all SU stamps.

Exactly the point. They're being made to match SU sets. I don't doubt that SU can see how these dies can and do result in increased sales, but all the legal mumbo jumbo behind the scenes doesn't take that into account.

In my humble opinion I think that if Dave only makes those dies that SU and/or Sizzix does not, I don't see where that hurts either company. I think it helps Stampin Up. I have purchased SU for many years and love the stamps I have but there are some stamps that I would like dies for like Beautiful You which SU/Sizzix are not making. Just my two cents worth.

Sad news about Dave

For those of you that have purchased or used dies from Dies By Dave, I have sad news. I have received an email from him this afternoon and I have posted the message below.
"At this time Stampin' Up! has put a stop to my small business producing dies. I need your support to continue producing dies that add value and make your crafting easier. Here is my personal view on this. Dave has become so popular for a reason. That reason is, that he produced dies for stamps that we want. He eliminated the fussy cutting that many of us are not all that great at, myself included. He gives us ease of use and clean, smooth edges and save us oodles of time. If SU can't or won't make what we are so obviously buying in large quantities, then shame on them. But leave the man alone. Let him do what SU isn't. If SU want the revenue soooooo badly, then make them! Just my view point. I do not claim to speak for anyone else. I was hoping he'd make the 3 gals from the Beautiful You and the food truck from The Tasty Truck stamp sets. What say you!

Look, he's making money off their designs whether SU (or Sizzix) makes and sells those dies or not. So they can't just "let him" keep making dies-- if they decline to protect their intellectual property rights, they can lose the ability to enforce them.
Now, they can probably license their designs to Dave, but (1) that probably interferes with some term of their contract with Sizzix, and (2) he would have to pay for the license, which is going to increase what customers pay. And I don't know how much a license goes for, so it's possible that it's cost prohibitive to him.

No argument there. So why not get an agreement with Dave to make dies for retired or past stamps? I highly doubt Sizzix will make them and we already know SU won't. So where's the harm in that? If SU really wanted to work with him they would find a way. Bottom line is, they don't as is evident in them shutting him down. And reading responses from many crafters, it would be to their advantage to play nice and form an alliance with him. Where there's a will, there's always a way.

Hi is open but no SU dies listed because SU won't let him product their dies anymore. Guess we will have to wait to see what dies he will produce as there are only a few listed in his store. So sad SU won't let him product dies for their stamps. Glad I purchased the matching SU dies when I did!!!

I was wondering why so little dies on his site. I am so sad to hear he isn't producing to match SU anymore. If they don't make the dies for them what is the problem? ugh! Well I will keep checking back to see his originals

Maybe I am doing something wrong?
