I have become obsessed with this set, do a search daily for it on Ebay (one is rarely available). I was bidding on one and was currently winning when I found one at a really good "buy it now" price (and it was even local so I should get it tomorrow) so I went ahead and bought it. Sure enough I was outbid on the other one...it sold for about $8 more than I paid...SCORE! Don't ya love a good deal?
Okay, let me be the first to say it - why would you buy that set on e-bay when it's available in the current SU catalog? Can I ask what you paid for it?

Her perogative I suppose. I've done this when I've found stuff cheaper on ebay too...current or not. ;)
I guess I should add that I was originally hoping to get this used because I was not sure how much I would really use the set. I could not ask to buy it here and I didn't have anything to "trade" in order to get it...getting it on Ebay cheaper was my main goal, the fact that it turned out to be brand new was just an added bonus!
They can get it MUCH faster than going through a demo.
Thye can save sales tax.
If you are into unmounted you can get the shipper to send you just the rubber allowing you to save $4-5 on shipping.
You don't have a demo.
You don't want a demo--some do bug a person to make sales all the time.
I have paid more on ebay just so I can get them within 3 days rather than the 2 weeks it generally takes going through a demo.
If you are already buying from that seller, you can combine shipping with your other items.
Ebay allows you to pay with Visa or PayPal--not all demos offer that option.
Yes, but you always take a risk on Ebay. It may not come in the condition it was stated, it may have been misrepresented, the seller might not ship it out in a timely manner, if there is anything wrong with it you can't exchange it for a new one, etc.

I just never thought about it from that angle before - so I learned something today
You can also be taking a risk with a demo. I went to an SU party 2 years ago. I bought over $100 worth of stuff. The demo said my order was backordered. 3 weeks later she moved out of the country. SU did not make good on it.

Another thing you do NOT get from e-bay is someone to return your stamp set through should you have problems with it :( If the rubber starts peeling from the foam or cracks, you have no one to go to bat for you with SU..... You are stuck with a defective item. THEN you have to go buy another one and let's say you HAPPEN to find another one for $17. Now you've paid $34 for this stamp set, and I'm assuming that doesn't include shipping..... And that's if you don't have any problems with the second! If you purchase it from a demo it would've only been $23.95+$2.40 shipping+$1.78 tax (at 6.75%)= $28.13. So you'd SAVE money going through a demo.
Also, to OP, how much DID you pay for shipping? That should be calculated into your final cost for the set.....
You know i realize that many demos take issue with ebay and all but I LOVE my demo. She is the first to try and save us money. She would rather us keep loving what we do than make 2 extra dollars off of us. She told us that the cropadile is cheaper with a coupon and to check ebay if we cant afford a set we love. To me that is a GREAT demo
Sometimes once you plug in the shipping some people charge it actually comes out to be FAR more expensive then had you gone through a demo
They can get it MUCH faster than going through a demo.
Not neccessarily...
Thye can save sales tax.
Once again inflated shipping can circumvent any real savings
If you are into unmounted you can get the shipper to send you just the rubber allowing you to save $4-5 on shipping.
not everyone is willing to lower shipping cost just because you don't want the wood blocks
You don't have a demo.

agree some do bug people but if that occurs find a new demo
I have paid more on ebay just so I can get them within 3 days rather than the 2 weeks it generally takes going through a demo.
be watchful as not every demo abides by their demo agreement and sells current merchandise on E-bay and may not actually have the product in hand (even if there is a picture of it) and will wait until the auction is closed and orders it
If you are already buying from that seller, you can combine shipping with your other items.
You buy a whole bunch of current items you could loose out on hostess benefits (free stamps and free merchandise)
Ebay allows you to pay with Visa or PayPal--not all demos offer that option.
True
One thing to note that if you buy new items on E-bay you don't have any recourse if there is a problem with the item or the stamp set...just like anything you buy there is a chance for problems...if it arrives and there is a problem you can't just contact your demo and get it corrected and you can't call SU to get it corrected (you have to have the order number on which it was purchased to do an exchange)
A lot of demos will take care of thier customers - not to say that there aren't "bad" demos out there - but by buying from a demo you get customer service...As a demo I treat my customers like gold knowing that they are the ones that keep me in business and always make sure they get goodies with each order - something they don't get if they just buy from the 'bay
now retired sets - you can get good deals on those from the 'bay....

REALLY? Not saying that this COULDN'T happen but by the time it did, I am sure that I would be WAY over that stamp set by then and definitely wouldn't be buying another one...and who knows if that "demo" would still be around to replace it anyway. BTW, the last time I ordered from SU, the shipping was MORE than $2.40 and my tax is higher also. I guess I shouldn't have posted this...clearly it bugs some people that I got a good deal!
Your shipping should be 10% of your order if placed in a workshop or $3.95. I don't think $3.95 is MUCH more that $2.40. And it still would've come out cheaper.
And you cannot guarantee (no one can) that there won't be problems with the set as soon as you get it.
I think it's great that you got a good deal. Every once in a while, the stars and moon align and you can get exactly what you want at the price you want. It doesn't always happen, so take advantage of it when it does!!
I too love my demo, she shows me all kinds of money saving tips. I also buy off of ebay, but trust me, that does not cut into my SU! spending!
I think everybody knows it's buyer beware on the 'bay, and that's for anything you purchase. I'd like to think the OP knows this and is still happy with her win.

I too love Ebay.......and Voila is a set I have considered there. I decided to go the WishRAK route because I too was unsure how much I would use this set.

would love to see what you create! i really like the set as well but don't know it i would use it that much. the set they came out with to go with it is too cute!
MTgal's reasons are all the reasons I love ebay too! But I also like my demo. To the OP, I'm glad you got a good deal!
My dream come true would be that some day Stampin' Up will become a 'normal' company instead of a direct-sales company (I know that's never going to happen - just dreaming here). Then I could buy directly from them without becoming or going through a demo.

That is part of my reason for not buying much of their stuff Demos come and go and trying to find a new one is crazy I have gone to the site emailed, called people in my area with no response. So I just gave up. There are a lot of other companies to buy from that make it so much more "buyer friendly".
I do believe that SU will direct you to a local demo in your area for purchases. Congrats on a great deal!! I picked up all three sizes of the SU Ribbon Keepers, brand new, at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago for $3 total...I too love a deal!
Just want to let you know I am H A P P Y for you! You found a deal and went for it! I do the same thing. If I can find what I am looking for on ebay, and it is cheaper including shipping, why not.....Go For It!
