Default Is there such a thing as an ugly card?

I've been going through the gallery and just uploaded my first cards myself. All of the comments are always so positive. Has anyone ever been tempted to leave a comment on how ugly a card is? Like, why did you use those colors? Ick.

Granted, I haven't seen any cards in the gallery that I would say that about...but I have made some that I would!

Yes I do think there is such a thing as an ugly card, but I would only say so to my closest stamping friends (who would say the same to me), and even then not in the SCS gallery. There is a card so hideous in my gallery that my friend said she almost typed "what were you thinking?" but chickened out for fear of SCS backlash! ;) I wouldn't leave anything less than a "fantastic" (or similar) on a SCS card, unless the creator had specifically asked for both positive and negative feedback - and even then I'd try to say something positive, too.

I must admit, there are ugly cards--I know cause I've made some! But I would never leave a negative comment on someone's work. I belieave that although there are ugly cards, there is also something wonderful about every card. I think when you look for the good, you find it, and when you do, you should leave a comment that encourages that good and wonderful spark of creativity. I have been so encougaged by some of the comments I have recieved, but I know I would be crushed if anyone left an "Ugh@!" remark!

sra-nelson, you have nothing to worry about. There will be no ugly comments in your gallery. Your cards are very pretty!

Yup, I have some doozies in my gallery ( I think we all do!). However, I would never leave a negative comment, I know it would hurt my feelings if someone did to me, so I wouldn't do that to someone else.

Funny you should ask this question! There was a thread a couple of weeks ago that was quite popular (and had some dazzling cards shown, too!) Check it out: Ugly Card Thread . If you have some time, it's good for a chuckle!

What is ugly to some, may be beautiful to another.

Isn't that how people are too?

I was on another website, looking at gallery cards, and someone posted "Wow, could your stamping be any more uneven?". I thought that was seriously harsh!

Ummm...if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all...wow that is mean. After reading this quote I just typed just a second ago I have to add that this should not make anyone think that if you don't have any comments on your card it does not by any means mean that it is not pretty. I kick myself all the time for looking at a card that is pretty and then hurrying off before leaving a comment, bad habit.

And what is beautiful to one person might be hideous to another.

Ya know once I saw someone's scrapbook had a mis-spelling and I almost wrote that but then didn't want to hurt their feelings. And I certainly am not perfect. I don't often leave long winded posts but they are always positive.

Yes, I do sometimes feel that others' creations aren't particularly lovely. Perhaps I should use the term "breathtaking"?

Thanks for the link to the Ugly Card thread. I'm cracking up! And the comments on the very first card made me laugh until I cried. Definitely needed some humor today...

On one of my digipages, I had a typo...one of you wonderful ladies posted a very nice comment, and then PM'd me that she found en error...I thought it was afully sweet that she didn't point it out in her comment.
I would never post a negative comment unless someone specifically asked for it, as I know I would be hurt if some one did it to me...you know, the whole Golden Rule thing...treat others as you wish to be treated. Also my great grandmother used to say "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"

I like to go in the gallery now and then and look for cards with little or no comments and find something good to comment on...there's a lot of great stuff out there, and it isn't always recognized...now off to read the ugly card thread...

The only time I EVER leave criticism is if someone asks for it like: I don't know what's wrong with this card, can you help me? And then, the advice is always tempered with kindness. On cards where the overall effect is less than appealing, there's almost always some component that is worthy of encouragement. Of course, when my sister and I stamp together, we are blantantly and overtly honest about our disaters, LOL!

yes I make them! But I have the sense to remove them once I have to question "what was I thinking?"
