Ok, I'm confused. How do you use the unmounted stamps? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.
I have some SU stamps that I haven't mounted yet, how would I use them unmounted?

I use acetate sheets, put in a 3 ring binder. I stamp with staz on on one side of the acetate sheet and mount my stamp on the other side so I can see the images in black as I flip through my binder. I don't use ezmount, just See D's cling or Tack it over and over. I put them in zip up binders so if one happens to fall out in transport or whatever I don't lose the stamp.
Breezy, you use an adhesive to cling the rubber to an acrylic block.

Here's my process...
For my new SU stamps - I trim the stamp, then I adhere the clear block label to the back of the stamp on the tacky foam. Then trim the label to fit the stamp. The reason I trim the stamp first is so that I more accurately place the label. (When unmounting sets from the wood, I have found that sometimes if the label comes off the block with a good deal of adhesive, I can place it on the stamp.)
For cling, I am really enjoying the inexpensive See D Cling. It is a clear product, that sticks right to your stamp.
I have tried the following (here's my opinion)
EZ foam - too expensive and quite labour intensive for my taste
Aileen's Tack It - cheap, but a bit messy and leaves a residue on my blocks
A cling product that you put on the block - okay, but I found it a bit cloudy to see through when stamping.
I do have most of my stamps in the CD cases, because I received several free from a local radio station. But, I have found that you can store your stamps on any plastic surface, preferably a firm one that you can cut to size. I have used packaging materials and stiff transparency film. Then I place this in a zip lock bag or pouch so that I don't lose any pieces and can see the set.
I also inventory my stamps two ways - I copy the image and description from the net of each stamp set I own and paste it into a word document, I then print the pages, and store them in a duotang. I use this as a reference when I looking for an idea or for a stamp from a particular set. I also print the picture & description in a size that is appropriate for the size of "case" I am storing my set in. That way I can see more clearly what all the images are in the set (especially sayings) and if I loan it out at an event, I can see that all the pieces come back.
I store my sets in the following groupings: sayings, flowers, christmas, backgrounds, summer and other.
For transport, I have some cloth zipper pouches that I use to keep the stamps sets I am taking with me all together. Ikea had a small zipper pouch storage system for CDs awhile back, it fits about 10 sets.
Hope my rambling on helps.

Thanks Anna, I think I need a trip to Hobby Lobby. I have no space to store anything right now, so unmounting may be the way to go for me.

I store my um stamps in a photo storage box on transparancies cut in half. I glue the transparacy to a piece of white cardstock and stick the cling and un stamps on there. I also use Tack it over on them if they do not have cling already. I made dividers with chipboard and pattern paper to separate the stamps into catagories. This is how I store my $1 M's also. I just integrate them into my catagories. For sheets of stamps from manufactors that are already on transparancies I just glue the white cardstock on the back and place them in the categories. I would be happy to post a pic if anyone is interested. This works for me because I have to see what I have to use it. I also store my acrylic blocks in the box as well.

So I posted about the Store More Stamps system by little monkeys as a suggestion for storage. I had not yet purchased the system. Well now I have.
I will use it for my clear stamps and those few stamps that I have purchased from stamp conventions unmounted. I love my wood mounted stamps so I won't be going completly unmounted, but I think this system will work really well.
I also keep toying with the idea of unmounting my wheels. Honestly I think that they will get more use unmounted. Getting a straight even impression has always been difficult for me with wheels. Never really bought them until last year when one in a SU! mini was to irrestiable for me and I had to have it, but have yet to use the wheel.
Lot's of good ideas in this thread. Thanks for asking the question!

Breezy,
There are lots of suggestions of where throughout this thread. I purchased some things form Little Monkeys last night and can't wait to reorganize my stamps.

Thanks! I might have to make a trip to Michael's then. My local stores of Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's didn't have any.
But I did buy a Cuttlebug to play with.

Here are the pictures of how I store my um stamps. Let me know if you have any questions. I used a photo box from T's and chipboard and PP from my stash. The tabs on top are made with a bosskut die.

Janor,
Thanks for posting the pix. You did a great job and I really like the way you tabbed the different categories. It looks really pretty with the paper coordinating with your box. Looks so nice and organized!
I'm going to something similar but I'm not sure just how I'm going to break down the categories.

That system Janor looks great - YOu just use plain white cardstock that you like buy on ebay and then transparency sheets from like Office max? Do you use 2 sided red liner tape or how do you tape them down? I've been using hundreds of cd cases but my sets get buried real easy so you system looks better than mine except i have probably 400 sets i have to do all together i got probably half that done.

Wendalyn,
I bought a ream of plain white cardstock at Office Depot ages ago to make some invitations and that what I used here. I bought transparencies at Office Depot as well (their brand) and glued them to the white cardstock with a glue stick. Has worked great so far. I need to see my stuff to use it or I forget I have it. Now if I need something for a birthday card, I just look through that category. I use the stamps more now that I split them up by theme.

You can also use glossy cardstock - even easier! I was thinking another inexpensive thing to use would be chipboard that you can buy on ebay you can get like 50 8 x 11 sheets for $5 or something. Maybe more sturder? I am gonna try doing something like this i've got alot of money sunk into ez mount and cd cases and those dang cd cases arn't cheap when you need that many. Thanks for the great idea.

Janor, I love the way your system looks! Do you still have room to put the lid on the photo box or do you just keep it open?
Thanks, Zauna

This seems to be the easiest, I think I'll try this one. Also include some baseball card pages for smaller stamps and diecuts. (great idea on the diecuts!)

Here is the update (finally!) I promised about the StorRite Portfolio that TAC is now carrying...I guess you can buy extra sheets to fill it but it comes originally with only 3. For that, it seems a bit pricey but that's just my take. The mini one might be neat for traveling...
Product Information
Storage Portfolio keeps your stamps safe, clean and organized. It is water and dust resistant. Everything you need to protect your ez-mount backed dies and also use less storage space. Includes Storage Portfolio 10 1/2" x 11 1/2", 3 Plastic Storage Sheets and three Indexing Card Inserts. Great for travel as well! Also comes in a Mini Size that will fit in your purse and fun for traveling as well.

The cardstock is 51/2 by 7 inches. I just cut an inch off the long side of the cardstock and then cut in half. I just leave the box open because the cards are too tall to fit in the box. But you could just make the cards the same height as the box and that way the lid would fit on top. I left it tall because more stamps fit and I like the look.

This is really a super job! I have a ton of CD cases and have always liked that system but this makes me pause for a moment to consider switching! And, TAC has a special the next two months with some "organizing" stamp sets that would work great with this system you set up. Thanks for the photos and descriptions...

Can anyone tell me if the 8-1/2 x 11 pages for the unmounted stamps are available at Michaels or Hobby Lobby? I live 60 miles away and wondered if I should just order online or wait until I get a chance to go shopping to see if they are there? Thought I would see if anyone new off hand.
They are shown on this website with tabs on the sides..but I don't need the tabs, the plain sheet ones would be just fine.
http://www.wilde-ideas.com/Vndrs/Sun...anel.html#2265
Thanks for any help.

I found 2 video cassette storage units in the trash. They each have 3 drawers and hold a total of 36 video cassettes per unit. I found a company that sells library supplies. Vernon Library supplies sells hubless video cassette cases with four complete side.
The nice thing about using video cassette storage is that you can find a lot of storage units at thrift stores and garage sales since most people are switching to DVD. Also you can leave some sets mounted and they'll fit in the cases. You can also stamp index sheets and insert in the sleeves. Plus I can get cases to fill with embellishments and other stuff that is too bulky for cd cases.
If you prefer there are ready made solutions and like the VHS idea check this out Stampibrary at blockhead stamps
Hope this helps

Does the cardstock keep the page ridged/stiff enough?
I'm still trying to decide how to store mine when I get them unmounted.

I just ordered some white cs from PTI. My plan is to stamp then laminate the stamped paper then store in photo boxes. I will let you know how it works out for me. I am finding the cd cases to be a pain in the ***!

Is their cardstock stiffer? I'm beginning to wonder if maybe photo boxes might be better.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am convinced. The thought of having more space is very appealing. My stamping room is so full I don't have room to actually stamp in there. I have been bringing my stuff to the kitchen table. Very frustrating....since I actually have my own room!

Silly question... do those of you that use 3 ring binders put the stamps on both sides of the page (front and back) or just one side?

I would only use one side. One of the reasons I quit using binders is b/c I had several stamps get knocked off. Having stamps on both sides can cause this to happen even more since they wouldn't line up and would rub against each other. I even started to put dividers btwn the binder pages, but that just added another level of hassle and I couldn't take it anymore.
