The hints that there are financial problems are strictly rumors. In fact, Shelli just told those on the vacation they had one of the best quarters ever and she has stated a number of times of late that financially the company is just fine and the changes are for all sorts of reasons. I'm sure part of them are to REMAIN stable and then most of them have to do with trying to make it more even business wise (titles and stuff like that) in each market.
I don't think SU would be expanding into other countries if they were in financial trouble. It makes sense to me that they are standardizing their business practices across all of their markets.
Their financials are their business, but the changes being made are probably why this was even brought up here in previous posts.
My main thought is are they going to make SU a company whose price point does not compare to value for money from their competitors.
For example if I choose to buy from another u.s. company what am I getting for my money in a stamp set? SU great company but is one of of a number with great stamps. I just wonder what is the tipping point when deciding who should get your money. I am just musing based on the prices I see. I would like to hear the Canadian Demos opinions, as they were not shy in the past and perhaps put another point of view access.
As a former demo and just back as a customer, I will need a pretty big reason to stick with one company. I want to branch out a little so it doesn't make sense to stay in one place.
All right, I'm going to take this thread back to the original topic. I was one of the posters that said "meh" when I saw the in colors on line. My demo just dropped off a package of cardstock and my catalog and I have to say that the colors are quite a bit different than I expected. The light green is nothing like the in color green that just retired, it's a lot like the old Sage Shadow that I used to love, only lighter and brighter. The Dijon is a yellower More Mustard, and I probably won't use that much. The Taupe is a darker version of Sahara Sand, it's almost gray. The watermelon color is a lot oranger than the pink that just retired, in fact it's not really pink at all, it's more of a coral. And the bright green is gorgeous, very different from any green from SU that I know about.
Hopefully I'll get time to look the catalog over later!

That's good to hear, as I see cards on Pinterest using the new colours I am slowly being drawn in haha. I think I will be interested in the mint and watermelon, possibly the other green and taupe. If Mint is similar to Sage Shadow, I will pair them together because I also love that retired colour and have some of it.
Stampin' Up hasn't said anything about the size. I'm sure they had to take out the Blendabilities at the last minute, so that would remove pages as well as samples throughout.

I confess, I was right along with you originally and I'm also coming around to loving all the new colors. That green.....swoon!
As someone mentioned about the size of the catty this year, I didn't notice it was smaller, but someone did compare page numbers and it is smaller. One change someone else noted was the blendabilities were removed. Also I think there are less pages with "you can do it" in it- which I was glad, I think this catty is more stream lined. Also, the punches, are stacked on top of each other- such as the circles, scalloped- saving space!!! I loved that idea when I saw it! Very smart! I'm not gonna count products, but I think we are still close to what we had before. I think the new catty is better organized and flows better. Can't wait till everyone can see it in person!!!
Got my catty on Sunday. My demo said there are 25 fewer stamps sets this year. But we counted at least 7 "thank you" sets. How many do we need???? There are a few sets that are over $35 which is a lot of money. I do like the In Colors, although Mint Macaron isn't that far off from the old Sage Shadow. I find it interesting that there are a few pages of stamps labeled "watercolor" but S.U. no longer sells the Watercolor Wonder crayons or pencils. Guess they assume we will use reinkers. There are 2 pages of Christmas stamps and I hope S.U. puts out a holiday mini with more. Cute 6x6 DSP packs.

I watercolor all the time with either ink from the ink pad lids or by scribbling markers onto a piece of plastic. I either just dip a wet brush in or spritz a teeny bit of water on.

I was a bit turned of with the excessive "you can do it" sections all over the current catalog. I thought, so this is what the current market is? Sigh! So I'm with you on being excited about the new one.
I love the new Happy Birthday Everyone Hostess! I don't want to wait to get it, I would rather just buy it :( Can't wait to see the new catalog, wish I had a link to see it :(

I have my hardy copy since last week Wednesday (gotta love my SU Demo)
But for those that don't have their catty's yet, the link was posted in this thread, see post 187
I liked the in color card stock but wasn't crazy about the inks. The only pink in colour I liked was the mint macaroon, which reminds me a lot of sage shadow
Thank you!! I hope no one got in trouble for this. I know we customers are anxious, but there's no need for anyone to defy SU's request to keep it under wraps until it's time for the official reveal.
Unfortunately there are both demos who don't care about SU policy and share info SU asked be kept confidential AND customers who refuse to be patient and demand info that is supposed to be demo-only.
There is disrespect and entitlement on both sides (although I believe most demos and customers are ethical and respectful).
Honestly, the URL isn't that different from any of the other links for any of the other catalogs. One tech savvy customer plus about ten minutes of time and you could probably infer the link. If SU doesn't want the catalog link released early, they need to not publish their catalog to the web until they want it to be live.
It's not hard to publish content to a website and make it private. Just password protecting it does wonders. So does adding a small bit of code to the page that will prevent Google from indexing the page.
Sadly, there will always be people who will ignore SU's policy and share, and that is something SU can't really control.
So does anyone know why the catty is so much smaller this year?
I'm not sure, but when I looked through it for the first time in the flesh, it became more apparent that a quite a bit of space was saved on the punch pages where the circles, etc are nested.
My friend also felt there were fewer samples. If that's the case, it doesn't really bother me personally as I tend to head to the SCS gallery or Pinterest for inspiration. It's more visually pleasing to have samples in the catalog but I guess they probably don't need as many as they did in the past. The newer on trend samples are all over the net as soon as someone puts them up.
The cost of the catalogs was reduced a year or two ago and I don't think many Demo's charge customer's for them now so it makes sense to reduce the cost and get them into as many hands as possible.
I've seen the In-Colors - wasn't immediately taken by them, but I expect the Taupe to become a well used color. I didn't love Sage Shadow and the Mint Macaron reminds me of it so I'll have to see. Watermelon Wonder's OK but as other's have said - it's not what I'd call a real Pink - I guess it's "Melon Pink". Dijon & Cucumber are my least favourite, however I see them co-ordinating with colors I already have and think I'll probably get the discount package of C/S & Ink. I've collected & kept them all so far - why stop now? Maybe the Mint & Sage together will inspire me? Maybe Ombre Cards?
Can anyone tell me if the Typeset dsp is in the new catalogue? SU generally retires the papers, but maybe they are keeping this as I don't see it on the ret. list.
My demo also gave me a catalog this week. I love how they added the DSP with the coordinating cardstock (page 142-144). There are some stamp sets that I like but I also agree that the price seems a little high as now there is so much competition.
I always enjoy looking at the new catalog!!
