Default Stamping on onesies?

I saw a darling picture on a blog where craft ink was stamped on onesies, then heat set with an iron.
Has anyone done that?
What are the specifics? Can it then be washed and dried?

I stamped my logo for selling my cards on a white T-shirt. I just used stazon ink and heat set it. I have washed it several times and it still looks the same...no fading or anything.

Thanks for the great advice. I will have to practice with Stazon!

Do a search for fabric stamping- you'll come across tons of threads. Basically, you want to use fabric ink then heat set. Try Palette or Fabrico, those work really well. Heat set with an iron. Then you're done!

I stamped some onesies for a few baby showers. I have pics of my sis-in-law's on my blog.

Its very easy. I also did some research by searching threads first, but I used all Palette ink and also some fabric markers (found at craft store) to color in some images. It is best to wash and dry (without fabric softener) the onesies first, so they get the shrinking done. Leave the softener out so the fabric stays sturdy. I then cut a piece of thicker chipboard to place inside the shirt when i stamped on it so no ink would go thru to the other side. I let it lay out and air dry for a few minutes, while I finished stamping all onesies. Then used the iron to heat set. I also just took a piece of cotton (scrap from sewing supplies) and set it over the onesie and image while I heat set with the iron, just so you don't accidentally get any burn marks or any ink on your iron.

I really liked the ones I did where I took mini stamps and stamped all over the onesie, they came out cute.

good luck, its fun!

Following directions that I found online, I used black stazon to stamp on a onesie. It faded A LOT in the wash. I know stazon isn't really intended to be used on fabric, but I was following someone else's instructions, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was not happy with the result.

Here's a tut from my blog that describes stamping on fabric with a fabric paint:
http://paperfriendly.blogspot.com/20...t-easy_13.html

To use stamping ink (it must be a permanent die ink that requires heat setting): wash and dry the fabric (onesie) without any softener in either the washer or dryer (softeners coat the fabric and prevent the pint or ink from pentrating the fibers); press freezer paper to the inside of the shirt. Pat the stamp on the pad as you would if you were stamping on paper. Stamp, and whn dry heat set the ink. Why wash before you stamp...all fabric and clothing is coated with a sizing which prevents even pentration of ink, paints, glue and even iron-on fusibles into the fibers.

My favorite inks for fabric are either Clearsnap Ancient Page or Clearnsap Crafters. It is my understanding that Stazon is not recomend for fabric.

To color images, you must use markers labeled, 'suitable for fabric.' My favorites are Zig Textile Markers. Do not remove the freezer paper after stamping; the paper will hold the fabric taunt when coloring with a marker. After the marker is dry, het set and remove the freezer paper.

I've been stamping on fabric for about 16 years...great fun and the results are fantastic.
