I have to admit it's been awhile since I've followed all that's going on in Splitcoast. I recently have made some shaker cards and added sequins and super tiny microbeads, but what are the trends going on these days? Folds? inks? die cuts? Clean and Simple or more layering? Vintage? Anything newer going on? I seem to be stuck in what I know already but am interested in seeing what the newest trend seems to be. Is it color, is it designer papers? Just wondering what's going on these days!
Seems to me it's watercoloring. With either watercolor pencils or water based inksor powders like colorburst. Either with the stamp lines showing or not. A lot of people are playing with coloring books, sometimes cutting images to use on cards.
In dies I would venture to say quilt dies...I know I love them! Stitched and pierced are going strong. In fact now, a gazillion dies have stitched elements to them.
Sentiments that look handwritten are holding strong whether in stamps or dies.
Otherwise it's everything as usual...CAS, layers, folds, heat and dry embossing, sequins, twine, sparkle. Humor is always enjoyed.
I always say it's whatever you want to do and enjoy. People who get the cards have no idea what is trending in the industry. Take a look at the tutorials. Maybe you will see something new to you!
Oldies but goodies are coming back, too. Masking, stencils, sponged backgrounds, etc. If you did it 15 years ago, do it again. Motifs are mason jars, fruits particularly pineapples, flamingos. Gold is still big, too.

Stamps with matching dies eg: Lawn Fawn, Mama Elephant etc. etc. - so you can create your own little scenes instead of just stamping one image and colouring that. More layered image stamping eg: you stamp 4 images to create a rose and matching leaves using several different tones of ink (Stampin' Up & Altenew are two brands that spring to mind). Shaker cards are very popular & people fill the shaker part with beads and sequins. And I see alot of cardmakers using vellum on their cards.
I love vellum and have several packs stashed in my hoard. Sequins are new for me. I bought some at a thrift store and can't seem to make them look right on my cards, but love them on other cards.
Watercoloring with distress inks is also new for me and I'm having so much fun with them.
The flamingo craze = not a favorite. Is it a southern thing? Here in the north we are still getting snow in May, so that may be why the pink bird is not grabbing me. I have jumped on the watercoloring craze for certain. Zig's water color pens are a favorite now and Tim Holtz' crayons.
Mixed Media & watercoloring, (which I love) gold is still in, thread/twine, matching dies and stamps, multi-layer stamps, shaker cards, glitz, glitter, embossed, foiled, distressed, vintage (in new looks). You name it, it is happening. Hard to focus on any one technique and not want to purchase all the elements to try!!!

You haven't mentioned the trend of PINEAPPLES yet. There are stamp sets out there, and the latest adult coloring book I bought featured over a dozen different pineapple designs. When we were in Williamsburg, we were told that the pineapple was a sign of hospitality and used on signs for peoples' home and inns. And they are so darned cute and fun to color!
Doodling (coloring book look), calligraphy, cactus/succulents, and flamingos.
I'm amazed at all the Flamingos. Wonder why them. At the Expo recently every company had a set with them and I see SU does too in the new catalog. Not sure it's a trend I'm in love with.
However, COPPER is a trend this year and it is one that I definitely love!
Cutesy animals with large rounded bodies
Cutesy kiddos with enormous heads
Flamingos (ugh!)
Crazy birds (interesting at first, now past-sell date)
Trends that I'm liking:
Watercolors, using different products - love all of them!
Large florals - love, though not my style
Matching stamps and dies
Textured paper - favorite is Woodgrain
Didn't realize copper is having a come-back. That's good news because I have lots of copper products and love using them.

I need ideas for the Tim Holtz crayons; off to check out your gallery for some inspiration!! ;)

Flamingos and pineapples - not my gig; but glad they are for others.
One of the latest trends is making paper flowers. I have tried Spellbinders and Sizzix flower dies, but my favorites are Heartfelt Creation dies. They have stamps that match , are very easy to make and look fabulous
Here is a link to the Youtube videos on how to make them
I have also seen a lot of pineapples and palm trees this year...as well as camping themed stamps/dies. Lots of tents. Cutesy rounded critters, some of which I like. I don't know that it is a trend but I am loving the grumbling stamps and dies that Taylored Expressions is doing. There are several sets now, and I just giggle and smile when using them. Too fun!
I'm really enjoying the watercolored phase of things...and all the fun ways of doing that. Wish I could afford Zig brushes, but not right now!

I had noticed about the flamingos too but doesn't really do much for me (being an Aussie I don't know much about them other than they are pink!). I had also noticed the pineapple thing as there were pineapple Christmas decorations in my local Target store which I thought was very odd. Us Aussies don't have pineapple as part of our traditional Christmas fare - well, not my generation of 50 and over. And this year, I have seen pineapples for homewares/crafting everywhere. I guess different things appeal to different people. Foxes seem to have taken over from owls as the on-trend animal & have seen foxes in lots of brands of stamp sets.
I am seeing quite a bit of burlap used too which I really like as I am a very tactile person.
We don't have flamingoes here either - but I like them and think they're great fun. I spent about 3 years trying to find a flamingo stamp that was just the one I wanted - I guess now they'll be all over the place. But I have one I'm happy with it, and that will be enough for me.
Foiling is big. So is watercolouring. I just did a 50th anniversary card and pulled out my SU watercolor crayons. It felt great to use them again. As Lutheran said anything old is new again. Vellum has made a comeback which is nice to see. And flowers, paper flowers, stamped flowers, diecut and punched they all seem to be hot.
You know, in an effort to clean up and move out old stuff in my craft room, especially items that are large, I gave away my paper crimper about 2 mos. ago, and now I see videos using it! Can't win, although I will say that I never really loved the look, I have kept a wavy one, because I used it once for an ocean look, and it worked great. Now they will invent an embossing folder with that look, maybe.
I just see a lot of die cutting lately, and I love them- they also store in a teeny area, but can't afford a lot, so I have to be really picky on my purchases.

I sure don't understand the flamingo rage! I started noticing them since this thread! Nope not getting on that band wagon. Any trend I don't like saves me money though so that's good!

Maybe they are popular with people going down memory lane. In the 50's Pink Flamingos were popular lawn decorations and some of the flamingos were life size. Rarely did people only have one flamingo in their yard , they had a flock of them to out do their neighbor's flamingo display lol
The Pink Flamingos were right up there with the gray felt poodle skirts

The MISTI is for double stamping, ombre stamping, multiple step stamp sets and multiple copies of the same card/project. Really anything for perfect placement. It is an amazing tool!
