I just finished 2 birthday cards and I'm really happy with how they turned out! I even continued with my resolution for 2021 to make the insides pretty too.
Problem is...the outside of the card is horizontal and I made the inside vertical. AARRGGHH!! I do that so often. I guess because I generally make vertical cards I automatically defer to that when working on the inside, but seriously. I just spent 30 minutes putting the front together, how could I forget? Luckily the inside is on it's own panel, so I can easily make new ones, but still.
I would love to hear from others if you have a mistake you just can't seem to stop making.
I have mounted the finished card front onto the base either upside down or backwards
resulting in the card opening from wrong side. Argh!!
This used to be my most common issue - but now I have learned to OPEN the card before I put my panel on the front. I also do this when I'm ready to do the inside: open the card while I create the inside panel (and I've started using a separate inside panel just in case it is vertical/horizontal designed). LOL
Forgetting to use my embossing buddy and having embossing powder in places I don’t want it. Plus, it’s usually a case of not something I can easily just brush off.
Going around the edges of letters and having the pen take a sudden detour across the letter.. I've learned to go very slowly, but it still happens sometimes.
Lots of things, but forgetting to use the embossing buddy and totally ruining the piece. Not to bad if it is just a greeting piece, but it it is a whole panel, it's a disaster.
Besides the already mentioned upside down/backward cardfront layer, my frequent error is gluing a layer down before wrapping the ribbon or twine around it. I have also planned to fold vellum to the back of a piece and remembered after the piece was glued down.
GramT
I would love to stamp a sentiment directly on the card front, but have messed that up so many times ruining my card and wasting all the work already done on the rest of the card, that I only use die cut sentiments or stamped label or tag ones now. Also, I use paper liners in my cards so if I mess up on the stamping of the message I can redo a new one. I really want to do more decorating inside my cards too. I just find I am usually short on time and haven't seen a lot of examples of ways I would like to do that. I have seen some on here and on Pinterest (can I mention that site here?), but would like to get more ideas.
Inky fingerprints and stray embossing powder are at the top of my error list as well.
I always forget to use my embossing buddy bag as well. Maybe I need to write myself a note and put it on top of my embossing powder bin as a reminder.
I cannot layer or mat layers in anything remotely resembling straight or even. Ever. I am in awe of anyone in a video that makes it look so easy...it makes me bonkers.
I work really hard on the front of the card and leave the inside free to write. I mostly send to friends and relatives that I can't see, so cards are how we keep up on news. I have seen the insides of cards that I've CASEd for the front of a card! Just can't bring myself to spend the time, but I think it really looks great.

Keeping things straight when it gets glued down. I have to stand up and use my platform grid to
be sure it is straight. My sight is comprised by Macular degeneration so I blame it on that!
Slowing down has helped.
What does everyone use as paper liners in your cards?

I use plain printer/copy paper. I just had to do that 2 days ago. The markers I used bled through a little on my card front, so I trimmed a piece of printer paper to size, folded it in half, and stuck the front to the inside front of my card. I left the back free so that it opened and closed nicely.
Let's start another thread talking about the insides of cards. Liners, sentiments, embellishing, attaching them, etc..

But don't forget to post to this thread before you go, we don't want the ideas in this thread to stop! I just didn't want to stray from the theme too much here with another one.

I dare to say that I think most of us have an issue with that, at least to some degree. There are all kinds of ideas to try to improve the chances of getting things even. I measure and put tiny pencil marks where I want things to go. A centering ruler is a must in my tool collection.
I think my biggest problem is forgetting all the great ideas and techniques I’ve seen on YT as soon as I sit down. I watch and think, oh - that will be fun!, then I get craft time and *poof* forget it all!
If I open the computer to look again, I will probably get distracted! Lol
My biggest mistake is getting random ink smudges on my cards. I have NO idea where they come from. My fingers will be totally clean and no open ink pad in sight and yet, there's a smudge. I think there are invisible gremlins with tiny inky feet walking across my desk!

That's what I do too! Information overload. I am learning to stop as soon as I find something I like and go do it...unhook from that addictive internet web trap.

LOL. Me too. I think I just dont do a good enough job of cleaning surfaces the last time I worked.
I have a LOT of bookmarks for stuff I want to return to. TG I learned how to organize them into folders!

One of my problems is when I am laying out embellishment pieces for my trial layout. I inevitably knock the ones beside it or bang the whole card, or a "gust" of wind comes along from moving a piece of paper, etc.,and poof I have to reposition them over and over again. I have resorted to using a tiny bit of repositionable glue for the trial positioning but it takes time to dry before you tack it down or it acts as permanent adhesive. Also, I have tried holding bigger things down with magnets using a metal base under the card.
Having macular degeneration also I keep losing small clear stamps. Getting a stamp all positioned and inked in the Misti, then ploop, it falls off because it wasn't sticky enough! Or not seeing the stray embossing powder until it's been heated. Or seeing the stray powder and then brushing off too much of the image by mistake. And ditto on most of what's been posted. Lol.

I know this is about common errors, but I had a totally new oops today that I had to share! My DH and I were playing around with inks this afternoon- making some different backgrounds. After we were done, I went upstairs to change to go out and when I walked in front of the mirror, I saw something reddish on my neck. My first thought was “I’m bleeding” even though I had no idea why I would be. I flipped on the light and saw a pink ink drop that had run down my neck a little bit. I think I must have splashed it on myself when I was flicking ink with a paint brush. Though how I got such a big drop to land on my neck and run down without me feeling it, I’ll never know. I should have taken a picture!
