I am sorry if I didn't use the correct terms or if I left my meaning unlcear. I meant the clear stamps themselves, not the blocks, which was part of what SU researched and rejected as an option due to the image quality issues. My bad. |
Yup, Kristen's group. And, yes, I can see SU going rubber and not clear. They are way too big to use outside manufacturing and they are already set up for rubber. Plus, they are a very technique based company, (which is so cool,) and you can pretty much do anything to rubber and not hurt it! LOL!

Yes I know - I own some, but those aren't stickers you put on yourself... but I guess the stickers must be able to adhere to the acrylic block or something?

The FAQs state that we will not be able to get labels for the old sets. We can keep dreaming. I am in process of unmounting my 200+ sets and new labels would be fantastic.

They are not willing to compromise on the quality of the images. Period.
They told us several times over the past couple years that they would NOT consider going to this option until all the bugs had been worked out to their satisfaction. I'm so thankful they don't just jump in without the research!
I am extremely pleased for those who like unmounted--now you can have both the great images and selection you want, PLUS the quality you have come to expect from Stampin' Up, AND the convenience of being unmounted if you prefer... AND I still get my beloved wood mounts |
How can that be, when all people have been asking for is that the dies be sold without the wood, at a lower price? The wood mount doesn't make the quality of the image.

Yes it would! I am using aleen's tack it over and over rather than ez mount so that I can have the sticker on the back of the rubber... would love to be able to use the cling mount and still have the stickers!

I asked that too and she said that she meant that they were looking at clear polymer but couldn't find a clear polymer that matched the quality of the deeply etched rubber.

Yeah, I should have read through first. But why would they have even wanted to change the manufacturing when they already have what they do? Just don't offer the wood, you know. This is a good change and about time. The demos have been asking for this when I was a demo over ten years ago, and they had been asking for sometime before that too. Just can't believe it's taken this long to realize they could sell the same die. Who knows.;) This may make it a little easier to purchase their images now though.

What a BIG announcement!! I love my wood mounted SU. I do plan to take my two-step stamps off the wood for easier placement. I'm happy to see SU offering the unmounted rubber. I may even order a few unmounted.

For those of you who are unmounting your older SU sets, the labels will peel off the wood mounted sets just fine! In fact, I've had very little trouble resticking them to the foam.
I'm so thrilled SU is going to give us this option up front now!!!

I do this too...I just take a little extra care in putting the label on to match up with the image and then usually trim the rubber more so placement is really easy.
I'd like to know, too, what you're storing your stamps in. It looks like they're in skinny clam shell cases...

Does the label cling to the acrylic block? I don't think I get it. (*I'm stupid, I know...*)

Not in my experience. I am using aleens tack it over and over on top of the labels so they will stick to the acrylic block. That is why I am curious about these labels SU will be offering with the cling - I am thinking they must be different from the labels on the current sets.

From SU:
Do I need to use the labels on my clear-mount stamps?
A: The labels are designed as a tool, and you can use them or not, as it suits your preference. The stamps are designed to cling to your blocks with or without the label.

Yes, they're different labels, and apparently they'll cling. I would guess that this is one of the things that took a while in the 'pulling it all together' stage.
I can't wait to actually see and use these ... I've been trying to decide which set to buy for my pre-order ... hmmm ...

Oh, I know that. I've been using unmounted/acrylic mounted stamps now for several years. Either way, it is (should) be the the same rubber die and it shouldn't that much more difficult to attach the static cling cousion and still die cut the stamp as they've been doing.

So sorry to have dropped out of the discussion... Gray's Anatomy and bed.
Aaaaaaany way, I do use tack it OAO to make the stickers sticky so they will stick to the acrylic block. This also adheres them to the LID of the clamshell boxes, which I cut off (an idea I got here on SCS). I love it bc they are so easy to "page through" since the tab from the closure sticks up. It is so easy to see the stamps with the stickers on them too. I'm tickled that I can soon do this w my SU sets legitly, but I hope I'll sill have a clamshell lid to put them on w the new packaging.
For the record... I think Gina K is a genious!

Could be the new labels are made out of the same stuff as the index labels on the back of the old Inque Boutique stamps - those were red rubber, no cushion and the label on the back made them cling. When you bought a set, you also got an extra piece of the label cling in case some of it already on the stamps was damaged.
Also, the 25% "discount" for unmounted with cling sounds about right - most of the companies that I've seen that charge only 1/2 price on unmounteds are talking truly unmounted - just rubber die with no cushion at all.
I'm excited about this - if it was a set I absolutely couldn't live without, I bought it anyway, but I always felt bad about not using that wood.

As for the "negative" comments, I think the reaction was to the really over the top cheerleading responses we get around here from some of the SU folks who would manage to find a good excuse/defense/justification no matter what SU did. If they reversed themselves tomorrow, the cheerleaders would be explaining why it happened because they are such a superior company somehow- and for some of us it has gotten REALLY old. |
Remember, many of those companies do not provide the cling foam, EZ mount, or cut the stamps for you either. And when they do, the price is considerably more then half price. SU prices are right in the ball park for what they provide.
Oops, Cheryl beat me to the punch on this comment.

Agreed - I tried the vinyl cling on a couple of sets and undid it. The label material that Inque Boutique (may they rest in peace, gah! I miss that company) used for the backs of their stamps sticks much better than the vinyl cling.

A little off topic, but I was wondering how you unmounted yours? I have 200+ sets and the storage is killing me and have been a little apprehensive about un-mounting all of mine. Thank you

'K, I don't know why, lol, but I keep hearing Abba's "Dancing Queen" playing in my head! I may be getting a bit over excited, lol! :-D:-D |
I love that song! My dd was a dancer in high school, and they always used that song at the part of the program where they showed slides of the girls in rehearsal, or close ups.
Whenever it comes on the radio in my car, I turn it up and sing my heart out. Alas, it makes my 19 year old dd cry, remembering the good times and close friendships. So, if she is in the car, I have to turn it off. (Looking for the crying smilie, and can't find it.)

As someone who's been unmounted for a few years now, I have NO worries just GLEE! I take off the foam anyway and use Aleene's Tack-It-Over and Over, so I'm good. I don't use a label on the back of my stamps, I put it on the CD case. And I DO wish they were a little cheaper than they are making them, but because they are die cutting them now, and putting the foam on AND adding a special label, I understand. Even though they are die cut I always trim them even closer. Their rubber is such a nice rubber, that you really don't need foam to make them stamp perfectly!
And if SU! really wanted to see "clear" stamps done correctly, they should have checked out PTI! There is nothing better than their clear stamps...they take dye ink BEAUTIFULLY!
At least they finally listened and are gonna stop MURDERING trees! (Hee, hee!)

I use EZMount on all my rubber stamps, but I stamp the image on the cling side of it before I mount it to the rubber-- so that solved the problem for me. I use StazOn, and have had no problem with it interfering with the clinginess.

From what I gather, the foam will be the same sticky foam, but the the sticker will be made of a new material that will cling to the acrylic blocks. You'll put the sticker directly on the sticky side of the foam.
