I don't have a microwave so do it on the stove and it works fine.

Suzy

Peanut Butter & Marshmallow Squares

2 pkg. butterscotch chips, or peanut butter chips
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter or margarine
4 cups miniature marshmallows

Place the first 3 ingredients into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for
1-1/2 minutes, then stir. Microwave for an additional 1-1/2 minutes.
Continue at 30 second intervals until melted stirring in between each
setting. Let cool a couple of minutes and add 4 cups marshmallows
and stir well. Pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan and spread evenly. Let cool
completely, then cut into squares.
This sounds really good! I'll have to add it to my list when I start my baking/candy making! ;) Thanks for sharing!

Thanks to all who contributed the recipes and ideas. I had to wait to print out the megalist because dh was still sleeping. I can't believe all the wonderful enticements to indulge. But then if you make them for someone else your little sneaks don't have any calories, right?

How about a gift of chef's aprons (you can buy them for a couple of dollars at A. C. Moore (which have online coupons you can sign up for) with a cheap set of measuring spoons and cups? You could let them decorate the aprons themselves or just print their names on them with fabric markers. Print off a simple recipe and give them a coupon good for an afternoon of baking with you. My kids always loved cooking with me when they were that age.

As for the newborn, what about a simple homemade "My first Christmas" ornament?

Hope this helps!

I love to make peppermint bark at Christmas - it looks so festive on cookie and candy platters. I found the below candy and want to duplicate it:

So I did a search and found this recipe that I will try:
http://rgbdream.com/2007/01/11/make-...ppermint-bark/

These are really cute too - put two tiny candy canes together back to back to form a heart, then pour the melted bark in the center:

I am so thrilled about the ideas I have received from this thread! I have been trying so hard to stay ahead of the game this year! However, the time I have spent reading this thread has interfered a little bit!

Wow lots of great ideas so I am subscribing.

I am doing Christmas cards and looking into doing other goodies this year since money is tight. Love the pretzel & cocoa ideas too.

In preparation for the holidays I am trying a few new recipes. I am having my family and co-workers taste test them. My co-workers are very excited to be taste testing. : ) If the goodies go over well, they will be part of my food Christmas gifts. I tried the microwave peanut brittle and peppermint bark found on SCS. Wonderful. Especially the peanut brittle. It was very easy. I also made Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) Chocolate Truffles. Excellent & easy. I didn't use the Grand Marnier, which was optional.

My family will try them tonight and co-workers tomorrow. I will let you know what the winners are with them.

In the next few weeks I plan on trying other recipes from this thread.

Finally made it through this thread! Wow, awesome ideas.

Has anyone tried the pretzel rings with a Reese's PB cup in the center?

No, but I bet it's fabulous!

I haven't been able to read the whole thread, even though I have spent quite a bit of time at it. I have copied 12 pages of recipes, too!

I made them with the regular kisses, but used Reese's Pieces instead of m&ms. Yummy!

Did you know that the large pretzel rods fit very nicely in SU! large stamp and supply boxes? I give mine in those. My DD (age 5) loves to decide what to roll the chocolate pretzels in and who gets which. Neighbors with kids get ones rolled in colorful candies, old folks usually get the ones rolled in nuts or something...... OF course we make bands to go around the boxes....

Suzy_H was compiling a document with them all. Not sure what page it is one, you could probably do a search of her posts or just start reading through this one- it's worth it anyway- and you'll find it soon enough

Hey girls,
Have an idea. I have bought some muffin tins at the dollar store and plan on filling each space with different goodies, then put it in a cellophene bag with a pretty ribbon. Of course adding a stamped tag.
What cha think?

Hmmm...you sparked my curiosity...what will you be making to put in each muffin spot?
Did you get the 12 or 6 muffin tins?

I got the 6 muffin tins. For the goodies....I was thinking Christmas Eve Pecans(very easy), maybe the microwave peanut brittle someone mentioned earlier, those pretzel/rolo things, hard candy, peppermint bark, and I am still thinking....

So would ya'll(notice my Southern accent:p )put those paper cupcake liners in the muffin tins or leave them plain?

I would if you don't 'wrap' the food items, otherwise they might stick to the tins.

Christmas Eve Pecans is a very easy recipe that gives the pecans a sugar/cinnamon coating. I will dig out the recipe to give you exact measurements. Once you make them...everyone will want them every year! And did I mention that they are easy?:p

What about stamped pillow cases? I did those one year for my boys for Christmas. They were little and I did construction themed. Not necessarily "toys" but still fun.

One year when we were broke I bought used kids cookbooks (at a used bookstore...they still looked new) and gave it along with some cooking items to my nieces/nephews.

I've also done cookie "pizza" kits. Make a huge cookie and prebake it. Put it in a pizza box and include a tube of frosting and some toppings for them to "top" their pizza with.

If all else fails, go check out the nearest dollar store.

Default Christmas Recipes and Ideas file updated as of 11-16

Here's the updated list as of today (11-16). I've decided this year I may take all of these recipes and ideas, put them all in one little cutsie book and give them out as presents. What do you guys think?

Thanks sooo much for the updated list! I love the idea of putting these recipes in a little book. Lol, you will save the time on typing them. I gave out a few 6X6 recipe books last year, and I plan on giving out two more this year, as they were such a big hit with my family. (I had some jelous women!) I have done countless recipe swaps with paper crafts magazine over the past few years and have 7 or 8 of my own books. I only keep the pages that I know the recipe sounds good. The rest goes in to a pile that my aunt, then other stamp/scrap friends can take from. A lot of the pages are soooo cute and I hate to get rid of, but, hey, I have a million and I don't like peppers or ketchup or... lol

Oh Billie don't thank me, I only updated the list that was posted on page 12. As long as one of use comes up every few pages or so and updates it it's not so big of a task. Really it's a group effort, keep posting the ideas and recipes!!

HOLY COW!!! This is 41 pages long. I can't wait to take the time to look thru everything. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

For Thanksgiving I made the oreo truffles for the first time (my husband is the only one who's tried them yet, and I had to hide the container so he wouldn't eat the rest. I also made the pretzal rounds with the m&m. I saw them at the store and couldn't resist! And hey I used the rest of the pretzals in my chex mix! I think I'm ready...Bring on Thanksgiving!

I have word viewer installed on my computer, but I can't seem to open this document. I get a message that it cannot be opened because it was sent as an attachment. Am I the only one having problems accessing this? I'd sure love to see it. I can open pdf documents, but this one is shown as an attachment.php
Thanks for all your hard work Michelle! I'm hoping to be able to view it!
