I buy 12 x 12 because I scrap in 12 x 12...that way I can use it as bkgrnd paper for my albums or cut it down for cards, with a little left over for layering
Location: Panama (the country), used to be Florida, but I've got an APO military address so like USA shipping

8.5x11 is easier for me to store than 12x12. Plus too, I think you get a better deal and it is easier to just cut in half. I'm one of those cheap people who basically make a card front and then glue it on a piece of vanilla paper. That way I get to save more of my CS for other stampin projects and still have lots left over for scraps!

I buy 8.5 x 11 in single color packs, and occassionally buy 12 x 12 in color family packs. I am getting away from 12 x 12 scrapping and mostly doiing 6 x 6, with a few 8.5 x 11 albums. And of course tons of mini albums.
I buy 12x12 in color families for scrapbooking. I have only boughten 3 packs so far. I buy a lot more 8 1/2x11 for making cards. I usually just use one sheet of 12x12 as the base for my pages, then use the other size for the layers and accents.
Well I used to do 12 x 12 for scrapbooks and 8 1/2 x 11 for cards. Then there was this deal at the craftstore near me with 12 x 12 paper being 25 sheets for $2.99 and I couldn't resist. So now I've been cutting the cardstock down which leaves me with some for matting which is pretty nice. Only thing I don't like is that sometimes I get tired of cutting but that happens with the 8 1/2 x 11 too.
Most of the time I buy 8 1/2 x 11. I'm just starting to scrapbook and most of the pages I have made were 8 1/2 by 11 or smaller. If I start doing more scrapbooking, I may purchase the 12 x 12 sheets.
I always use 8.5 x 11 (called A4 in the UK). We have only recently seen a boom in sales of 12 x 12's here, but I will certainly be investing in some soon.
8 1/2 x 11......I want to start scrapping but so far it's just card making for me! You can make two cards with the 8 1/2 x 11 and can still only make two cards with the 12 x 12.
i buy the 81/2 x 11 by habit and laziness because it's easier to cut into 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 . but...after reading some posts by you girls i may buy both for layering and extra scrap..makes sense.
